3 Operation
3.1 Mounting of the electronic unit
The electronic unit should be mounted on the tool post before use.
The tool post needs to be modified to allow for the mounting of the
electronic unit.
The Bluetooth antenna must point towards the operator when
positioning the electronic module. This area must not be blocked by
metal, in order to ensure proper signal range. The signal penetrates
through a closed machine, via the glass and gaps.
Bluetooth range depends on the distance between tool and PC
(normal range is 10 m) and the presence of any obstacles in between
them.
12
Make sure the location of the electronic unit allows for easy battery
insertion and removal. The electronic unit should be mounted
horizontally (central axis of battery) with screws in the six holes,
diameter 5 mm.
3.2 Connecting the electronic unit
Connect the cables between the electronic unit and the turning
adaptor. Insert battery to power up the electronic unit and sensors in
the turning adaptor.
NOTICE
The transmitter will always transmit a signal when the battery is
inserted, until the electronics disconnect the battery. This happens
when a low voltage threshold is reached. The threshold level is set
to be safe for the battery. The electronics power up again when a
charged battery is inserted.
13
To shut off the electronic unit, remove the battery.
NOTICE
Remove the battery if the electronic unit will not be used for a long
period of time. Mount the cover plug on the electronic unit to protect
the battery connector. Refer to section “7 Technical data” for infor-
mation on voltage, rated power and operating time.
Connecting cables
Install cables carefully to avoid sharp bends. Do not overbend the
cables, they may be damaged. Make sure the cables are not damaged
by moving/rotating parts of the lathe-/turn-mill centre and that no
weight is placed on top of them.
√ X
Orient the cable as indicated by the groove in the connector or the
N-mark. Push the cable straight into the connector.
NOTICE
Make sure not to rotate the cable during the push-pull movement.
14
Remove the cable by a pull. Grip the connector, not the cable, when
pulling.
√ X
Inserting battery
1. Orient the battery according to the position slot and insert the
battery into the electronic unit.
2. A soft click indicates when assembly is complete.
