Chapter 1 Product Overview
1.1 Overview
With the increase of Internet users and the development of the
services concerning video meeting and giant-size file transmission,
demands for network bandwidth keeps increasing. Optical fiber
transmission provides an effective way to address these issues.
Through combining the widely-used Ethernet technologies with the
passive optical network (PON) technologies, Ethernet passive optical
network (EPON) can provide sound solutions for
point-to-multiple-point accesses.
The EPON series products released by Hangzhou H3C
Technologies Co., Ltd. (H3C) include optical line terminals (OLT) and
optical network units (ONU). They can provide high bandwidth over a
distance of 10 km to 20 km, breaking through the limitations on
bandwidth and transmission distance and making the access solution
more flexible. Due to their large-scale coverage, these products
reduce the number of offices and meet the operators’ demand of using
fewer offices for larger capacity.
1.2 Introduction
Aolynk series ONU products are deployed on the user side of an
EPON system. When combined with IP voice modules and video
modules, they can provide data, telephone and video service
interfaces for users to implement fiber to the house (FTTH), fiber to the
building (FTTB), and major customers integrated access solutions.

I. FTTH
The OLT device is deployed in the central equipment room, and
ET204/ET204-L20 are installed in homes. They provide Ethernet ports
for users to access the network. The ONU devices are connected to
the OLT device through an optical splitter, which forms a
point-to-multiple-point topology, as shown in Figure 1-13.
