Origo™Air has been designed and manufactured to comply with EN12941: 1998 as a TH2P device
BS4275 (Guide to implementing an effective respiratory protective device programme), which the user
is advised to read, defines an EN12941 TH2P device as offering an Assigned Protection Factor of 20.
Origo™Air can only provide this level of protection when used with filters provided by the manufacturer
marked “Origo™Air by ESAB” and “EN12941:1998 TH2P”.
Origo™Air is manufactured under a BS EN ISO 9000 Quality System.
Limitations To Use:
This Respirator must be used strictly in accordance with this instruction leaflet and the instructions
supplied with corresponding head-units.
When the blower unit is switched off little or no respiratory protection is to be expected. When the blower unit
is switched off a rapid build up of carbon dioxide and depletion of oxygen within the head unit may occur.
DO NOT use Origo™Air with the blower unit switched off.
DO NOT use Origo™Air in an atmosphere that is immediately hazardous to user hygiene or health and
or has oxygen content of less than 19.5% or contains unknown substances
DO NOT expose the Origo™Air to flames and/or sparks.
DO NOT use Origo™Air in an explosive atmosphere.
DO NOT use Origo™Air in confined spaces or areas of poor ventilation.
DO NOT use Origo™Air in high winds.
DO NOT alter or modify in any way.
DO NOT touch any of the moving parts.
DO NOT allow water or other liquids to enter the Impeller Chamber I Volute, the Filter or Battery
Compartment.
There is a possibility that the hose to the head unit may become caught up in use. The blower unit
should be positioned on the person in such a way as to reduce this possibility.
Filters cannot be fitted directly to the head units and should not be adapted to do so. Correct respiratory
protection will not be provided if any parts of the equipment are modified.
At very high work rates the pressure in the device may become negative at peak inhalation flow. Origo™Air
systems are for use only by competent, trained personnel.
Filters should not be modified to fit different blower units.

The user is advised to leave the contaminated area immediately if:
The Manufacturer’s Minimum Design Flow (MMDF) warning Alarm sounds.
Breathing becomes difficult.
Dizziness or distress occurs.
Any part of the system becomes damaged.
Airflow into the Head-Unit decreases or stops.
Contaminant can be smelt or tasted inside the Head-Unit
Materials that may come into contact with the users skin are not known to cause allergic reactions to
the majority of individuals but in the unlikely event of a reaction, the user should immediately leave the
contaminated area, remove the unit and seek medical advice.
System Overview – Origo™Air:
The Origo™Air unit is a belt mounted powered respirator with a replaceable, disposable high efficiency
particle filter system.
The Origo™Air unit contains a removable 8hr rechargeable battery pack.
The Origo™Air unit will warn the user when the MMDF of 170 L/min, is reached with its audible alarm.
In operation once the alarm sounds, the user must immediately leave the work area and reach an area
nominated to be safe. The user should then replace the filter with a new undamaged one and then re
start the unit, if after a few seconds the alarm does not switch off, the user should re charge or change
the battery for a fully charged one. Only when the unit will function with the alarm switched off and the
flow rate has been tested to be acceptable, should the user return to the work place.
The linear pleated filter has been developed especially for this unit. It is used to filter the air the user will
breathe. It is essential that the user checks the foam seal on the base of the filter for any signs of damage
or deformation that could potentially let contaminated air into the unit. The filter must be disposed of if
the filter seal is damaged or if clogged to the point of triggering the systems alarm mechanism.
The removable rechargeable battery used is a Lithium Iron cell. When supplied the battery may hold a
small charge, the unit should be run flat and then charged for sixteen hours before the first use.

Waist-Belt Adjustment:
Put the belt around your waist and fasten the two ends together.
If the belt is too loose, slide the male adjuster down the belt, towards the female half. If the belt is too
tight. slide the male adjuster away from the female half.
Repeat the above processes until a comfortable and secure fit is achieved. (See Picture 1)
Once the belt fits correctly, secure any excess belt material using the Velcro sections.
Tighten
Particulate Filter:
Use only Origo™Air filters as supplied by ESAB. (See Picture 3).
It should first be ascertained by consulting an occupational hygienist or by calling the manufacturers
technical help line as to whether or not the Origo™Air Filter will offer suitable protection from the
hazard.
Removing the Filter:
Push the Filter-Housing down towards the body of the Blower Unit and apply a twisting force in a
Clock-Wise Direction (See Picture 4) It will now be possible to pull the filter away from the Unit.
Fitting the Filters:
First Check the filter for any signs of damage. In particular check for any signs of damage to the foam
seal on the base of the filter – it is essential that there is no visible damage or indentations in the seal
that could potentially let contaminated air through. If there are any signs of damage at all discard the
filter. Only undamaged filters should be used in the Origo™Air.
Then place the undamaged filter onto the blower unit aligning the red arrow on the filter with the arrow
in the top left hand corner of the blower - with a light twisting action, the filter will then engage on the
4 retention lugs (See Picture 5). It is essential that the filter is mounted correctly for the Origo™Air unit
to function. Then force the filter down towards the blower unit and apply a twisting force in an anti-
clockwise direction (See Picture 6) until the filter locks.

Starting the Blower-Unit:
Activate the Power-Switch at the side of the unit (See Picture 7) . Initially the alarm will sound until the
motor reaches a speed and achieves a flow rate greater than the MMDF.After a few seconds the alarm
will switch off and the unit is safe to be used.
If this does not occur, the unit may require recharging or a new filter fitting.
Checking the Airflow:
With the Blower-Unit running place the Flow-Test-Unit onto the Blower-Unit so that the sealing gasket
is securely gripping the Air Outlet. (See Pictures 8 & 9.) Check that the indicator lever rises above the
red fail and into green pass sector. (See Picture 10.)
Picture 8 Picture 9 Picture 10
Donning the Blower Unit:
Place belt around waist and fasten snap fit buckle. To adjust fit of belt pull free end away from the
Velcro fastening and pull through buckle. The belt should be tightened/loosened so that the blower unit
sits comfortably, usually at the small of the back. The free end of the belt should be flattened against
the Velcro fastening.
Attaching the Hose to the Blower Unit:
Align the pins of the Hose Bayonet connector (See Picture 11) with the bottom of the arrow on the air
outlet of the blower. Push the Bayonet connector into the blower until it reaches the bottom of the hole
and then twist in a clockwise direction (See Picture 12.) until the locating pins clips into place
(See Picture 13.)

Lift the helmet to it’s upper position. (See Picture 14)
Place over the head and adjust the headgear ratchet wheel by pushing it in and twisting until a satisfactory
tightness is achieved. (See Picture 15)
Pull the elasticated chin guard downwards and at the same time pull the helmet down. (See Picture 16)
The Welding helmet is now ready for use
Picture 14 Picture 15 Picture 16
Maintenance of Unit and Head Pieces:
The Blower unit, filter housing and head units must all be regularly cleaned to keep them in good work-
ing order.
For single users, the units can all be cleaned with a cloth moistened with luke warm water and soap.
For multiple users, the units should be disinfected when passed from one user to another. ESAB recom-
mends that ‘Incidur’ from Ecolad GmbH & Co. OHG is used for disinfecting.
Liquids must not be allowed to enter the workings of the blower unit or get on to the element of the filter.
Parts should be allowed to air dry. Under no circumstances should any solvents or abrasive cleaning
agents be used. The unit must not be dried using hot air or radiant heat.
The unit should continue to provide protection to the designed specification for 2 to 3 years, when main-
tained in accordance with these instructions. Prior to each use the user should check that the unit is free from
defects, such as cracks, split filters and hoses, cracked visors and helmet components as appropriate.
Storage and Transportation:
When not in use or during transportation the blower and head units should be stored in the container in
which they were provided, or other similar container, such that it is out of direct sunlight, not in contact
with solvents and cannot be damaged by physical contact with hard surfaces/items. Do not store outside
the temperature range of +0°C to +55°C or with humidity above 75%RH.
Removing and replacing the Battery:
To remove the battery, turn the unit over so that the filter is face down. Then depress the plunger at the
base of the battery and unclip it from the unit. (See Picture 17).
To replace the battery, place it into the cavity and slide it right to the back as far as it will go, then depress
the plunger (see Picture 17) and at the same time push the battery downwards snapping it into place.
