operating costs the Unit features a large filter of 14" x 18", which reduces the frequency of filter
replacements. A differential pressure gauge indicates the filter status.
2. Description
2.1 Operating Elements and Construction
Main Switch (Foot Switch)
A foot switch is used to turn the filter unit on and off. This switch needs to be located as far away
from the filter unit as possible.
Filter Monitor
Differential Pressure Gauge (Filter Monitor)
The differential pressure gauge monitors the filter condition by measuring the pressure
difference (pressure drop) between upstream and downstream of the particulate filters. As filter
saturation increases, the pressure drop increases and the airflow decreases.
When the pressure drop reaches a predefined level, filter maintenance should be performed.
This is generally the point where airflow is inadequate.
Gas Phase Monitor
There is no filter monitoring system for the gas phase filter installed in this model. The
monitoring of the exhaust air according to Indoor Air Quality Standards remains the responsibility
of the operator. Please refer to Gas Phase Filter Monitoring.

Air Filtration System
2.2 Theory of Operations
The Loctite
®
Air Filtration System removes airborne contaminate by extracting air close to the
source of particulate and vapors. The air is collected by a funnel-shaped nozzle or hood and
routed, through hose or duct, to the filter unit.
Filtering is accomplished in stages:
The pleated prefilter removes coarse particles such as dust. Optional HEPA filter available.
The activated carbon filter absorbs gases and odors.
The afterfilter mat removes dust particles from the gas phase filter media.
After the air is filtered it is directed out the exhaust vent at bottom of the Unit.
2.3 Filtering Method
The contaminated air is drawn into the filter unit and passes through a combination of filters.
Filtration is accomplished in three stages:
The pleated prefilter removes coarse particles such as dust.
The gas phase filter absorbs gases and odors. The efficiency and lifetime of the gas phase filter
depends on a range of variables, which are, among others, flow-rate, temperature, humidity,
concentration levels, etc.
An afterfilter, located downstream, removes dust particles from the gas phase filter media.
For the removal of gases, which exceed OSHA, established TEL-values upstream of the filter
unit, the efficiency and lifespan of the gas phase filter need to be established and monitored.

2. Description (continued)
Gas Phase Filter Monitoring
Loctite recommends two different ways for maintaining and monitoring gas phase filters,
depending on the application and purpose of the gas phase filter:
A) For the removal of odors as a nuisance only and for gases not exceeding the TEL-values
established by OSHA upstream (at air inlet):
Replace the filter media in any of the following cases:
As soon as odors becomes noticeable.
At least every 6 months, as most gas phase filter media achieve saturation by adsorbing
moisture from ambient air.
B) For toxic gases which do exceed TEL-values established by OSHA upstream of the filter
unit (at air inlet):
Establish the lifespan of the filter media depending on the local site conditions.
Monitor the lifespan of the filter media.
Replace the filter media as soon as the lifetime of the filter media is reached.
The lifetime of the gas phase filter can be determined by initial periodical testing of the exhausted
air for contamination. The lifetime is measured in operating hours until breakthrough occurs. An
optional way is a laboratory evaluation of the spent gas phase filter media after a certain time
period. For further information, contact our customer service department.
2.4 Thermal Overload Protection
The filter unit motor is equipped with factory installed automatic thermal overload
protection. In case of overheating, the motor is automatically turned off, preventing
premature burnout of the motor windings.
Caution!
Motor may start up automatically the automatic thermal overload protection will turn the motor
on automatically as soon as the motors cools down again.
Overheating of the motor can result from the following:
Saturated filter An accumulation of contaminates clogs the filter and the air volume decreases.
This results in insufficient air available for cooling, and therefore overheating results.
SOLUTION: Change filter inserts regularly!
Blocked Flow Insufficient air volume due to other reasons, such as a bent connection hose or
foreign matter obstructing the airflow.
SOLUTION: Straighten hoses and check air passage for foreign material.

from the foot switch, to wall outlet. Plug the filter systems power cord (3-prong plug) into the
receptacle of the series plug.
The Loctite
®
Air Filtration System is ready to be turned on.
5.1 Filter Unit
The filter unit does not need any special maintenance, except for filter replacement as
described below.
The installed motor is a brushless type and made for continuous use. To protect the motor in an
overload situation, the motor is equipped with a thermal overload protection as described on
page 4.
5.2 Filter Replacement
As the filter insert becomes increasingly saturated, the exhaust capacity of the Unit decreases.
When the pressure gauge reaches a factory preset level (red mark), the airflow approaches a
minimum and filters should be replaced.
Filter Replacement Procedure:
Caution! Fire Hazard:
The gas phase filter media may be saturated with flammable substance. Do not handle or replace
filter while smoking or in close distance to any open flame.
To replace the filters:
Turn the Unit off and disconnect from main power source.
Open the Unit's top cover by releasing the four latches and removing the lid.
Remove pleated prefilter (or optional HEPA filter).
Remove activated carbon tray. Empty the filter tray by pouring the saturated filter media into a
waste container.
Dispose of carbon tray filter mat.
Caution! Used filter media may contain toxic or flammable substances.
Observe relevant codes for safety and local hazard’s material disposal.
Install the white mat on the bottom of the metal carbon filter tray.
Fill the carbon tray with activated carbon. The activated carbon is supplied in a separate bag.
Note:
The bulk carbon contains a certain amount of dust which is created during transport and handling
by the pellets rubbing against each other. Therefore, you will see dust escaping during the refilling
process. Please make sure the operator wears the appropriate protective mask. The Loctite
®
Air
Filtration System is equipped with an afterfilter mat. We recommend leaving the old afterfilter mat
in place after the carbon has been replaced and replace it only after the Unit has been in
operation for 10 to 15 minutes. After that time, or if you notice a substantial reduction in the
airflow, you should change the afterfilter. This insures that the carbon dust from the refill will be
collected in the old filter and not lower the airflow of the new filter set.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning
Install carbon tray into Unit.
Install pleated prefilter.
Install the Units top cover and secure the four latches.
Attach a flexible hose to the air inlet port(s) on the lid. If the some of the ports are not being
used, keep them closed with a blind cover.
Attach the other end of the hose to a suction nozzle, exhaust arm, or matching duct.
Assure that all duct and hose connections are airtight. Leakage will result in decreased
performance.
External on/off foot switch: Connect the series plug, which is attached to the power cord coming
from the foot switch, to wall outlet. Plug the filter systems power cord (3-prong plug) into the
receptacle of the series plug.
The Loctite
