Wireless Portable Speaker can communicate with other Bluetooth devices within a range of
approximately 10 meters (33 feet).

Using Your Portable Speaker
Charging Your Portable Speaker
First-Time Use - Before you can use your portable speaker, charge its self-contained
battery for two hours.
Recharging - When you hear five rapid high tones through the portable speaker, repeated
at 20-second intervals, the speaker battery needs recharging.
Over time, batteries gradually wear down and require longer charging times. This is
normal. The more you use the portable speaker with your phone, the less standby time your
battery has.
Warning: Never dispose of batteries in a fire because they may explode.
The rechargeable batteries that power this product must be disposed of
properly and may need to be recycled. Contact your local recycling
center for proper disposal methods.
8
1 Plug the Motorola charger into the speaker, with the charger's release tab facing up, and
the speaker facing up
2 Plug the other end of the charger into an electrical outlet.
During charging, the mute button indicator turns on and remains on until charging is
complete. The speaker will function while charging. Your portable speaker requires
approximately two hours to receive a full charge.
1. If the battery power is extremely low, it may take up to 30 seconds for the LED to turn on.
3 When charging is complete (mute indicator is off), remove the charger from the electrical
outlet, press the release tab, and detach the charger from the speaker.
A fully charged battery provides approximately:
• 5 hours talk time
• 100 hours standby time
9
Notes:
• You can use either a Motorola Original Wall Charger or Motorola Original Vehicle
Power Adapter to charge the speaker.
• The speaker will function with the charger connected, and charging will occur.
However, the mute indicator will not reflect the charge status
10
Using the Portable Speaker in a Vehicle
Placing the Portable Speaker on a Visor

using the carry case with the belt/visor clip.
1 Insert the portable speaker into the holster.
2 Mount the holster to your vehicle's sun visor directly above your mouth.
3 Point the microphone toward your mouth.
4 Remove the speaker from your visor when charging.
Note: Do not leave the HF820 in a hot vehicle for any extended period of time.
Wearing the Portable Speaker
In the Holster

1 Insert the portable speaker into the holster.
2 Use the belt clip to wear the unit on your belt or other convenient location.
On a lanyard
1 Place a lanyard around the lanyard loop on the top of the unit.
2 Loop the lanyard around your neck.
3 Point the microphone toward your mouth.
11
Turning the Portable Speaker On and Off
Press the volume button to turn the portable speaker on.
Press and hold the volume button for 2-3 seconds to turn the portable speaker off.
12
Using the Portable Speaker with a
Headset
You can plug an extra headset into your wireless portable speaker.
Pairing Your Portable Speaker and Phone
Note: You must pair your portable speaker and phone before you can make a call.
"Pairing" creates a link between devices with Bluetooth
®
wireless technology, and allows
the phone to remember the portable speaker's unique ID. When your speaker and phone are
paired, the speaker automatically connects to the phone*(some phones do not support this
feature).
13
With the portable speaker and phone in close proximity:
1 Press the volume button once to put the speaker into pairing mode.
The speaker indicator LED illuminates.
2 Initiate the pairing sequence using handsfree mode if available.
The speaker may also be paired in headset mode if handsfree mode is not available.
3 Perform a device discovery from the phone. For details on device discovery for your
phone, refer to the phone 's user's guide.
When the scan is complete, the phone displays the devices found.
4 Select the Motorola HF820 from the discovered devices list, and confirm following the
onscreen prompts.
5 When prompted by the phone, enter the passkey 0000, and confirm to pair the speaker
with the phone.
The device ID is now stored in the phone's memory.
Pairing is successful when the MFB indicator flashes 10 times rapidly
