electrical business equipment. These safety standards impose important requirements on the use of safety critical components,
materials and ins ulation, in order to protect the user or operator against risk of electric shock and energy haz ard and ha ving access
to live parts. Safety standards also impo se limits to the internal and external temperature rises, radiation levels, mechanical stability
and strength, enclosure construction and protection against the risk of re. Simulated single fault condition testing ensure s the
safety of the equipm ent to the user even when the equipment’s norm al operation fails.
Notice on optical radiation
This projector embeds extrem ely high brightness (radiance) lasers; this laser light is proc essed through the projector’s optical path.
Native laser light is not accessible b y the end user in any use case. The light exiting the projection lens has been diffused within
the optical path, representing a larger source and lower r adiance v alue than native laser light. Nevertheless the projected light
represents a signicant risk for the human eye and skin when exposed directly within the beam. This risk is not specically related
to the characteristics of laser light but solely to the high thermal induced energ y of the light source; which is equivalent w ith lam p
based systems.
Thermal retinal eye injury is possible when exposed within the Hazard Dis tance (HD). The HD is de ned from the projection lens
surface towards the position of the projected beam where the irradiance equals the maximum per missible exposure as described in
the chapter “Hazard Distance”.
WARNING: No d irect exposure t o the beam within the h azard distance shall b e permitted, RG3 (Risk Group
3) IEC 62471-5:2015
CAUTION: Use of controls or adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specied herein
may result in hazardous radiation exposu re.

e.
Warning: extremely high brightness projector: T his projector embeds extremely high brightness (radiance) lasers; this laser
light is processed through the projectors optical path. Native laser light is not ac cessible by the end user in an y us e case. T he
light exiting the projection lens has been defused within the optical path, representing a larger source and lower radiance value
than native laser light. Nevertheless the projected light represents a signicant risk for the human eye when exposed directly
within the beam . This risk is not specic related to the characteristics of laser light but s olely to the high t hermal induced energy
of the light source; w hich is comparable w ith lamp based system s.
Thermal retinal eye injury is possible when exposed within the Hazard Distance. The Hazard Distance (HD) is de ned from
the projection lens surface towards the position of the projected beam where the irradiance equals the maxim um permissible
exposure as described in the ch apter "High Brightness precautions: Hazard Distance (HD)", page 7 .
Based on international requirements, no person in a llowed to enter the projected beam within the zone between the projection
lens and the related Ha zard Distance (HD). This shall be physically impossible by creating sufcient s eparation height or by

Barco large screen projection products are designed and manufactured to meet the m ost stringent safety regu lations. This
projector radiates heat on its external surfaces and from ventilation ducts during normal operation, which is both nor mal and
safe. Exposing ammable or combus tible materials into close proximity of this projector could result in the spontaneous ignition
of that material, resulting in a re. For this reason, it is absolutely necessary to leave an “exclusion zone” arou nd all external
surfaces of the projector whereby no ammable or combustible materials are present. The exclusion zone mu st be not less
than 40 cm (16”) for this projector.
Do not place any object in the pro jection light path at close distance to the projection lens outpu t. The concentrated light at the
projection lens output may re sult in damage, re or burn injuries.
Ensure that the projector is solidly moun ted so th at the projection light path cannot be changed by accident.
Do not cover the projector or t he lens with any material while the projector is in ope ration. . Mount the projector in a well
ventilated area away from sources of ignition and out of direct sun light. N ever expose the projector to rain or m oisture. In
the event of re, use s and, CO
2
or dry powder re ex tinguishers. Never use water on an electrical re. Always have service
performed on this projector by authorized Barco s ervice personnel. Always insist on genuine Barco replacement parts. Never
use non-Barco replacement parts as they may degrade the safety of this projec tor.
Slots and openings in this equipm ent are p rovided for ventilation. To ensure reliable operati
on of the projec tor and to protect
it from overheating, these openings m ust n ot be blocked or covered. The openings should never b e bloc ked by placing the
projector too close to walls, or other similar s urface. T his projector should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat
register. This projector should not be placed in a built-in installation or enclosure un
less p roper ventilation is provided.
Projection rooms must be well ve ntilated or cooled in order to avoid build up of heat. It is necessary to vent hot exhaust air from
projector and cooling system to the outside of the building.
Let the projector cool c ompletely before storing. Rem ove cord from the projector when storing.
To prevent projector dam age
The air lters of the projector must be cleane d or replaced on a regular basis. C leaning the boo th area would be m onthly-
minimum. Neglecting this could result in disr upting the air ow
inside the projector, causing overhea ting. Ov erheating may lead
to the projec tor shutting down during operation.
The projector must always be installed in a manner which ensures free ow of air into its air inlets.
If more t han one projector is installed in a comm on projection booth, the exha ust air ow requirements are valid for EACH
individual projector system. Note that inadequate air extraction or cooling will result in decreased life expectancy of the projector
as a whole as w ell as c ausing premature failure of the lasers.
In order to ensure that correct airow is maintained, and that the projector complies with Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
and safety requirements, it should always be operated with all of it’s c overs in place.
Slots and openings in the cabinet are pro vided for ventilation. To ensure reliable op eration of the product and to protect it from
overheating, these openings mus t not be blocked or cov ered. Th
e openings should never be blocked by plac ing the product
on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface. This product should never be placed near or over a radiator or heat register. The
device should not be placed in a built-in installation or enclosure unless proper ventilation is provided.
Ensure that nothing can be spilled on, or dropped inside the p rojector. I f this does happen, switch off and remove all pow er
from the projector. Do not operate the projector again until it has been checked by qualied service p ersonnel.
Do not block the projector coo ling fans or free air m ovem ent around the projector.
Proper operation of the projector can only be guaranteed in table mounted position. Howe ver, it is permitted to place the
table-mounted projector under a specic tilt or roll angle. See installation procedure for correct installation.
Special care for Laser B eams: Special care should be used when DLP projectors are us ed in the same room as high pow er
laser equipment. D irect or indirect hitting of a
laser beam on to the lens can severely damage the Digital Mirror Devices
TM
in
which case there is a loss of warranty.
Never place the projector in direct sunlight. Sunlight on the lens c an s everely dama ge the Digital Mirror Devices
TM
in which
case there is a loss of warranty.
Save the original shipping carton and packing material. They will come in handy if you ever have to ship your equipment. F or
maximum protection, repack your set as it was originally packed at the factory.
Disconnect the power to the projectors m ains terminals before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners. Use a
damp cloth for cleaning. Never use strong solvents, s uch as thinner or benzine or abrasive cleaners, since these will damage
the cabinet. Stubborn stains may be removed with a c loth lightly dampened with m ild detergent solution.
To ensure the highest o ptical performa
nce and resolution, the projection lenses are specially treated with an anti-reective
coating, therefore, av oid touching the lens. To remov e dust on the lens, use a soft dry cloth. For lens cleaning follow the
instructions precisely as stipulated in the projector manual.
Rated maximum ambient temperature, t
a
= 40 °C (104 °F).
Rated humidity = 0% RH to 80% RH Non-condensed.
An external frame must be used to stack projectors.
For functionality and reliability, the p
rojector requires accurate temperature c ontrol and cooling be low ambient. Therefore a
liquid c ooling system is prov ided consisting of liquid circuits inside the projector which are c onnected via hoses to external
chillers. Only chiller models and hoses ex clusively developed for this application and approved by Ba rco are allowed to be
used. Barc o a p proved chillers mod els
are listed on the B arco website.
An adequate draining system m ust be coupled with the drain pipes at the bottom of the projector to collect and lead away the
condensed water from the built-in air-dryers. The capacity of the draining system must m eet the h umidity c onditions w herein
the projector opera tes. T he water drain mus t arrives into an ’open’ water container!

1.5 High Brightness precautions: Hazard Distance (HD )
HD
Hazard Distance (HD) is th
e distance measured from the projection lens at wh ich the intensity or the energy per surface
unit becom es lower than the applicable exposure limit on th e cornea or on the skin. T he light beam is considered (to
be) unsafe for exposure if the distance from a person to the light source is less than the HD.
Restriction Zone (RZ) based on the HD
The HD depends on the am ount of lume ns produced by the projector and the type of lens installed. S ee next chapter"HD in function
of m odifying optics",
page 11 .
To p rotect untrained end us ers (as cinema visitors, spectators) the installation s hall comply with the following installation require-
ments: Operators shall c ontrol access to the beam w ithin the haz ard distance or install the pro duct at the h eight that will prevent
spectators’ eyes from being in the haza rd distance. Radiation levels in excess of the limits will not be permitted at any point less than

2.0 m eter (SH) above any surface upon which persons other than operators, performers, or employees are permitted to stand or less
than 1.0 m eter (SW) lateral separation from any place wher e such persons are permitted to be. In en vironments where unrestrained
behavior is reasonably foreseeable, the m inimum s eparation height should be greater than or equal to 3 .0 m eter to prevent potential
exposure, for ex ample by an individual sitting on another individual’s shoulders, within the H D.
These values are minimum values and are based on the guidance provided in IEC 62471-5:2015 section 6.6.3.5.
The installer and user must understand the risk and apply pro tective meas ures based upon the hazard distance as indicated on
the label and in the user information. Installation method, separation height, barriers, detection system or other applicable control
measure shall prevent ha zardous eye access to the radiation within the hazard dis tance.
For example, projectors that have a HD grea ter than 1 m and emit light into an un controlled area where p
ersons m ay be present
should be positioned in accordance with “the xed projector installation” param eters, resulting in a HD that does not extend into
the audienc e area unless the beam is at least 2.0 m eter above the oo r level. In environments where unrestrained beha vior is
reasonably foreseeable, the m inimum s eparation height should be greater than or equal to 3.0
meter to prevent potential exp osure,
for exam ple by an individual sitting on an other individual’s shoulders, within the HD. S ufciently large separation height may be
achieved by m ounting the image projector on the ceiling or through the u se of physical barriers.

SW Separation Widt h.
Based on national requirements, no person is allowed to enter the projected beam within the zone between the projection lens and
the related hazard dis tance (HD). This shall b e physically impossible by c reating sufcient separation height or b y placing bar riers.
The minimum separation height takes into account the surface upon which persons other than operator, per formers or employees
are permitted to stand.
On image 1-2 a typical setup is displayed. It must be veried if these minimum requirements are met. If required a restricted zone
(RZ) in the theater mus t be established. This c an be do ne by using physical barrier, like a red rope as illustrated in image 1-2.
The restricted area sticker can be replaced by a sticker with only the symbol.

USA market
For LIPs (Laser Illuminated Pr ojectors) installed in the U
SA market other restriction zon e conditions apply.
Lip’s for installation in restrained environment (cinem a theaters) shall be installed at height vertically above the oor s uch that the
bottom plane of the hazar d distance zone shall be no lower than 2.5 meters above the oor. H orizontal clearance to the hazard
distance zone shall be not less than 1 meter.
Lip’s for installations in unre strained environment (large venues ,..) shall be installed at a height v ertically abo ve the oor such that
the bottom plane of the Hazard distance Zone shall be no lower than 3 m eters above the oor. Horizontal clearance to the hazard
distance zone shall be not less than 2.5 meters. Any hum an access horizontally to the Hazard Zone, if applicable, shall b e restricted
by barriers. If hum an access is possible in an unsupervised environm ent, the horizontal or ver tical clearances shall be increased to
prevent exposure t o the hazard distance z one.
In addition for temporary installations (e.g.: rental and s taging, lease, events …) the following requirements apply :
This product can only be installed by B arco or sold or leas ed only to valid laser light show variance holders. In other words
our installers are required to have an approved las er light show variance. Such installers may currently hold a valid variance
for production of Class IIIb and IV laser light shows an d/or for incorporation of the RG 3 LIPs into their shows. Dealers and
distributors ar e also require d to obtain a valid laser light show v ariance.
This product shall be located in such a way that all propagating beam paths within the Restriction Zone, and the au dience c an
be directly observed at all times .
Effects other than front or rear screen projections shall not be performed.
Communica tion s hall be maintained wit
h other personnel assisting in surveillance of the LIP projection.
In the event of any uns afe condition, imm ediately term inates (or designate the termination) of LIP pr ojection light.
Install one or more readily ac cessible controls to imm ediately terminate LIP projection light. The power input at the projector side
is considered as a reliable disconnect device. When required to switch o ff the projector, disconnect the power cord at the p rojector
side. In case the power input at the projector side is not acc essible (e.g. truss m ount), the sock et outlet supplying the projector shall
be installed nearby the projector and be easily accessible, or a readily accessible general dis connect device shall be incorporated
in the xed wiring.
Laser light s hows can be requested via the FDA online eSubm itter portal or via FDA Form F DA Form 3147 referencing to Barco’s
variance approval 2016-V-0144.

•HD
reection
: the distance that has to be kept restrictive related to the reec ted light from the rear projection screen.
•HD
diffuse
: the relevant distance to be considered while observing the diffuse surface of the rear projection screen.
As des cribed in "High Brightness pr ecautions: Ha zard Distance (HD)", page 7 , it is mandatory to create a restricted z one within
the beam areas closer than any HD. In the enclosed pro
jection area the com bination of two restricted zones are relev ant: The
restricted zone of the projected beam toward the screen; taking into account 1 meter Separation Width (SW) from the beam onward.
Combined with the restricted zone related to the rear reection from the screen (HD
reection
); also taking into account a 1 m eter lateral
separation.
The HD

distance equals 25% of the difference between the determined HD distance and the p rojection distance to the rear
projection screen. To determine the HD distance for the used lens and projector m odel see graphs in chapter "HD in function of
modifying optics", page 11.
