2 Safety instructions
The device described is a subcomponent for integration into a system
- The manufacturer is responsible for the safety of the system
- The system manufacturer undertakes to perform a risk assessment and to
create a documentation in accordance with legal and normative requirements
to be provided to the operator and user of the system This documentation
must contain all necessary information and safety instructions for the operator,
the user and, if applicable, for any service personnel authorised by the
manufacturer of the system
Read this document before setting up the product and keep it during the entire
service life
The product must be suitable for the corresponding applications and
environmental conditions without any restrictions
Only use the product for its intended purpose (→ 3 Functions and features).
If the operating instructions or the technical data are not adhered to, personal
injury and/or damage to property may occur
The manufacturer assumes no liability or warranty for any consequences
caused by tampering with the product or incorrect use by the operator
4
Installation, electrical connection, set-up, programming, configuration, operation
and maintenance of the product must be carried out by personnel qualified and
authorised for the respective activity
Protect units and cables against damage
3 Functions and features
The encoder converts rotary movements into digital numerical values Each
angular position of the revolutions is provided as a numerical value
These values allow angular movements to be measured and positions to be
determined
Because of the requirements for electromagnetic interference emissions, the
device is intended for use in industrial environments The device is not suitable for
use in domestic areas
4 Installation
Disconnect power
Ensure that the machine stands still
The drive must not be started during installation
Do not hit the shaft; do not use a file or similar tool on the shaft: risk of
destruction
Keep potential interfering sources (magnets, heat sources etc.) at a distance.
This product is a precision measuring device Therefore it has to be handled with
care by trained staff The following warnings apply to influences outside the limit
values indicated in the product data sheet
Damage to the product can be caused by:
too high forces on the shaft
humidity and chemical liquids (do not connect any cables oriented upwards)
extreme temperatures
too high vibrations and shocks
short circuit or too high an operating voltage
impact, shock or any other physical forces

Minimise the displacement between the two shafts
6
Avoid the following mistakes:
- radial displacement
- angular displacement
- axial movement
To minimise the forces on the shaft use a flexible shaft coupling with guiding
slot for the installation
4.1.3 Type with hollow shaft
Version with one stator coupling Version with two stator couplings
1: Angle bracket
Verify the radial displacement after installation and with slow rotation
The displacement must not be larger than 05 mm since otherwise the life cycle of
the encoder may be shortened or the system accuracy impaired

5 Electrical connection
Disconnect power
Connect the IO-Link device via the M12 socket to an IO-Link master
(18…30 V DC PELV; according to DIN EN50178, secondary circuit with maximum
30 V DC).
- Tightening torque: 0608 Nm
- Recommended maximum cable length: according to IO-Link specification 113
To connect the device, use M12 connectors with protection rating IP 65 / IP 66 /
IP 67 or higher

6 Function
6.1 IO-Link
This unit has an IO-Link communication interface which enables direct access to
process and diagnostic data In addition it is possible to set the parameters of the
unit while it is in operation Operation of the unit via the IO-Link interface requires
an IO-Link master
With a PC, suitable IO-Link software and an IO-Link adapter cable, communication
is possible while the system is not in operation
The IODDs necessary for the configuration of the unit, detailed information about
process data structure, diagnostic information, parameter addresses and the
necessary information about the required IO-Link hardware and software can be
found at wwwifmcom
The IO-Link interface provides the following (additional) functions using suitable
hardware and software:
Remote parameter setting of the unit
Noise-immune signal transmission without measured value losses
Transmission of the parameter settings to a replaced sensor or to other
sensors of the same type
Simultaneous reading of all process values and the binary switching signals
Comprehensive display of error and event messages
Management of device tags
Evaluation of the process values and diagnostic data via IO-Link master
Paperless logging of parameter sets, process values and diagnostic information

6.2 Switching function rotational speed
SSC2x changes its switching state if it is above or below the set switching limits
(SP1, SP2).
First set the set point (SP1), then the reset point (SP2).
The resulting hysteresis remains even if SP1 is changed again
Window function / normally open: [SSC2x] = [Fno]
Window function / normally closed: [SSC2x] = [Fnc]
The width of the window [FE] can be set by means of the difference between
SSC21 and SSC22
SP1 = upper value, SP2 = lower value

7 Parameter setting
Parameters can be set before installation and set-up of the unit or during operation
via the IO-Link interface
If parameters are changed during operation, this will influence the function
of the plant
Ensure that there will be no malfunctions in your plant
During parameter setting the unit remains in the operating mode It continues
to monitor with the existing parameter until the parameter setting has been
completed
Connect the unit to a parameter setting software via suitable hardware
Set the parameters
