1. Safety instructions
1.1. Range of application AUMA globe valve actuators are designed for the operation of valves in the
shipbuilding industry. For other applications, please consult AUMA. The
manufacturer is not liable for any possible damage resulting from use in
other than the designated applications. Such risk lies entirely with the user.
Observance of these operation instructions is considered as part of the
designated use.
1.2. Commissioning
(electrical connection)
During electrical operation, certain parts inevitably carry hazardous volt-
ages. Work on the electrical system or equipment must only be carried out
by a skilled electrician himself or by specially instructed personnel under the
control and supervision of such an electrician and in accordance with the
applicable electrical engineering rules.
1.3. Maintenance The maintenance instructions (refer to page 19) must be observed, other-
wise a safe operation of the actuator is no longer guaranteed.
1.4. Warnings and notes Failure to observe the warnings and notes may lead to serious injuries or
damage. Qualified personnel must be thoroughly familiar with all warnings
and notes in these operation instructions.
Correct transport, proper storage, mounting and installation, as well as
careful commissioning are essential to ensure a trouble-free and safe oper-
ation.
The following references draw special attention to safety-relevant proce-
dures in these operation instructions. Each is marked by the appropriate
pictograph.

correct operation. Non-observance of these notes may lead to consequen-

2. Short description AUMA globe valve actuators type SV 05.1 – SV 07.1. have a modular design.
Motor and gearing are mounted in a common housing and make up a coaxial
unit together with the output drive.
Manual operation is possible without change-over.
The globe valve actuators are driven by an electric motor and controlled by
the separate controls MEC 02.1.
In end position OPEN, the limitation of travel is realised via end position
sensors. In end position CLOSED, the actuator is switched off via torque
seating (excess current measuring) or via end position sensors.

4. Transport and storage .Transport to place of installation in sturdy packing.
.Do not attach ropes or hooks to the handwheel/crank for the purpose of
lifting by hoist.
.If valve actuator is mounted on valve, attach ropes or hooks for the
purpose of lifting by hoist to valve and not to valve actuator.
.Store in a well-ventilated, dry room.
.Protect against floor dampness by storage on a shelf or on a wooden
pallet.
.Cover to protect against dust and dirt.
.Apply suitable corrosion protection agent to uncoated surfaces.
If valve actuators are to be stored for a long time (more than 6 months), the
following points must be observed additionally:
.Prior to storage: Protect uncoated surfaces, in particular the output drive
parts and mounting surface, with long-term corrosion protection agent.
.Check for corrosion approximately every 6 months. If first signs of corro-
sion show, apply new corrosion protection.
5. Packaging Our products are protected by special packaging for the transport ex works.
The packaging consists of environmentally friendly materials which can
easily be separated and recycled.
For the disposal of the packaging material, we recommend recycling and
collection centres.
We use the following packaging materials: wood, cardboard, paper, and PE
foil.

6. Mounting to valve Mounting is most easily done with the valve shaft pointing vertically upward.
But mounting is also possible in any other position. The globe valve actuator
leaves the factory in position CLOSED.
.Prior to mounting, the globe valve actuator must be driven to the end stop
CLOSED by turning the handwheel/crank clockwise.
.Thoroughly degrease mounting faces of valve actuator and valve.
.Place coupling sleeve on to valve shaft and secure (figure 1). Ensure that
dimensions X and Y are observed.
.Apply non-acidic grease at toothing of coupling.
.Adjust multi-turn actuator until alignment of the fixing holes in actuator and
valve mounting flange. If required, shift actuator position by one tooth on
the coupling. If required, turn handwheel/crank slightly in directions OPEN
or CLOSE until holes align to the threads.
.Ensure that the spigot mates uniformly in the recess and that the
mounting faces are in complete contact.
.Fasten actuator with screws (refer to table 2). Tightly fasten screws evenly
crosswise.

7. Manual operation For purposes of setting and commissioning, in case of motor or power
failure, the actuator may be operated manually. Different versions are avail-
able as operation elements, refer to figures 2 to 5.
Manual operation is activated by turning the handwheel/crank. A
change-over is not required.
The handwheel/crank does not rotate during motor operation.
Turning the handwheel/crank during motor operation results
in an extension or reduction of the operating time,
depending on the direction of rotation.

8. Electrical connection Work on the electrical system or equipment must only be
carried out by a skilled electrician himself or by specially
instructed personnel under the control and supervision of
such an electrician and in accordance with the applicable
electrical engineering rules.
AUMA globe valve actuators SV 05.1 – SV 07.1 are operated via the
controls MEC 02.1. These are designed to be mounted separately on a wall.
Suitable, flexible, and screened cables must be used between controls and
actuator. The max. permissible cable length between actuator and controls
is 50 m.
.Check whether type of current, supply voltage, and frequency comply with
motor data (refer to name plate at controls MEC 02.1).
.Remove dust covers, if provided.
The mains connection and the connection between actuator and controls
MEC 02.1 is made by two plug/socket connectors each, with crimp-type
connection.

The terminal plan pertaining to the globe valve actuator is attached to the
handwheel in a weather-proof bag, together with the operation instruc-
tions. In case the terminal plan is not available, it can be obtained from
AUMA (state commission no., refer to name plate) or downloaded directly
from the Internet (www.auma.com).
.Protective earth connection interface is provided and marked according to
DIN 40011.

9. Switch compartment The following sub-assemblies are located within the switch compartment:
.End position detection (refer to page 12)
.Electronic position transmitter (option) (refer to page 15)
.Mechanical position indicator (refer to 16)
The switch compartment must be opened to perform the setting of these
sub-assemblies.
9.1. Switch compartment: open Work on the electrical system or equipment must only be
carried out by a skilled electrician himself or by specially
instructed personnel under the control and supervision of
such an electrician and in accordance with the applicable
electrical engineering rules.
.Remove 4 screws (A) and take off the cover at the switch compartment
(figure 9).
9.2. Switch compartment: close After having worked at the switch compartment:
.Clean sealing faces of housing and cover.
.Check whether O-ring is in good condition.
.Apply a thin film of non-acidic grease to the sealing faces.
.Place cover on switch compartment and fasten screws evenly crosswise.

10. End position detection: check and set
10.1. Clockwise closing: The following description is only valid for “clockwise closing”, i.e. driven shaft
turns counterclockwise to close the valve.
Identification within the terminal plan:
AI M … for “clockwise”
.Switch on the power supply.
End position CLOSED .Move valve to end position CLOSED.
The end position detection is correctly set if the yellow LED is illuminated
and the output contacts (refer to terminal plan) indicate “end position
CLOSED”.
If this is not the case, correct the end position detection as follows:

Now the control disc (02) can be turned for setting:
The switching point (bright illumination of the yellow LED) should be set by
clockwise turning the control disc.
If the LED is only weakly illuminated, the switching point has not yet been
reached.
In case of having turned too far, the yellow LED goes out again.
The control disc should be positioned in such a way that it is situated
midway between the yellow LED lighting up and going out.
.After the setting procedure, hold the control disc in position and tighten
both screws (01).
.Move valve manually away from the end position.
.Check setting by approaching the switching point CLOSED anew.

End position OPEN .Move valve to end position OPEN.
The end position detection is correctly set if the green LED is illuminated
and the output contacts (refer to terminal plan) indicate “end position
OPEN”. If this is not the case, correct the end position detection as
follows:
.Loosen screw (04) (figure 11) and pull off control disc (02), taking care of
parallel key.

.Set indicator disc (03) to required swing angle by turning.
(set approx. 3° – 4° less than the actual swing angle)
.Tighten screw (05).
.Fit control disc (02) while taking care of parallel key and secure with screw
(04).
.Check setting by approaching the switching point OPEN anew.
10.2. Counterclockwise closing: The following description is only valid for “counterclockwise closing”, i.e.
driven shaft turns counterclockwise to close the valve.
Identification within the wiring diagram:
AI B … for “counterclockwise”
.Switch on the power supply.
End position CLOSED .Move valve to end position CLOSED.
The end position detection is correctly set if the green LED is illuminated
and the output contacts (refer to terminal plan) indicate “end position
CLOSED”. If this is not the case, correct the end position detection as
follows:

Now the control disc (02) can be turned for setting.
The switching point (bright illumination of the green LED) should be set by
counterclockwise turning the control disc.
If the LED is only weakly illuminated, the switching point has not yet been

.After the setting procedure, hold the control disc in position and tighten
both screws (01).
.Move valve away from the end position.
.Check setting by approaching the switching point CLOSED anew.
End position OPEN .Move valve to end position OPEN.
The end position detection is correctly set if the yellow LED is illuminated
and the output contacts (refer to terminal plan) indicate “end position
OPEN”. If this is not the case, correct the end position detection as
follows:
.Loosen screw (04) (figure 11) and pull off control disc (02), taking care of
parallel key.

.Set indicator disc (03) to required swing angle by turning.
(set approx. 3 ° – 4 ° less than the actual swing angle).
.Tighten screw (05).
.Fit control disc (02) while taking care of parallel key and secure with screw
(04).
.Check setting by approaching the switching point OPEN anew.

11. Test run
11.1. Direction of rotation: check The direction of rotation of the indicator disc (figure 13) indicates the direc-
tion of rotation of the output drive.
.Move actuator manually to intermediate position or to sufficient distance
from end position.
.Switch on actuator in direction CLOSE and observe the direction of rota-
tion.
If the actuator is equipped with local controls (figure 15), the operation can
be performed using the push buttons (OPEN - STOP - CLOSE).
If the direction of rotation is wrong, switch off immediately.
The identification within the wiring diagram indicates the actual
version:
AI M … for “clockwise”
AI B … for “counterclockwise”.
11.2. End position detection: check
Electrically approach end position CLOSED and end position OPEN and
check seating.
For the setting, refer to page 12, chapter 10.
Torque monitoring If excessive torque occurs in directions OPEN or CLOSE, a watchdog (by
means of current measurement) switches off the actuator. A further move-
ment in this direction is not possible. An operation command in the opposite
direction or reaching the end position in the opposite direction (manually)
releases the operation lock and enables further operation.

12. Electronic position transmitter RWG (option): set
The electronic position transmitter records the valve position and generates
a current signal between 4 and 20 mA, using the position feedback
measured by the potentiometer.
After having mounted the globe valve actuator to the valve, check the setting
as described below:
.Connect voltage to electronic position transmitter.
.Move valve to end position CLOSED.
.Connect measuring device for 4 – 20 mA to customer plug XG2 (refer to
wiring diagram).
The circuit (external load) must be connected (max. load
RB), or the appropriate poles at the terminals (refer to
wiring diagram) must be linked, otherwise no value can be
measured.
.Turn potentiometer (”0”) clockwise to the stop.
.Turn potentiometer (”0”) slightly back from the stop.
.Turn potentiometer “Rmin” clockwise until output current starts to
increase.
.Turn back potentiometer “Rmin.” until a residual current of approx. 4 mA
is reached.
.Move valve to end position OPEN.
.Set potentiometer “Rmax.” to end value 20 mA.
.Approach end position CLOSED anew and check minimum value (4 mA).
If necessary, correct the setting.

13. Mechanical position indicator: set
The mechanical position indication is realised using the white pointer below
the indicator glass of the cover. The pointer setting shows the position
CLOSED or OPEN with respect to the pipeline. With the cover removed, the
symbols OPEN ( ) and CLOSED ( ) on the board show the electri-
cally set end positions.
.Move valve to end position CLOSED.
.Sightly lift and turn pointer so that it points crosswise to the pipeline.
When changing the mounting position of the actuator, the
mechanical position indicator may have to be re-set!

14. Actuator controls MEC 02.1
14.1. Type of seating: set The MEC 02.1 is set in the factory in compliance with the order details. Later
modifications are possible as described below.
.Disconnect controls from the mains. For this, at least dis-
connect plug XG1 from the controls.
.Pay attention to the fact that the capacitors are charged
with high voltages within the DC link.
Even after having disconnected the supply voltage, haz-
ardous high voltages are present at the DC voltage link
during 1 minute.
.This setting must only be changed with prior consent of
the valve manufacturer!
The type of seating in end position CLOSED can be changed using the
switch S1 (figure 21):

15. Fuses .Disconnect controls from the mains. For this, at least dis-
connect plug XG1 from the controls.
.When exchanging the fuses, only fuses with the same val-
ues must be used.
.Pay attention to the fact that the capacitors are charged
with high voltages within the DC link.
Even after having disconnected the supply voltage,
hazardous high voltages are present at the DC voltage link
during 1 minute.

16. Maintenance AUMA globe valve actuators require very little maintenance.
Precondition for reliable service is correct commissioning.
Seals made of elastomers are subject to ageing and must therefore regu-
larly be checked and, if necessary, be exchanged.
It is also very important that the O-rings at the covers are placed correctly
and cable glands fastened firmly to prevent ingress of dirt or water.
We recommend additionally:
.If rarely operated, perform a test run about every 6 months. This ensures
that the device is always ready to operate.
.Approximately six months after commissioning and every year after, check
bolts between multi-turn actuator and valve/gearbox for tightness. If
required, tighten by applying the torques given in table 2, page 7.
17. Lubrication The gear housing is filled with lubricant in the factory. This filling lasts for
several years of service.
The described actuators are high-precision electromechanical devices.
Defective actuators can therefore only be repaired in the factory or in an
authorised workshop.
18. Disposal and recycling
AUMA actuators have an extremely long lifetime. However, they have to be
replaced at one point in time.
The actuators have a modular design and may therefore easily be disas-
sembled, separated, and sorted according to materials, i.e.:

are hazardous to water and must not be released into the environment.
.Arrange for controlled waste disposal of the disassembled material or for
separate recycling according to materials.
.Observe the national regulations for waste disposal.
