1 Overview
About This Chapter
Event information that are automatically recorded by Integrated Storage Manager (ISM) during
the operating of N8300 can be useful for troubleshooting problems that may occur. This chapter
describes the event levels and event signal flows.
1.1 Event Level
This section describes the event levels.
1.2 Event Signal Flow
This section describes the trigger mechanism of event flows in the N8300 management modules.
The event signal flow helps you to understand the reporting process of event signals, and
improves event handling efficiency.

1.1 Event Level
This section describes the event levels.
Event Level
An event level indicates the severity of an event to the N8300. The event level is displayed on
the ISM and can be classified into the following levels:
l Critical
This level indicates that a fault has caused service interruption or device failure. Recovery
measures should be taken immediately.
l Major
This level indicates that a fault has significant impact on the device or system performance.
Measures should be taken immediately to prevent more serious faults. All hardware faults
are Major.
l Warning
This level indicates that a fault has no impact on the device. The system detects a potential
or an imminent fault that is about to affect the services.
l Info
This level indicates that an event has no impact on the device or system performance.
1.2 Event Signal Flow
This section describes the trigger mechanism of event flows in the N8300 management modules.
The event signal flow helps you to understand the reporting process of event signals, and
improves event handling efficiency.
If the N8300 is faulty, the module in which the fault occurs reports the fault to the service control
module and alarm reporting module. The service control module and alarm reporting module
analyze the fault information. Then the service control module reports the fault information to
the underlying module for further handling. The alarm module reports the fault information to
the device alarm indicator to activate a visual alarm, and to the Integrated Storage Manager
(ISM) to display the alarm status and cause.
Figure 1-1 shows the event signal figure of the N8300.

Figure 1-1 Event signal figure
(1) Indicates that a module is faulty, and the fault information is reported to the service control
module and alarm module.
(2) Indicates that the service control module and alarm module analyze the fault information,
and then the information is handled as follows:
l The service control module reports the fault information to the underlying module for
further handling.
l The alarm module reports the fault information to the device alarm indicator to generate a
visual alarm, and to the ISM to display the alarm status and cause.
