OPERATOR SAFETY

D Always wear safety glasses or similar eye

protect i on when operati ng, servicing, or

per form ing mainten anc e on your unit.

W eari ng eye protection can help to pre-

vent rocks or debr i s f rom being blown or

ri co cheting int o eyes and face which can

result in blindness or serious injury .

D Always wear a respirat or or face mask

when working with the unit in dusty envi-

ro nm en ts.

D Dress safely in long pants. Do not go

barefoot or wear short pants or sandals.

D Do not operate the unit when you are

tired, ill, upset, or if you are under the influ-

ence of alcohol, drugs, or medication.

D Secure hair so it is above shoulder length.

Keep loose hair, loose clothi ng, finger s,

and all other parts of the body away from

openings and moving parts. Hair, jewelr y,

loose clot hi ng, or clothing with loosely

hanging st raps, ties, tassels, etc., can be

caught in mo ving parts.

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

W ARNING:

rain, in damp or wet locations, or around

swimmi ng pools, hot tubs, etc. Do not ex-

plug or unit with wet hands. A void danger-

ous situati ons. Do not use in the presence

of f l ammable liquids or gases to avoid

creati ng a fir e or explosion and/or causing

damage to unit . Do not abuse cord. Never

carry the unit by t he exten sion cord or yank

extension cord to disconnect unit . To un-

plug, grasp the pl ug, not the cord. Do not

use cord as a handle, close a door on cord,

or pull cord ar oun d sharp edges or corner s.

not use with damaged cor d or plug. If unit is

not working as it should, has been dropped,

damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into

water , return it to your authorized service

dealer for r epair. Unplug the unit from the

power source when not in use, befor e serv-

icing, cleani n g, perf ormin g mai ntenance, or

stori ng. Do not put any object into openings.

Do not use wit h any openi ng bl oc ked; keep

free of dust, li n t, hair and anything that may

reduce air flow.

D Use only a voltage supply as shown on the

nameplate of the unit.

D Avoid dangerous environment s. Do not

use in unvent il at ed ar eas or where dust or

expl os ive vapor s can build up.

S To reduce the ri s k of elect rical shock, this

equipment has a polarized pl ug (one

blade is wi der than t he other ) and will re-

quire the use of a polari zed extension

cord. The appliance plug will fit into a po-

lar ized extension cord only one way. If the

plug does not fit f ull y into the extension

cord, reverse the plug. If the plug still

does not fit, obtain a correct polari zed ex-

tension cord. A polarized extension cord

will require the use of a polar i zed wall out-

let. This plug will fit into the polarized wall

out let only one way. I f pl ug does not fit ful-

ly into the wall outlet, reverse the plug. If it

still does not fit, contact a qualified electri-

cian to instal l the proper wall outlet . Do not

change the equipment plug, extension

cord receptacle, or extensio n cord plug in

any way.

D To reduce the risk of elect rical shock, use

extension cords specifically marked as

suitable for outdoor appliances. The

electr i cal rating of the cord must be higher

than the rati ng of the unit. The cor d must

be marked with the suffix “W-A” (i n Cana-

da, “W”) . Make sure your ext ension cord

is i n good condition. Inspect extension

cord before use and replace i f damaged.

An undersized extension cord wi l l cause

a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of

power and overheati ng. If in doubt, use

the next heavier gauge. The smaller t he

gauge number, the heavier the cord.

(NOTE: The correct size to be used de-

pending on the cord length is shown in

this manual. See

S Keep the extension cord clear of operator

and obstacles at al l times.

D Tie cord to cord retainer and connect to

recessed plug as shown in this manual to

prevent damage to unit and/or extension

cord and to reduce the possibility of the

extension cord disconnecting fr om the

unit dur ing oper ati on.

D Do not attempt to repair unit . I nspect the

insulation and connectors on the unit and

exte nsion cor d befor e each use. If there

is any damage, do not use unti l damage

is repaired by your authorized service

dealer.

D Don’t use t he unit if the switch does not

turn the unit on and off properly. Have the

unit repair ed by an authorized ser vice

dealer.

D Avoid accidental start ing. Be sure the

switch is in the

OFF positi on and keep

your hand and fingers away from the

switch while connecti ng the unit to the

power sour ce or when carrying a unit

connect e d to th e power sou rce.

D Avoid any body contact with any

grounded conductor, such as metal

fences, or pipes, to avoid the possibility of

electri c shock.

D Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)

protection should be pr ovided on the cir-

cuit or out let to be used for this uni t . Re-

ceptacles are available having built-in

GFCI protecti on and may be used for this

measure of saf ety.

D Stop the motor immed iatel y if you are ap-

proached.

DOUBLE INSULATION CONSTRUC-

TION

Y our unit is double insulated to help protect

again st elect ric shock. Doubl e insulati o n

construction consist s of two separate “lay-

ers” of electrical insulation instead of

grounding. Tools and appli ances built with a

doubl e insula t ion system ar e not int en ded

to be grounded. No grounding means is

pro vided on this unit, nor should a means

for grounding be added to thi s unit. As a re-

sult, the extension cord used with your unit

can be plugged into any standar d 120 volt

electr ical outlet.

Safe ty precautions must be observed when

oper ating any elect rical tool . The doubl e in-

sulation system only provi des added pro-

tection against injury resulting from an inter-

nal electrical insulation failure.

W ARNING:

All electrical repairs to this unit, including

housin g, switch, m otor, etc. , must be d i ag-

nosed and repa ired by an autho rized ser-

vice dealer. Replacement parts for a double

insulated appliance must be identical to the

parts they replace. A double insulated

appliance is mar ked wit h the wor ds

“DOUBLE INSULA TION” or “DOUBLE INSU-

LA TED.”

UNIT/ M AI NTENAN CE SA FETY

D Do not set the unit on any sur f ace except

a clean, hard area while the uni t is run-

ning. Debri s such as gr avel, sand, dust,

grass, etc., could be picked up by the air

intake and thrown out through the dis-

charge opening, damaging the unit, prop-

erty, or causing serious injury to bystand-

ers or operator.

D Do not overr ea ch or use from unstable

surfaces such as ladders, t rees, st ee p

slopes, rooft ops, etc. Use extra care

when cleanin g on stairwa ys. Keep fi rm

foo ting and bal an ce at all ti m e s. Keeps

hands out of t ubes.

D Inspect the ent ire unit befo re each use for

wor n , loose, mi s sing, or dama ged parts.

Do not use until the unit is in proper work-

ing order .

D This unit is double insulated. See the

DOUBLE INSULA TION CONSTRUCTION

section. Have all int ernal service per-

formed by qualified servi ce repair person-

nel t o avoid creat i ng a hazard or voiding

your warr ant y.

D Have all maintenance other than t he rec-

ommended procedures descri bed in the

instr ucti on manual perfor med by an au-

thori zed servi ce dealer.

D Always see an authorized ser vi ce dealer

to replace a damaged impeller. Par t s that

are chipped, cracked, br oken, or dam-

aged in any other way can fly apart and

cause serious i njur y. Replace damaged

parts befor e using t he unit .

D Never place any object in the air intake

opening as this could restr ict proper air

flow and cause damage to t he unit .

D Never douse the unit wit h water or other

liqui ds or squirt with a water hose. Clean

theunitusingadampcloth.Wipeoffwith

a clean dry cloth. See

D Check air intake openings and tubes fre-

quently , always with the unit stopped and

power source di sconnected. Keep vents

and tubes fr ee from debris which can ac-

cumulate and r estr i ct proper air flow.

D Do not burn, incine rate, or expose this

unit to extreme heat.

D Store the unit unplugged in a high, cool,

dr y, indoor area out of the re ach of chil-

dren.

D Use only recommended attachments

and replacement parts to avoid creating a

hazar d and/or voiding your warranty.

D Maintain the unit according to recom-

mended procedures.

BLOWER SAFETY

D Use only in dayl ight or in good artificial

light.

D Inspect the area before using the unit .

Remove all debris and hard objects such

as rocks, glass, wire , etc. , that can rico-

chet , be thrown, or othe rwise cause injury

or damage duri ng operat i on.

D Never run the unit without the proper

equipment attached. When used as a

blower, always install a blower tube. Use

only recommended att achments.

D To avoid spreading fire, do not use blower

near leaf or brush fires, fi r eplaces, barbe-

cue pi t s, ashtrays , etc.

D Never place object s inside the blower

tubes; always direct the blowing debris

away fr om people, ani m als, glass, and

solid objects such as t r ees, automobil es,

walls,etc.Theforceofaircancause

rocks, dirt, or sticks to be thrown or to rico-

chet which can hurt people or animals,

break glass, or cause other damage.

D Never use for spreading chemicals, fertil-

izers, or any ot her subst ances which may

cont ain toxic mat erial s.

VACUUM SAFETY (If applicable)

D Stop the motor and disconnect the power

source before opening the air inlet door or

attempting to insert or remove the vacu-

um tubes. The motor must be stopped

and the impeller blades no longer tur ning

to avoid serious injury from the rotati ng

blad es.

D Hard objects can be thr own thr ough the

collect ion bag or the housing and be-

come danger o us missiles whi ch can

cause seriou s inj ury to operator or other s.

D When using the vacuum attachment, the

unit is designed to pick up dry materi al

such as leaves, grass, small twigs, and

bits of paper . Do not vacuum stones,

grave l, metal, broken glass, etc., to avoid

severe damage to the impell er. To avoid

the possibility of electrical shock, do not

att empt to vacuum water or other liquids.

D Never run the unit without the proper

equipment attached. When used as a

vacuum, alwa ys install va cuum tubes

and collecti on bag assembly. Make sure

the collection bag assembly is completely

zipped when unit is running to avoid flying

debr is. Use only recom m en ded att ach-

ments.

D Avoid situati ons which could set the col-

lecti on bag on fire. Do not vacuum di s-

carded matches, cigars, ci gar ett es, or

ash f r om fir epl aces, barbecue pi ts, brush

piles, etc. To avoid spreading fi r e, do not

use blower near leaf or brush fires, fire-

places, barbecue pit s, ashtrays, etc.

D Always use collection bag shoulder strap

when vacuumin g to avoid loss of control.

D Check air in t a ke openings, elbow t ube ,

and vacuum tubes frequentl y, alw ays

wit h the unit stopped and the power

source disconnected. Keep vent s and

tub es free of debri s which can accumu-

late and restrict proper air flow. Do not

use with any opening blocked. Keep free

of dust, lint , hair and anything that may re-

duce air flow.

dar d 1017.

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

ASSEMBLY

WARNING: Stop the unit and dis-

connect from the power source befor e

openi n g the i nlet cover or attempting to in-

sert or remove the inlet restrictor , blower

tube , nozzle, or vacuum tub es . The motor

must be stopped and the impell er blades no

longer turning to avoid serious injury from

the rot at i ng blades.

WARNING: If you receive your

unit assembled, check each step to in-

sure your unit is properly assembled and

all fasteners are secure. Follow all safety

information in the manual and on unit.

S A standard screwdriver is required for

assembly.

BLOWER ASSEMBLY

NOTE: Assembly intructions for using

your unit as a vacuum follow this section.

ATTACHING T HE BLOWER TUBE AND

NOZZLE

1. Insert th e blower t ube int o the bl ow er

outlet.

2. Twist the blower tube clockwise until it

is firmly seated in the blower outlet.

3. Twist the nozz le into the end of the

blower tube until it is firmly seated.

For Model 2695 only, the blower exten-

sion tube and nozzle are combined into

one c omponent.

VACUUM ASSEMBLY

(Some models)

NOTE: Assembly instructions for using

your unit as a blower are ex plained in the

previous section.

If you have already assembled your unit

for use as a blower, remove the blower

tube and nozzle.

REMOVE THE INLET RESTRICTOR

An inlet restrictor is used when using your

unit as a blower. This restrictor is not used

during vacuum use and must be removed

during assembly fo r vacuum u se.

NOTE: Be sure to k eep the inlet restrictor

for using your unit as a blower.

1. Ensure unit is st opp ed and extension

cord is unplugged.

2. Open the inlet cover by inserting the

tip of a screwdriver into the latch area

on the vacuum inlet cover. Gently tilt

handle of screwdriver toward the front

of the unit while pulling up on the vacu-

um inlet cov er with your other hand.

3. Turn the inlet restrictor counterclock-

wise and remove it from the unit. Do not

close the inl et door . You wil l next att ach

the vacuum tubes.

ATTACHING TH E VACUUM TUBES

There are 2 vacuum tubes, an upper and

lower tube. The upper tube is cut strai ght on

both ends and attaches to the blower unit .

The lower tube attaches to the upper tube,

and has an angled end that you point to-

ward t he gr ound during vacuum use.

1. Ens ure unit is s topped and extension

cord is unplugged.

2. Lo cate the arrows on the upper vac u-

um tube and on the vacuum inlet area

of the unit.

3. While holding the inlet cover open, align

the arrows and insert the vacuum tube

into the opening. T w i st the tube clock-

wise until it is seated. A second arr ow on

the vacuum tube will align with the arrow

on the unit once the tube is twist ed com-

pletel y i nto place.

4. To a ttach the lowervacuum tube to the

upper vacuum tube, first align the ar-

rows on the two tubes. Then, press the

two tubes together until the lower tube

is securely seated in the upper tube

(about 3 inches).

ATTACH THE COLL E CT ION BAG

Slide the opening of the collection bag

over the blower outlet. Pull the velcro

strap tightly through the buck le and se-

cure to the velcro tabs.

NOTE: Make sure the velcro strap is lo-

cated on the blower outlet as shown be-

low. Also, make sure the zipper on the

bag is completely closed.

ADJUSTING THE SHOULDER STRAP

ON THE COLLECTION BAG

1. Carefully loop the shoulder strap

through the buckle as shown in the il-

lustration below.

2. Pos ition the unit on you r right-hand

side, blower outlet and bag pointing

toward the rear. Hold the unit in an up-

right position with the lower vac uum

tube on the ground to s upport it.

3. Place the shoulder strap ove r your

head and onto your left shoulder.

4. Adjust the strap to allow a free flow of

air from the blower. If the collection

bag is kinked, the unit will not operate

properly.

NOTE: The strap is designed to positi on

the coll ect i on bag on your shoulder wit hout

kinks. The strap is not i nt ended to support

the weight of the uni t.

HOW TO CONVERT UNIT FROM

VACUUM USE TO BLOWER USE

1. Stop unit and u nplug the extension

cord.

2. Remove the vac uum tubes and

collection bag.

3. Install the inlet restrictor that was re-

moved when asse mbling for va cuum

use.

NOTE: If y ou are unable to locate the inlet

restrictor, the unit will still operate. This re-

strictor improves the blower function.

4. Close the inlet cover and make sure it

is latched closed.

5. Re-install the blower tubes. Refer to

the section

ATTACHING THE BLOWER

TUBE AND NOZZLE

for instructions on

how to attach these items.

SELECT AN EXTENSION CORD

Use only a 120 A.C. voltage supply as

shown on the nameplate of the unit.

The extensi on cord used to reach the pow-

er source must be:

D Specifically marked as suitable for out-

door use. The cord must be marked with

the suf fix “W -A” (in C anad a “W” ).

D Heavy enough t o carry full curr ent from

the power source to the unit. O therw ise,

loss of power and overheat i ng can occur

causing damage to unit. Refer to table for

minimum wir e gauge recommendat ions.

The cord must be marked with the proper

wir e gauge. (Appropri at e extension cords

ar e available .) Do not use m ultiple cords.

D In good condition. Cor d insulat i on must

be intact with no cracks or deter ior at i on.

Plug connectors must be undamaged.

SECURE EXTENSIO N CORD TO UNIT

CAUTION: Failure to use cord retainer

could result in damage to the unit, exten-

sion cord, or both.

1. Lo op extension cord through cord re-

tainer.

2. Insert cord receptacle through loop.

3. Hold the cord receptacle in one hand.

Use the other hand to gently pull on

the extension cord to remove slack.

NOTE: Only remove enough slack

from the extension cord to secure it to

the c ord retainer. Pulling too hard

could damage the extension cord.

4. Insert the cord receptacle into the re-

cessed plug.

USING YOUR UNIT

WARNING: You MUST make sur e

the tubes are secure before using t h e unit.

WARNING: Do not use the unit

without the tubes or collection bag prop-

erly attached to avoid flying debris and/or

impeller co ntact which can caus e s erious

injury. Always wear eye protection to pre-

vent rocks or debris from being blown or

rico cheting into the eyes and face which

can result in blindness or serious injury.

USING YOUR UNIT AS A BLOWER

WARNING: Inspect the area b e-

fore using the unit. Remove all debris and

hard objects su ch as rocks, glass, wire,

etc.,that can ricochet, be thrown,orother-

wise cause injury or damage during op-

eration.

Use y our unit as a blower for:

D Sweeping debris or grass clippings f r om

driveways, sidewal ks, pati o s, etc.

D Blowing gra ss clippings, straw, or lea ves

into piles, or removing debris from cor-

ners, around j oints, or between br icks.

Direct air flow by directing the blower tube/

nozzle down or to one side. Always work

away from solid objects such as walks,

large sto nes, vehicles, and fe n ces.

Clean corner s by start ing in corner s and

moving outward. This wi ll help prevent an

accumulation of debris which could fly into

your face.

Be caref ul when working near plants. The

force of the air could damage tender plant s.

USING YOUR UNIT AS A VACUUM

WARNING: Do not vacuum stones,

grave l , metal, broken glass, etc., to avoid

severe damage to the impell er. To avoid

the possibility of electrical shock, do not at-

tempt to vacuum water or other li quids.

Use y our unit as a va cuum to pick up dry

material such as leaves, grass, small

twigs, and bits of pape r.

D For best results during v acuum us e, op-

erate your unit at high s peed .

D Move slowly back and forth over the

material as you vacuum. Avoid forcing

the unit into a pile of debris as this can

clog the unit.

D Keep the vacuum tube about an inch

above the ground for best results.

WARNING: If the unit becomes

clogged, stop the unit and unplug the ex-

tension cord. Wait until the impeller has

completely stopped turning, then remove

the v acuum tubes. Carefully reach into

the vacuum opening and clear out the

clogged debris.

MAINTENANCE

GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS

The warranty on this unit does not cover

items that have been subject ed to operat or

abuse or negli genc e. To receive full value

from the warranty , the operator must main-

tain unit as instructed in this manual. V ari-

ous adjustments will need to be made peri-

odically to properly maintain your unit.

bag without emptyi ng the bag of all con-

tents ( gr ass, leaves, etc.).

D Wash the bag once a year. Remove the

bag from the blower and tur n the bag in-

side out. Wash the bag wit h a water hose.

Allow the bag to hang and dry completely

before you reuse t he bag.

opening the inlet cover. Th e motor must

be stopped and the impeller b lades no

longer turning to avoid s erious injury from

the rotating blades.

S While holding the inlet cover open, re-

move the vacuum tubes. The inlet c ov-

er must be held open through all re-

maining steps.

S Carefully reach into the v acuum open-

ing and c lear out the air intake area.

Clear all debris from impeller.

S Inspect the impeller for cracks. If

cracked or damaged, do not use the

unit. Have parts replaced by your au-

thorized service dealer. Do not attempt

to replace them yourself.

STORAGE

WARNING: Perform the following

steps after each use:

S Stop unit and disconnect f r om t he power

source .

S Allow motor to cool befor e storing or

transporting.

S Store unit wit h all guards in place. Posi-

tion unit so that any sharp object cannot

accidentall y cause injur y.

S Store unit unplugged, well out of the

reach of chi l dren.

SEASONAL STORAGE

Prepare unit for storage at the end of the

season or if it will not be used for 30 days

or more.If your blower is to be stored for a

period of time:

S Stop unit and disconnect f r om t he power

source .

S Clean the ent ir e unit before lengthy stor-

age.

S Open inlet cover and clean any dir t ,

grass, or debris that has coll e cted. I n-

spect the blower and all tubes. Close and

make sure t he cover i s latche d.

S Clean air vents and air i nlet of debri s.

S Store y our unit and extension cord in a

well ventilated area and covered, if pos-

sible, to prevent dust and dirt accumula-

tion. Do not cover with plastic. Plastic

cannot breathe and may cause con-

densation and eventual rust or corro-

sion.

S Check enti re unit for l oose scr ew s. Re-

place any damaged, worn, or broken

parts.
