1SAFETY
WARNING
READ AND UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL BEFORE INSTALLING OR OPERATING.
ARC WELDING AND CUTTING CAN BE INJURIOUS TO YOURSELF AND OTHERS. TAKE PRECAU-
TIONS WHEN WELDING. ASK FOR YOUR EMPLOYER’S SAFETY PRACTICES WHICH SHOULD BE
BASED ON MANUFACTURERS’ HAZARD DATA.
ELECTRIC SHOCK -- Can kill
S Install and earth the welding unit in accordance with applicable standards.
S Do not touch live electrical parts or electrodes with bare skin, wet gloves or wet clothing.
S Insulate yourself from earth and the workpiece.
S Ensure your working stance is safe.
FUMES AND GASES -- Can b e dangerous to health
S Keep your head out of the fumes.
S Use ventilation, extraction at the arc, or both, to take fumes and gases away from your breathing zone
and the general area.
ARC RAYS -- Can injure eyes and burn skin.
S Protect your eyes and body. Use the c orrect welding screen and filter lens and wear protective
clothing.
S Protect bystanders with s uitable screens or curtains.
FIRE HAZARD
S Sparks (spatter) can cause fire. Make sure therefore that there are no inflammable materials nearby.
NOISE -- Excessive noise can damage hearing
S Protect your ears. Use earmuffs or other hearing protection.
S Warn bystanders of the risk.
MALFUNCTION -- Call for expert assistance in the event of malfunction.
PROTECT YOURSELF AND OTHERS!

S Electrodes for TIG welding
Three main types of electrodes are used for TIG welding:
S pure tungsten electrodes
S electrodes of tungsten alloyed with thorium
S electrodes of tungsten alloyed with zirconium
Alloying tungsten with 1% to 2% thorium or zirconium increases the electron
yield, which ensures better arc ignition and re --ignition, and hence improved
arc stability. Alloyed tungsten electrodes have a longer life, withstand higher
currents and are less likely to produce tungsten inclusions in the weld.
S Pure tungsten electrodes
used for welding aluminium alloys. T he tip of the electrode should be
rounded for welding. Melting point is around 3400_C.
S Thoriated tungsten electrodes
normally used for DC welding of stainless, steel, copper, titanium, etc. The
tip of the electrode should be ground to a point. Melting point is around
4000_C.
S Electrodes of tungsten alloyed with zirconium
used for AC welding of light metals such as aluminium and magnesium. T he
tip of the electrode should be rounded for welding. Melting point is around
3800_C.

4 OPERATION
General safety regulations for the handling of the equipment can be found on
page 24. Read through before you start using the equipment!
S Grind the tungsten electrode as shown in the table below. NOTE! the electrode
should be ground along its length. If it is ground incorrectly the arc may be
unstable.
The angle should be increased as the current is increased.

S Check the water flow through the cooling unit return hose.
5 MAINTENANCE
Note:
All warranty undertakings given by the supplier cease to apply if the customer
attempts to rectify any faults on the machine during the warranty period.
5.1 Daily
