Fuel
Use only clean fresh unleaded
regular grade gasoline
Gasoline is extremely
ammable and can be
explosive under certain
conditions. Turn the
engine switch OFF.
Do not smoke. Make
sure the area is well
ventilated and free from
any source of ame or
sparks; this includes any
appliance with a pilot
light. Never ll the tank
so the fuel level rises
into the ller neck. If
the tank is over lled.
heat may cause the fuel
to expand and over ow
through the vents in the
tank cap. After refueling,
make sure the tank cap
is closed securely. If
gasoline is spilled on
the fuel tank, wipe it off
immediately.

Periodic Maintenance Chart
To ensure satisfactory operation over an extended period of time, any engine requires normal
maintenance at regular intervals. The Periodic Maintenance Chart below shows periodic inspection and
maintenance items and suitable intervals.
The bullet mark (
) designates that the corresponding item should be performed at that interval.
Some adjustments require the use of special tools or other equipment. An electronic tachometer will
facilitate setting idle and running speeds.

Engine Cooling Fins
• Disconnect spark plug cable.
• Clean cooling ns on cylinder
block and head.
• Connect spark plug cable.
Air Cleaner
A clogged air cleaner restricts the
engine’s air intake, increasing
fuel consumption, reducing
engine power, and causing spark
plug fouling.
The air cleaner elements must be
cleaned and replaced.
If dirt gets through into
the engine, excessive
engine wear and possibly
engine damage will
occur.
• Remove air cleaner cover and
precleaner.
• Remove paper element.
• Wash precleaner in liquid
detergent and warm water. Let
air dry.
• Tap paper element lightly.
Brush off dust. If element is dirty,
install new element.
• Install precleaner element and

Spark Plug
• Disconnect spark plug cable and
remove spark plug.
Do not clean spark plug
in a machine using
abrasives.
CAUTION
• Clean spark plug with a wire
brush.
• Inspect spark plug for:
- Cracked porcelain.
- Pitted or damaged electrodes.
- Other wear or damage.
• Check gap with a thickness
gauge.
• Set gap to 0.6-0.7 mm .
• Install and tighten spark plug to
15 N-m (1 .5kg-m).
• Connect spark plug cable.
• NGK BR6HS
Engine Oil
In order for the engine to
function properly, maintain the
engine oil at the proper level,
and change the oil. Not only do
dirt and metal particles collect
in the oil, but the oil itself loses
its lubricative quality if used too
long.
Engine Oil Level
• Stop engine. Put edger on level
ground.
• Adjust cutting depth lever so
engine is level.
• Clean area around dipstick.
• Remove dipstick. Wipe with
clean rag.
• Install dipstick - Do not tighten.
Let dipstick threads rest on top of
tube .
• Remove dipstick. Check oil
level. If the oil level is near
or below the “L” mark on the
dipstick, add SAE 10W-30 Engine
Oil to the engine and bring the
engine oil level to the “H” mark
on the dipstick.

• Remove belt from engine
sheave .
• Pull belt out from rear.
A. Blade Sheave
B. Engine Sheave
• Install new belt.
Be sure angle lever is in
the middle segmented
position.
• Install brake guard. Do not
tighten bolts.
• Push brake guard assembly
forward or backward until brake
arm clearance is 5mm. Tighten
bolts to 15 N-m (1.5 kg-m) .
• Adjust belt tension.
MAINTENANCE AND ADJUSTMENT
At all times the tension of the belt
should be maintained in order to
run safely and prolong the life
of the belt. A belt that has been
incorrectly adjusted will result in
shorter belt life. A belt that has
been adjusted too loosely may
slip over the sheaves. If the belt
slips over the sheaves, adjust the
tension immediately.
WARNING
Help avoid injury when
you adjust belt tension:
Stop engine.
Let engine cool.
