Xerox 4045 Printer

This appendix describes the features and fonts available for the

Xerox 4045 printer.

Features The Xerox 4045 printer features:

Downloaded or cartridge fonts. All fonts must be purchased

through Xerox.

Printer resident memory for graphics and font downloading.

The user may purchase a variable amount of memory for the

Xerox 4045; we recommend the maximum for use with fonts

and graphics.

Before using cartridge fonts, you must inform CliqPage through

the font downloading scripts. See Appendix A in this manual for

details. This downloading/informing must be done for each font

and pointsize you plan to use. It is recommended that a script be

set up for every font and pointsize in the cartridge.

If you have purchased fonts in disk form from Xerox, they should

be loaded into the /xerox/raster directory within the fonts sub-

directory. Do not change the names of the original Xerox files.

The Xerox fonts are in MS-DOS format. Depending on your

computer system, a number of programs are available for direct

reading and/or transmittal of the data. Then download the needed

fonts to the printer.

Limitations Please note that additional special characters listed in Appendix C

may not be available.

Only characters present in the Xerox fonts can be printed with

CliqPage.

There is a limit of seven fonts per page on the Xerox 4045. The

printer’s memory is shared among downloaded fonts and graphics.

Graphics The Xerox 4045 can handle integrated text and graphics.

The amount of memory available for graphics depends on the

amount purchased with the machine and how much has been used

for downloaded fonts.

A total of six graphics may be used on a page of output.

The Xerox 4045 printer cannot produce shades or patterns and the

printer ignores these commands.

Margins

When laser printers print close to the edge of the paper, print den-

sity can become unreliable. Therefore, it is recommended that all

margins be a minimum of one half inch.
