Overview
The Galaxy Keyprox is a standard Galaxy MK7 keypad and a proximity
card reader, combined into one housing. This allows dual function
setting/unsetting ability from the one station without the need for a separate
card reader. It is primarily intended for use in situations where a PIN and/or
card are needed to set and unset the intruder alarm system. It is not
intended to be used for door control as it does not contain a door strike
relay. However, limited door functions can be programmed using Links
programming in the Galaxy control panels.
Compatibility
The Galaxy Keyprox is intended for use with the Galaxy 8, 18, 60, 128,
500, 504 and 512 panels. The panels must be fitted with software version
1.18 or later.
Most non encrypted HID* cards and standard ASK cards up to 34 Bit can
be read by the Keyprox. Proprietary card type may not be read properly by
the Keyprox
* Note that some versions of the keypad may not have the HID functionality
enabled.
MAX cards or tags can be read by the Keyprox. However if MAX readers
are also used on the system, then the cards will needs to be programmed
on to two separate users, as they are seen in a different way by the MAX
type readers and the Keyprox.
Mounting
The Keyprox should be mounted on a flat vertical surface in a convenient
location. Separate the back plate from the rest of the keypad by gently
pushing on the two locking clips on the base of the Keyprox with a
screwdriver. Place the back plate on the wall at the desired location and
mark the position of the screw holes. Remove the plate then drill the holes
as required. The back plate can then be screwed to the wall while running
the cable connection through the available opening. Once the back plate
has been secured to the wall, the rest of the Keyprox can be clipped in
place by locating the top lugs first, then pushing the lower clips home,
gently but firmly.

Wiring
The Keyprox must be wired to the RS485 data bus on the Galaxy panel,
maintaining the parallel daisy chain wiring configuration. Only 4
connections are required, +12V, 0V, A and B data. If the Keyprox is the last
module on the A B RS485 data bus, then a 680 ohm end of line resistor
must be fitted across the A and B terminals.
Configuration
The Keyprox is configured onto the Galaxy panel as two separate modules,
a keypad and a MAX reader. Before powering up the Keyprox, the address
must be set using the rotary switch on the back of the PCB. This address
will apply to both the Keypad and the MAX Reader sections. It is the
installer’s responsibility to ensure that the address set is compatible with
the system in use. Not all addresses are acceptable to all Galaxy panels.
Reference to the installation instructions of the Galaxy panel is
recommended.
Once the address has been set and the Keyprox has been powered up, it
must be configured onto the Galaxy system. This is done automatically on
leaving programming mode, or by repowering the system. When configured
correctly, the system will show that two modules have been added, a
keypad and a MAX reader, both with the same address.
Keypad Programming
The keypad side of the Keyprox requires no programming for most
installations. If required, the parameters for the keypad can be altered in
programming menu 58.

Card Programming
In order for the card reader to operate, the unique serial number
programmed into each card to be used must be programmed to a separate
user on the Galaxy panel. This is done by programming the numbers into
the MAX number section of the user, in menu 42, under the desired user.
This can be simplified by using the self-learn procedure described below.
The card held function needs to be programmed here, to allow the card to
set and unset the system. Refer to the relevant sections in the Galaxy
Panel user or installation manuals for full details. (Menu 42 - codes.)
Card Self-Learn Procedure
Not all proximity cards and tags have the serial numbers printed on them.
However, the card number must be programmed into the Galaxy panel to
allow the card to work. To simply this programming process, a card self-
learn procedure has been included in the Keyprox.
Note: The card self-learn procedure should only be used whilst the
Keyprox is in the user menu for entering the MAX card number and the
panel is waiting for the actual card number to be entered. Use of the self-
learn at other times will result in random menu selections.
Procedure
1. Use the Keyprox to enter menu option 42.1. Select the user to
which the card is to be assigned. Within the user menu, select
option 7=MAX Number.
2. Delete all the digits of the existing number using the B< button.
3. Place the keypad in the Self-Learn mode by holding the A button
and pressing 1 button simultaneously. The keypad will give a
double beep to indicate entry into the Self-Learn mode.
4. Within 3 seconds of the double beep, swipe the new card at the
Keyprox.
5. The card number will appear one the keypad display.
6. Press ENT to save the card number.
7. To enter more cards, repeat the procedure for other users.
Note: The Self-Learn mode will time out after 3 seconds if no card is
presented. During the Self-Learn mode operation, the keypad buttons will
not function.

Operation
The Keyprox will behave as two separate module. The keypad section will
function as a standard Galaxy Keypad, for setting/unsetting, programming
and general operation.
The Proximity card reader section operates similar to a Galaxy MAX
reader. Swiping a card in front of the read head in the lower right hand
corner of the keypad will be seen as a valid card read by the panel. This
can be utilised if required by using Links on the Galaxy Panel. To perform
the card held function assigned to card user, the card must be held in front
of the read head for at least 3 seconds. A long beep will be heard from the
keypad buzzer and the card held function will be performed.
Dual Focus
Dual Focus means that the PIN and the Card belonging to the same user
must be used together to access the system. This is typically used as a
secure method of setting and unsetting the system. To achieve this, assign
a # to PIN of the user and to the MAX number. Assign an appropriate MAX
function, for example, 12=Timed set. To the system now, a user would
have to enter their PIN, then hold the card in front of the reader for 3
seconds to begine setting the system. To unset, simply enter the PIN then
briefly swipe the card in front of the reader.
Door Control Programming
Door control functionality can be achieved by setting up zones, outputs and
links on the Galaxy panel as shown in the example below.
Keyprox
(Addr 0)
Door Contact Zone 1011
Door Release on output 1011
Egress button inside,
on zone 1012
Zone 1011 is programmed as a Security zone.
Zone 1012 is programmed as a Link zone.
Output 1011 is programmed as Link-A type, mode=pulse 5 Sec.
Output 1012 is programmed as Link-B (door open time out), pulse 15 Sec.
Keyprox is on address 00 (MAX 10)
Program the following links:
1. Source MAX 10 Destination Link-A
2. Source MAX 10 Destination Link-B
3. Source #1012 Destination Zone 1011
4. Source Zone 1012 Destination Link-A
5. Source Zone 1012 Destination Link-B
This will program the door to unlock for 5 seconds and allow it to stay open
for 15 seconds from whenever a valid card is swiped at the Keyprox. Zone
1012 is programmed as an Egress button which will open the door in the
same way as a valid card swipe.
If the door is forced, a standard zone alarm will occur.
