General safety guidelines
Please always observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of injury
and property damage.
Service
Please do not attempt to service a product yourself unless instructed to
do so by the Customer Support Center. Please only allow the authorized
service provider to repair your products.
Heat and product ventilation
Computers, AC power adapters and many accessories will generate heat
in service and when batteries are charging. Please always follow the basic
precautions below:

Chapter 1. About the Lenovo USB Ultra
Slim DVD Burner
This chapter provides product description and instructions for the Lenovo
USB Ultra Slim DVD Burner DB80 (hereafter referred to as the drive).
Product description
Lenovo USB Ultra Slim DVD Burner DB80 is a portable DVD and CD
recording drive. It can be easily connected to the USB 2.0 interface or
above of your computer through a USB cable. This drive conforms to
industry standard specifications for CD-R, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-R,
DVD-R (dual layer), DVD-RAM, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+R (dual
layer), and DVD+RW media.

Control location
The following figure shows the locations of the controls on the drive.
Disc tray
Used to fix the medium with the label facing up in the disc tray.
Note: Press the CD/DVD medium down until it clicks into place and
is secured in the center.
LED indicator
The LED indicates the status of the drive.
LED is flashing: indicates that the drive is in reading or writing
operations.
LED is off: indicates that the drive is not in reading or writing operations.

Eject button
Press this button to open the disc tray.
Note: An electrical locking mechanism is used in the drive so
that the disc tray won’t be opened erroneously during the writing
process. Make sure that the power is on and the drive is not in
operation before pressing the Eject button to open the disc tray. If
the disc tray cannot be opened when you press the Eject button, or
if the disc tray needs to be opened when the power is not supplied
from the USB cable, use the emergency ejecting hole
in the front
panel of the drive.
Check that nothing is placed in front of the disc tray when ejecting.
Emergency ejecting hole
The emergency ejecting hole is used for ejecting the medium in the
event of an emergency when the drive is powered off. Insert a paper
clip into the emergency ejecting hole to open the disc tray.
USB 2.0 Mini B receptacle connector
Used to connect the USB cable.

To use this drive, your computer must meet the following requirements:

Chapter 2. Using the drive
This chapter provides information on setting up the drive for use.
Connecting the drive
This topic provides instructions on connecting the drive to your computer
with the provided USB cable.
To connect the drive to your computer, please follow the steps below:
1. Turn on your computer.
2. Connect the USB connector
of the USB cable to your computer.
Note: if the user provides the USB cable, please follow the steps below:
1. Connect the USB connector
of the USB cable to your computer.
2. Connect the USB Mini B connector
of the USB cable to the USB 2.0
Mini B receptacle connector on the drive.

Loading the media
To load the media into the disc tray of the drive, please follow the steps
below:
1. Press the Eject button of the drive to open the disc tray.
2. Place the medium on the tray with the label facing upward. Align the
center hole of the medium with the clamp at the center of the tray and
securely fit the medium in by pressing the outer vicinity of the center hole.
3. Gently close the disc tray and push the disc tray in until it is completely
locked.
4. The LED indicator will glitter if the medium is correctly loaded and
recognized by the drive.

Removing the drive
Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating systems have
built-in drivers for USB DVD burner. When the drive is connected,
Windows will automatically install the appropriate driver and the drive will
be ready for use. You do not have to perform any special installation or
removal procedures. However, to avoid any data error, it is recommended
that you remove the drive from your system by performing the following
procedures.
1. Exit the program that uses the drive.
2. Make sure that the LED indicator of the drive is off.
3. Click the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the system tray.
4. Select the name of the drive to remove. The Safe to Remove Hardware
confirmation window opens.
Note: The confirmation window message indicated above may differ
depending on the versions of your operating system. Please refer to the
instruction manual of your computer or operating system for details.
5. Click “OK”. The drive is safely removed from the system.
6. Remove the USB data cable from the USB connector of the computer.

Cleaning the drive
Wipe off the dust with a soft cloth. If the dust is persistent, use a cloth
dampened with a diluted neutral detergent after squeezing all the water
out. If liquid is allowed into the drive, it may cause a serious malfunction,
an electric shock or a fire. When cleaning with liquid, make sure to
disconnect the drive from your computer before removing the USB
connecting cable from the drive. Do not apply solvents such as benzene
or thinner. Chemical cleaners for home or industrial use may damage the
coating of the drive.
