Product overview
About the H3C S5800 Switch Series
The H3C S5800 Switch Series is a line of Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet switching products intended for the
distribution and access layers of enterprise or metropolitan area networks. You can also use this switch
series to offer access to the server farms in a data center.
The H3C S5800 Switch Series offers the following benefits:
• 10-Gigabit uplinks and a wide range of features, including the routing features, IPv4 and IPv6 dual
stack, and H3C cluster management for streamlined network management.
• Innovative Intelligent Resilient Framework (IRF) technology, which can virtualize connected S5800
switches into one virtual switch for higher availability, scalability and resiliency, and manageability.
• Support for the H3C Open Application Architecture (OAA). You can install customized open
application platform (OAP) cards in your S5800 switch to provide services such as firewall,
anti-virus, IPS, and wireless access control.

Hardware compatibility matrix
Interface cards, OAP cards, PoE modules, power modules, and RPSs must be purchased separately.
When you purchase or install these components, check that they are compatible with the switch.
You must separately purchase two fan trays for the S5800-54S switch. All other S5800 switches come
with fixed fans or a fan tray installed.

• The logo plate is attached to the chassis with a rubber strip on its left. Rotate the logo plate within the
elasticity of the rubber strip. To avoid the rubber strip falling off or being broken, do not pull or rotate the
logo plate with excessive force.
• When closing the logo plate, insert the pin on the left of the logo plate into the fastening hole in the front
panel, rotate the logo plate inward until the tab on the right aligns with the fastening slot on the front
panel, and slightly press the logo plate until the tab clicks into the hole. If the tab is not fully engaged in
the fastening slot, make another try instead of pressing the logo plate with excessive force.
