Pull the strap tight so that it does not come loose.
This camera allows you to take pictures without using an optional
xD-Picture Card (hereinafter called the card). For details on inserting
the card, please refer to the Advanced Manual.

Turn the camera on
This explains how to turn on the camera in shooting mode.
a. Set the mode dial to h.
Still picture shooting modes
b. Press the o button.
To turn on the camera, press the o button after removing the
lens cap.
To turn off the camera, press the o button once again.
h This function allows you to take pictures with full automatic settings.
P The camera automatically sets the optimum aperture value and shutter
speed.
A This function allows you to change the aperture manually.
S This function changes the shutter speed for shooting pictures.
M This function allows you to change the aperture and shutter speed
manually.
r This function allows you to set each shooting function manually and use
as your original shooting mode.
g This function allows you to set the target items by following the shooting
guide displayed on the screen.
SCN This function allows you to shoot pictures by selecting a scene
according to the shooting condition.

Basic operation
While in shooting mode, use these buttons for quick access to some of the more
commonly used features.
1 # button (Flash pop-up)
Opens the flash. Press this button to take a picture with flash.
2 u button (Monitor/Viewfinder)
Toggles between the monitor and viewfinder.
3 h button (Digital image stabilization)
Switches over the digital image stabilization mode between [OFF] and [ON].
4 m button (MENU)
Displays the top menu.
5 DISP./E button
Displays the composition guide lines and histogram. With menu items
selected, hold down this button to display the menu guide.
6 q button
Quickly displays the last image taken.
7 4& button (Macro mode)
Use macro or super macro mode when taking close-up pictures such as of a
flower.
8 1 F button (Exposure compensation)
Use this setting to overexpose (+) or underexpose (-) a picture.
9 3#button (Flash mode)
Select from 6 flash modes - Auto, Red-eye reduction, Fill-in flash, Red-eye
fill-in, Slow flash or Flash off.
0 2Y button (Self-timer)
Use this setting to take a picture with the self-timer. Select the length of the
time to delay the shot.
a o button (OK/FUNC)
Displays the function menu and sets the functions often used in shooting
mode. Also confirms and sets your selection of menu items.

This function allows you to switch SCN (Scene mode) according to the subject.
1 Set the mode dial to SCN.
2 Press 12 to select a scene mode, and press o.
Shooting SCN (Scene) Modes
& This mode lets you take pictures as close as 10 cm/3.94 in. to your subject
(when the optical zoom is at the greatest wide-angle).
% Use this mode to take pictures as close as 1 cm/0.39 in. to your subject. In
% mode, the position of the zoom lens is fixed.
1 Press 4&.
2 Press 12 to select [&] or [%] and press o.

1 Press 2Y.
2 Press 12 to select [Y12 SEC] or [Y2
SEC], and press o.
3 Press the shutter button completely to take
the picture.
1 Press#(Flash pop-up) to open the flash.
2 Press 3#. Press 12 to select the flash mode, and press o.
3 Press the shutter button halfway.
When the flash is set to fire, the # mark lights.
4 Press the shutter button completely to take the picture.
To save battery power, the camera automatically enters sleep mode
and stops operating if not used for 3 minutes in shooting mode. Press
the shutter button or turn the zoom lever to reactivate the camera.
If the camera is not operated for 12 minutes after the camera enters
sleep mode, it automatically retracts the lens and turns off. To resume
operation, turn on the power again.
Y12 SEC The self-timer lamp lights for
approximately 10 seconds, then
starts blinking.
After blinking for approximately 2
seconds, the picture is taken.
Y2 SEC The self-timer lamp blinks for 2
seconds, then the picture is
taken.

AUTO
Auto flash The flash fires automatically in low light or backlight
condition.

Red-eye
reduction flash
Emits pre-flashes for red-eye reduction.
# Fill-in flash The flash fires regardless of the available light.

Red-eye fill-in
flash
The flash always fires after pre-flashes for red-eye
reduction are emitted.
#SLOW Slow flash The flash fires with slow speed.
$ Flash off The flash does not fire even in low light conditions.

Menus and setting
1 Press m to display the top menu.
2 Use the arrow pad (124 3) to select menu items, and press o
to set them.
IMAGE QUALITY
Set the image quality of the picture you will shoot according to its intended
purpose.
RESET
Return the changed shooting functions back to default settings.
CAMERA MENU
Adjust various shooting settings.
SETUP
Set the date, time, language, and operation sound, etc.
SCN (Scene)
Select the scene according to the subject and shooting condition when the
SCN mode is selected.
SILENT MODE
Set to turn off the operational sounds that occur during shooting and
playback, warning beeps, shutter sounds, etc.
1 From the top menu of playback mode,
press m and select [ERASE] [ALL
ERASE], and press o.
2 Select [YES] and press o.
All the pictures are erased.

Connecting the camera
Use the AV cable provided with the camera to playback recorded images on your
TV. Both still pictures and movies can be played back.
1 Make sure that the TV and camera are turned off. Connect the
multi-connector on the camera to the video input terminal on the TV
using the AV cable.
2 Turn the TV on and set it to the video input mode.
For details of switching to video input, refer to your TV’s
instruction manual.
3 Set the mode dial to q, and press o to turn the camera on.
The last picture taken is displayed on the TV. Use the arrow pad
(124 3) to select the picture you want to display.

Using the provided USB cable, you may connect your camera directly to a
PictBridge compatible printer to make prints. You can print a picture with simple
operations.
1 In playback mode, display the picture you want to print out on the
monitor.
2 Connect one end of the provided USB cable into the camera’s
multi-connector and the other end into the printer’s USB connector.
3 Press q.
Printing starts.
When printing is finished, disconnect
the USB cable from the camera with the
picture selection screen displayed.

Transfer images
a. Install the software
1 Insert the OLYMPUS Master CD-ROM.
3 Simply follow the on-screen instructions.
b. Connect the camera to the computer
1 Connect the camera and computer using the USB cable (provided).
The monitor will turn on automatically.
2 Select [PC] on the monitor, and press o.
Your PC will now recognize your camera
as a removable storage drive.
2 Windows : Click the “OLYMPUS Master
2” button.
Macintosh : Double-click the “Setup” icon.

c. Transfer images to the computer
1 With the camera now connected, open OLYMPUS Master.
2 Click “Transfer Images” on the browse
window, and then click “From Camera” .
3 Simply follow the on-screen instructions.

refer to the camera’s “Advanced Manual” provided on CD-ROM.
For additional assistance, refer to the “Help” file in the OLYMPUS Master
software.
