SolaMate
HIA GreenSmart Product Award
Congratulations on purchasing a SolaMate solar air heating, cooling and
ventilation system, winner of the HIA GreenSmart product of the year
in 2009. SolaMate will warm your home in winter, cool your home on
summer nights and provide fresh air to your home all year round. You can
now look forward to many years of harvesting free energy and improved
air quality in your home.
We at SolaMate are very proud of our product and we hope that you
enjoy the benefits, energy savings and improved comfort that it can
provide.
SolaMate delivers naturally heated fresh air generated by the sun, or
naturally cool evening air via a set-and-forget controller to make your
home more comfortable for the same running cost of a light globe.
Your home needs fresh air in winter when the doors and windows are
closed and in summer fresh air cooling can be achieved which reduces
reliance on artificial systems. The regular flow of fresh, filtered air creates
a healthy home for your family by reducing dust, pollutants and allergens
by increasing indoor air quality.
Drawing in warm air all day or cool air all night, the SolaMate panels
utilise the
thermal mass of a building to stabilise temperature, dramatically
reducing the reliance on resource intensive heating and air conditioning
systems.

Things you can do
There are a number of things that you can do to maximise the
benefits of the SolaMate system to your home:
Leave the system on Auto Heat / Cool” mode all the time,
even when you are out of the home. SolaMate will harvest
solar energy even when you are out to maintain your home at
a comfortable temperature.
Ensure your home is well insulated, particularly ceiling insula-
tion
Ensure any uncontrolled draughts under doors or windows are
blocked
Install automatic draught blocking vents on your ceiling fans
in the kitchen and bathroom(s)
In the cooler months set your thermostat on your conventional
heating system 2–4ºC degrees below the target temperature
on the SolaMate system. This will ensure the SolaMate system
is operating to its maximum potential and the use of the
alternative heating system is minimised

How it Works
The SolaMate system draws warm or cool air from the
SolaMate panel, passes it through a high quality filter
and distributes it throughout your home. There are no
moving parts in the panel so it is extremely robust
and reliable.
The SolaMate Control Panel
The SolaMate digital controller is an intelligent
control system designed to optimise the performance
of your SolaMate panel. The sleek, modern and highly
reliable hardware is supplied by Honeywell, one of the
leading brands in thermostats worldwide, whilst the
algorithms have been customised specifically for the
SolaMate system.
The controller is connected to a temperature sensor in
the SolaMate panel, so it automatically knows when
the temperature in your house and the temperature in
the panel at all times.
Adjusting the Target Temperature
Select the up or down arrow to begin adjusting the
target temperature for your home
The large digits will display the set point temperature
Press the up or down arrow to increase or decrease

Auto Mode (“Auto”)
This is the recommended operating mode the system is fully automatic allowing you to set your target temperature
and forget. In Auto mode there will be three potential status:
‘Heating-only’ or ‘Cooling-only’ mode:
The SolaMate controller is capable of operating in either ‘heating-only’ or ‘cooling-only’ mode. In some circum-
stances it may be desirable to enter one of these modes. For example:
In winter your home may be artificially heated above the target temperature (eg using a wood heater). In
Auto HC’ mode SolaMate will try to cool your home down to the target temperature using the cold outside
air. In winter it is therefore often preferable to enter ‘heating-only’ mode.
On a cold summer night your home may cool down naturally to below the target temperature. In ‘Auto HC’
mode SolaMate will heat your home back up to the target temperature in the morning when the sun comes
out. In summer it is therefore often preferable to enter ‘cooling-only’ mode.
To enter ‘heating-only’ or ‘cooling-only’ mode
a. First touch any button once to wake the system up. The screen backlight will come on
b. Touch either the up or down arrow as if you are adjusting the target temperature. The system will show the
letters ‘SP’ (indicating ‘Set Point’) on the top row
c. Use the ‘override’ button to display the current mode
d. Use the ‘up / down’ arrows to toggle between the three different modes:
i. Auto HC’ for Automatic Heating and Cooling mode
ii. Auto H’ for ‘Heating-only’ mode
iii. Auto C’ for ‘Cooling-only’ mode
e. Once you have selected the mode you want then simply leave the system. It will revert to the standard screen
in five seconds.
