Fractions Flash Cards are two cards in one! Use the cards with the Hot Dots

®

pen (sold separately) for independent review and practice of fractions, or use the cards by

themselves as traditional ﬂash cards. This set provides practice in identifying fractions as

part of a whole or a group, comparing fractions, and recognizing equivalent fractions.

Using the Cards with the Hot Dots

Pen

Independent practice is easy with Hot Dots

®

Flash Cards and the pen. First, read the

problem (for example, “Find the missing sign.”) and look at the corresponding picture.

Then look at the answer choices. Use the pen to select the correct answer. The pen gives

instant feedback. When a correct answer is selected, the pen lights up and makes one of

several fun, congratulatory sounds. If an incorrect answer is selected, the pen provides

encouraging words.

Demonstrate how to use the pen with the Hot Dots

®

Flash Cards before learners work

independently. Show how to position the pen on a Hot Dot answer choice. Make sure the

tip of the pen touches the center of the dot below the answer, and that it sits ﬂat on the

surface of the Hot Dot.

TIPS

• Do NOT laminate the cards. The pen cannot detect correct and incorrect answers when

cards are laminated.

• Make sure the cards rest on a hard surface, such as a tabletop, when using the pen

on them.

How to Position the Hot Dots

®

Pen

Make sure the tip of the Hot Dots pen sits ﬂat on the surface of the answer dot as

shown above.

Using the Cards as Traditional Activity Cards

Hold up a card with the question facing the child. Have the child read the problem (for

example, “Which fraction is greater?”) and then say the answer. Check answers on the

included answer sheet.
