operatedunlesstheflamedeflectorisinplace.
Theflamedeflectorisavailableinsingleanddoublesidedoptions.Pleaserefertothe
picturesbelow.

BEFOREINSTALLATION
Important:
Thedowndraftcanonlybeusedforventingexhaustgasandfumesoutside,andisnotsuitable
forrecirculating.
Theintakeshouldnotbepositionednexttogasapplianceswithoutspecialprecautions.
TheDowndraftisnotafireratedappliance.
Itssurroundingsurfacesmustnotexceed80degreescentigrade.
FlamemustneverbeallowedtoentertheintaketotheDowndraft.
Neverputahandorotherobjectintotheairintakeorexhaustofmotorunitwhenthepower
isconnected.
DUCTINGREQUIREMENTS
GeneralDuctingRequirements
Ductingcomponentsrequiredtoducttheexhaustairtotheoutside
Onlyuseductingsuitablefortheventingofkitchenexhaustgasandfumes.ParmcoAppliances
haveacomprehensiverangeofductingcomponentsavailable.
Foroptimumefficiency,ensuretheuseof:
shortsmoothexhaustpipe
asfewpipebendsaspossible
pipediametersof150mm
Thereshallbeadequateventilationoftheroomwhentherangehoodisusedatthesametime
asappliancesburninggasorotherfuels(notapplicabletoappliancesthatonlydischargetheair
backintotheroom).
Asaruleofthumb,each90degreebendisequivalenttoabout5metresofsmoothbore
ducting.Flexibleductingorductingthatdoesnothaveasmoothboreshouldbeusedwithcare
duetotheadverseeffectonairflowperformance.
Foroptimumefficiency,totalductinglengthincludingbendsandallowanceforductingnot
havingasmoothboreshouldnotbemorethantheequivalentof15metresof150mmdiameter
orlargerdiameterducting.

ReturnAirFlow
TheParmcoDowndraftisdesignedtoremovelargeamountsofairfromthekitchen.Foritto
operateefficiently,airmustbeallowedtoenterthekitchenareafromtheoutside.
Insomesituations,additionalductingmayhavetobeinstalledtoallowtheflowofthisReturn
Airbackintothekitchen.
SpecialRequirements
Theexhaustairmustnotbedischargedintoanoperatingsmokeorexhaustflue,orintoashaft
usedforventilatingroomsinwhichfireplacesarelocated.Theairmustnotbedischargedintoa
fluethatisusedfor
exhaustingfumesfromappliancesburninggasorotherfuels(notapplicable
toappliancesthatonlydischargetheairbackintotheroom).
Therequirementsoftheauthoritiesconcernedhavetobeobservedfordischargingairthrough
smokeorexhaustfluesnotinuse.
WhentheDowndraftisoperated
atthesametimeaschimneydependentfireinstallationsare
used(eg.gas,oilorcoalfiredheatingsystems,continuousheatersorhotwaterboilers)
provisionmustbemadeforanadequatesupplyofairwhichthefireinstallationsrequirefor
combustion.
Harmlessoperationispossibleiftheunderpressureintheroomwherethefireplaceis
installeddoesnotexceed4Pa(0.04mbar).
Thiscanbeachievedifthecombustionaircanflowthroughnonclosableopeningssuch
asindoors,windows,intake/exhaustwallboxes.
NOTE:Inassessingthispossibility,theentirecombinedventilationofthehomemustbetaken
intoconsideration.Thisruledoesnotapplyforoperationofcookingappliancessuchascooking
topsandgascookers.
Thepertinentregulationsorguidelinesofthecountrymustbeobserved.


MOTORMOUNTING
Benchmountunits(Inbench,sideriserandrearriser)
Themotorcanbepositionedoneithersideoftheairboxwiththeoutlettotherearorfacing
downwards.
InWallunits
Themotormustbemountedremotefromtheairbox/airintake.RefertoTechnicalsectionof
thismanualforvariousoptions.
Ductingisrequiredfromtheairboxtothemotor,anddischargedtotheoutsideatthemost
convenientpoint.
INSTALLATION
INBENCHWITHOUTCONTROLS
GeneralInstructions
Theairboxissymmetricalandcanbemountedwiththemotoroneitherside.
Theairboxisdesignedtobesupportedatthesides,andthreemountingholesareavailableon
eachside.
TheintakemustnotbenexttoagashobunlesstheGasFlameDeflectorisusedwhenthe
Downdraftisbeingoperated.
SpecificElectricalRequirements
TheDowndraftunitcanbeoperatedthroughasimpleon/offswitchinthewallabovetheunitand
a3pinsocketunderthebenchtogetpowersupplytothemotorORavariablecontrolsuchasfan
dimmerinthewallanda3pinsocketunderthebench.

CutoutfortheInBenchDowndraftwithoutControlsshouldbe410mmx85mm.
DetailedInstructions
CentretheDowndraftpositionalongsidethehob.Markthepositiononthebenchtopandcut
out.
Theairboxissymmetrical,andshouldbeinstalledwiththemotorholeontherequiredside.
Installtheairboxinthecutoutandsecurewiththescrewsprovided.
Fitthesurroundontopoftheairboxandsecuretotheairboxwiththescrewsprovided.
Mount
theMotoronthesideofthe airboxanddoupthe4nutsworkingdownthroughthetop
oftheDowndraftensuringtheairsealiscomplete.
FittheexhaustDuctingeithertotherearoutthewallordownthroughthefloor.

TheDowndraftcanbeinstalledwiththemotormountedremote(inanotherposition)using
Parmco’smountingandductingaccessories.
IftheMotorismountedremotely,apowersupplyfromthecontrolswitchisrequiredatthat

PlugtheDowndraftMotorintothesocketonthespeedcontrollerandthePowerleadintothe
poweroutlet.

ParmcoRiserDowndraft.
ForModelP2R3SSensureifanyairintakeisnotinuse,itmustbecovered

intakeisataminimumheightof150mmabovethehobtopreventthegasflamebeingdrawn
intotheintake.Foroptimumperformanceinstallhigher,asabove.
Wheninstalledbehindanelectrichob,theairboxshouldbeinstalledasforgasbut,canbe
positionedsothatthebottomoftheintakesurroundisatbenchlevel.Howeverforoptimum
performanceitshouldbeinstalled250300mmabovethebench.
TheairboxshouldbeconnectedtothemotorusingSupertubeandalljointssealedwithduct
tapetopreventairleaks.
ToinstallSupertubethewallnogginsordwangswillneedtobecheckedout60mmtoallow
flushfittingbeforethewallliningisfitted.Alternatively,thenogscanberemovedandthe
airboxcanbeframed
asforawindowandductingcanbemountedbetween“jack”studs.
DuctingrequiredforthisunitisSupertubeandmustbesealedtotheairboxusingParmco
ducttape.EnsurethatalljoinsinthesuctionsideoftheMotoraresealed.
Ifitisnecessarytouse
flexiductinthisconnection,careshouldbetakennottodamageorcut
theflexiductinsidethewall.
Thewallliningfitsinbehindtheflangeonthefrontoftheairbox.
Ductingfromwallductingtothemotorcanthenbeinstalledensuringalljointsaresealed.
Ifasplashbackistobeinstalled,theGrille&Surroundwillneedtobecutintothesplashback
andtheSurroundshouldbesuppliedbeforethecutismade.
