Installation
1. Findsuitablemountinglocation
TheControlModulemustbelocatedinaneasilyaccessible,drylocationprotectedfromaccidentalsplashes.
ThepowercordsandoptionalRENEW™communicationcableareapproximately6feetinlength,andlevel
sensorcablesareapproximately8feetinlength.Ensurethattheywill
reachfromtheControlModuletotheir
respectivelocationsbeforepermanentlymountingthecomponents.
2. MounttheControlModule
Ensurenoelectricalwiresorplumbingresidebehindorwithinthemountingarea.Beverycarefulwhen
drillingordrivingscrewsintoablindmountinglocation!
Usingthesupplied
templateasaguide,markanddrilltwopilotholesasindicated.
Insertwallanchorsifnecessary,followingalldirectionsprovidedwiththeanchors.
Drivethemountingscrewsintotheholesoranchors,leavingjustlessthan3/8”inchbetweenthescrewhead
andthemountingsurface.
SliptheControlModuleontothescrewsandgentlypulldownabout1/2"untilfullyseated.Thereshouldbe
no“play”betweentheControlModuleandthemountingsurfacewhenproperlysecured.
3. MounttheLevelSensors
TheLevelSensorShroudsaredesignedsuchthattheycanbeused
inmanydifferentconfigurations.
o LevelSensorscanbeinstalledinside,above,orbelowtheshrouds
o TheShroudCovercanbeinsertedontotherearoftheShroudtocreateahangerthatis
adjustablefortanklipwidthsasnarrowas1/2"oraswideas21/4

4. Connect
theComponents
NOTE:ALLWIRESSHOULDHAVEADRIPLOOPTOPREVENTWATERFROMENTERINGTHECONTROLMODULE
PlugintotheControlModulethelevelsensorharnessthatcontainsthe“Aquarium/Sump”and“TopOffBin”
Sensors.Thisharnessplugsintothe6pinreceptacleonthelower
lefthandside(asyouarelookingatthe
backoftheControlModule).
IfusingaROCvmodulewithyourSTORM™system,plugthelevelsensorharnessthatcontainsthe“ROCv
Max”and“ROCvMin”SensorsintotheControlModule.Thisharnessplugsintothe6pinreceptacle
onthe
lowerrighthandside(asyouarelookingatthebackoftheControlModule).
Ifused,plugtheaquariumorsump’sFailsafeLevelSensorcableintothe2pinreceptacleonthelowerright
handside(asyouarelookingatthebackoftheControlModule).
Ifused,plugthetopoffwaterbin’sFailsafeLevelSensorintothe2pinreceptacleonthelowerlefthandside
(asyouarelookingatthebackoftheControlModule).
IfcouplingyourSTORM™systemwithaRENEWautomaticwaterchangesystem(seeourwebsite

receptacleonthebackoftheSTORM™ControlModule,andplugtheotherendintothecenter6pin
receptacleonthebackoftheRENEWControlModule.

Attachasegmentofappropriatelysizednontoxictubingtoasubmersiblepumpandplacethepumpinthetopoffwater
bin.
6. Routethetubing totheaquariumorsump.Thetubingshouldbesecuredsuchthattheendofthetubingisjust above
thehighestwater
levelintheintheaquariumorsump,sothatthewaterwillrundownthesideofthetankasthewater
leveldrops.Doingsowillimprovewaterflow,reducenoise,andpreventwaterfromsiphoningbackintothetopoffbin.
Cutthetubingtolengthifnecessary.
7. Plugthepump’spowercordintotheACreceptacleonthebottomrightoftheControlModule(whenviewingthefrontof
theControlModule).EnsurethatadriploopisformedtopreventwaterfromenteringtheControlModule!
8. PlugtheControlModule’spowercordinto
aGFCIprotected110VACoutlet.Ensurethatadriploopisformedtoprevent
waterfromenteringtheControlModule!YouarenowreadytouseyourSTORM™System!
GettingtoknowyourSTORM™SpecializedTopOffandReplenishmentModule
1. Afterinstallingyoursystem,pluggingitin,andpreparingyourtopoffwater,turnontheSTORM™systembyusingthe
powerswitchonthefrontfaceoftheControlModule.Whenpoweris“ON,”theswitchwillilluminate.SeveralLED
indicatorsandthedisplaywillilluminatewhen
thepowerisonaswell.
2. TherearefouruserinputbuttonsontheControlModule.Startingontheleftandmovingtowardtheright,thebuttons
areAUXILIARYMODE,PAUSE/RESET,andthenINCREASEandDECREASEontheright.Allarelabeledaccordingly.
3. DepressingtheAUXILIARYMODE(AUX)
buttontellsthesystemhowtooperatetheauxiliarypoweroutlet(theleftmost
outlet).Momentarilypressingthebuttonwilltoggletheoutletonoroff.Ifthe“ON”indicatorisilluminated,theoutletis
energizedandaperipheraldevicewillreceivepower.Ifthe“OFF”indicatorisilluminated,no
electricityisbeingdelivered
throughtheoutlet,sothedevicewillbeturnedoff.PressingandholdingtheAUXbuttonforthreesecondswillchange
theauxiliaryoutlet’smodeto“ROCv™”toallowusewiththeoptionalROCv™module.WheninROCv™mode,thesystem
energizesanddeenergizestheauxiliary
outletbasedtheROCv™module’sLevelSensors’input.PressingtheAUXbutton
againwhileinROCv™modewillchangetheauxiliarymodeto“OFF.”
4. ThedefaultoperationoftheSTORM™moduleistomoni tortheLevelSensorinputandturnthepumponandoff
accordingly.Thisoperationcan
besuspendedbypressingthePAUSE/RESETbuttononce.The“MONITORING”and
“TOPPINGOFF”indicatorswillblinktoacknowledgethatthesystemispaused.Pressingthebuttonagainwillresume
normaloperation.Pressingandholdingthebuttonforthreesecondsorlongerwillmanuallyturnthepumponand
will
keepthepumprunninguntilthebuttonisreleased.
5. TheINCREASEandDECREASEbuttonsperformtwofunctionsdependinguponwhethertheyaredepressedindividuallyor
simultaneously.PressingeithertheINCREASEorDECREASEbuttonindividuallywillincrementordecrementthenumber
ofsecondsthatthepumpwillstayon
duringatopoffcycle.PressingtheINCREASEandDECREASEbuttonsatthesame
timewillentertheSTORM’s™veryusefulMintoMaxSetupmode,allowingthepump’sdurationofoperationtobeset
basedontheminimumandmaximu mdesiredwaterlevels. SeemoreintheOperationsectionthat
follows.
6. ThepowerswitchcanbeusedatanytimetoshutoffyourSTORM™systemandisequippedwithathermalcircuit
breakerthatwillautomaticallyshutdownthesystemifitdrawstoomuchcurrent.
Operation
Onceyou’veinstalledandfamiliarizedyourselfwithyourSTORM™topoffsystem,it’stimetoputittowork.YourSTORM™hastwo
operatingmodestochoosefromtosuityourneeds.
OperatingModeS1:
YourSTORM™isshippedtoyouinoperatingmodeS1.Wheninitiallypoweredon,the
STORM™beginsmonitoringthesumplevel
andaddswateraccordingly.Whenthe“Aquarium/Sump”LevelSensordetectsalowwaterlevelitwillturnthetopoffpumponfor
thespecifiednumberofseconds.IftheLevelSensorstilldetectsalowwaterlevelafterthenumberof
secondsspecified,itwill
beginanothercycle.However,ifafterthissecondattemptthewaterlevelisstillbelowtheLevelSensor,asasafetyfeaturethe
systemwillsuspendalltopofffunctions.OperatingModeS1allowslongerperiodsbetweentopoffcyclesandallowsyoutotailor
theamount
ofwateradded.
OperatingModeS2:
OperatingModeS2monitorsthewaterlevelinyouraquariumorsump andturnsthepumponuntilthe“Aquarium/Sump”Level
Sensordetectsthewaterlevelhasrisenbackuptotheoptimallevelthatyouhaveset.Insteadofusingthe
timesetastheduration
forthepumptobeturnedon,itusesthetimeyousetasa“timeout”function.Thesystemwillturnthetopoffpumponuntilthe
optimalwaterlevelisachievedoruntilthepumphasbeenonforthedurationset,whichever
comesfirst.Ifthepumphasbeenon
forthelengthoftimespecifiedbuttheSensorhasnotdetectedthatthewaterhasreachedtheoptimallevel,theSTORM™willshut
thepumpoffasasafetyfeatureandalerttheuserthatthereisaproblem.OperatingModeS2
usuallydecreasestheamountof
wateraddedwitheachcycleandthereforeincreasesthenumberoftimesthepumpisturnedoffinanygiventimeframe.
Eitheroperatingmodecanbeusedandispurelyamatterofpersonalpreference.Regardlessoftheoperatingmodeyouchoose,
yourSTORM™also
monitorsthewaterlevelinyourtopoffreservoir.Ifitdropsbelowthe“TopOffBin”LevelSensor,theSTORM™
willpausetopofffunctionstopreventyourpumpfromrunningdry.Itwillalsoletyouknowbyflashingthe“MONITORING”and
“BINLEVEL”indicators.
Youcanmanually
turnthetopoffpumponbysimplypressingandholdingthePAUSE/RESETbutton.Afterholdingforthree
secondsthepumpwillbeturnedonandwillremainonuntilyoureleasethePAUSE/RESETbutton.Thisisusefulifyourtopoff
reservoir’swaterlevelwasdepleted
andasignificantamountofwaterevaporatedfromyoursumpwhilenewwaterwasbeing
prepared.
IfyouhaveaProsystemoryou’veaddedaROCv™module,placetheSTORM™intheROCv™auxiliarymode.TheSTO RM™will
beginmonitoringtheROCv’s™LevelSensorsandwillautomaticallystartand
stopthewatersupplytoyourreverseosmosisfilter.
Otherwise,simplypresstheAUXbuttontotogglethepowertotheauxiliaryoutletonorofftocontrolanyperipheralsthatyouhave
pluggedin.
OperatingModeSetup
Tochangeoperatingmodes,simultaneouslydepressandholdtheAUXILIARYMODEandPAUSE/RESETbuttonsforfiveseconds.
Thedisplaywillflash“S1”or“S2,”dependingonwhichmodeyouarecurrentlyusing.Tochangetheoperatingmode,releasethe
AUXandPAUSE/RESETbuttonsandpresstheINCREASE
orDECREASEbuttonuntilthemodeyouchoosetouseisdisplayed.After
makingyourchoice,theselectedmodewillflashandOperationModeSetupisautomaticallycompleted.
MintoMaxSetupmode
YoucanmanuallyadjusttheoperationofyourSTORM ™toraisethewaterleveljusttherightamount inOper atingModeS1bytrial
anderror,butyourSTO RM™makesthistaskeasierwithitsveryusefulMintoMaxSetupmode.Thismodeallowsyoutoeasilyset
themaximum
desiredwaterlevelthatyouwantyoursumptobeatafteryourSTORM™performsatopoffcycle.Let’sassumethe
waterlevelinyoursumpisjustaboveorattheminimumdesiredlevel,andthe“Aquarium/Sump”LevelSensorisatthedesired
waterlevel:

InteractionwiththeGenesisRENEW™AutomaticWaterChangeSystem
YourSTORM™canbeconnectedtoaGenesisRENEW™AutomaticWaterChangeSystemtoallowbothunitstobeinstalledinan
aquariumsystemandworktogetherwithoutmanuallydisablingtheSTORM™.TheSTORM™willnotattempttotopoffthesumpor
aquariumanytimetheRENEW™unitis
activelyperformingawaterchangecycle.ThispreventstheSTORM™fromattemptingto
replacethewastesaltwaterremovedbytheRENEW™systemwithfreshwater.Doingsowouldadverselyaffectsalinityina
saltwateraquariumandcouldeventuallyresultinoverflowingthesumpineitherafreshwaterorsaltwateraquarium.When

solely responsible for evaluating the Genesis Reef Systems product and determining whether it is fit for a particular purpose and suitable for the user’s method of
application.
Limited Warranty
Genesis Reef Systems warrants for 6 months from the date of purchase that Genesis Reef Systems products will be free of defects in material and manufacture.
Genesis Reef Systems makes no other warranties, express or implied, including but not limited to, any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular
purpose. This limited warranty does not cover damage resulting from use or misuse of a Genesis Reef Systems product, workmanship in application, or application
or storage not in accordance with Genesis Reef Systems recommended procedures. This warranty does not apply to products not directly manufactured by Genesis
Reef Systems or consumable items that may degrade as part of normal use.
Limitation of
Remedies and

If the Genesis Reef Systems product is proved to be defective within the warranty period stated above the exclusive remedy, at Genesis Reef Systems’
option, shall be to refund the purchase price of or to repair or replace the defective Genesis Reef Systems product. Genesis Reef Systems shall not otherwise
