Dear Customer
Please read these operating instructions carefully. Pay particular attention to the
safety information! Please keep the operating instructions for future reference.
Pass them on to any future owner of the appliance.
Before you start
Check the voltage
First check the voltage shown on the data plate (see rear view) to make sure that
the cleaner is of the correct voltage for your electricity supply. If it is not, do not
use the cleaner but refer back to your dealer.
Connecting to your electricity supply
Permanently connected to the cleaner is a mains supply (2-core) cable fitted with a
non-rewirable plug incorporating a 13A fuse.
In the event of the fuse requiting replacement the fuse cover should be removed
using a small screwdriver. The old fuse MUST be replaced by a 13A ASTA approved
BS1362 fuse or a BSI approved fuse. The cover must be replaced before the plug is
used again. In the event of loss of the fuse cover, replacements can be obtained
from your Electrolux Retailers and must be of the same colour as indicated by the
coloured insert on the base of the plug.
If difficulty is experienced in obtaining a replacement, contact Electrolux on 08706
055055.
In no circumstances must the plug be used without a correct fuse cover fitted.
If the plug that is fitted to your appliance is not suitable for your socket outlet, it
must be cut off and the appropriate plug fitted.
Remove the fuse from the cut off plug.
The cut off plug should then be disposed of to prevent the hazard of shocks in case
it should be plugged into a 13 amp socket in another part of your home.

The wires in the mains cable of this appliance are coloured in accordance with the
following code: Blue: Neutral. Brown: Live.
As the colours of the wires in the mains cable of this appliance may not correspond
with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as fol-
lows:
The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is mar-
ked with the letter N or coloured black.
The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is mar-
ked with the letter L or coloured red.
If using a three-pin plug, do not make any connection to the terminal marked with
the letter E or by the earth symbol or coloured green or green-and-yellow. This cle-
aner is double insulated and no earth connection is necessary.
It is in your interest to ensure that the plug is correctly attached to the mains
cable. In case of doubt, have it done by a qualified electrician, as Electrolux cannot
regard the repair of faults on the plug connection as a service that can be given
free of charge under the terms of the guarantee.

Dust collector or a paper dust bag and all filters must always be fitted. If no

cover cannot be closed. Please do not use force!

Withdraw cable, insert mains plug.
(To roll the cable up press foot switch A. Please hold the plug.)
Switch on/off with foot switch B (on the lowest power setting, there may be a
start delay up to 4 seconds due to the electronic starting current limiter *).
Suction capacity can be reduced by opening the suction control G *.
If you open the suction control G on the bent end, you can reduce the force requi-
red to push the nozzle across the carpet, and enable you to clean lightweight rugs,
curtains and upholstery.

Emptying dust collector/cleaning filters
We recommend emptying the dust collector after each use, but no later than
when indicator C shows red all over (with the unit switched to maximum suc-
tion capacity and the nozzle raised from the floor). If necessary, also brush dust
from the collector filter. Figs. 1-3.
Caution: open dust-collector compartment cover fully until it locks in place!
If the collector is cleaned wet (see also p. 10): allow to dry well before refitting.
If the suction power falls off noticeably even after the dust collector has
been emptied (or if indicator C is red), rinse out all filters under hot running
water. Allow to fully dry before refitting. Figs. 4-6. Replace filters if necessary.

Maintenance and cleaning
Before starting maintenance or cleaning, switch off the unit and withdraw the
mains plug.
Wipe over unit and dust-collector compartment if necessary with a damp cloth
and allow to dry. Do not use abrasive materials or solvents. Clean floor nozzle and
brush webs occasionally with the crevice nozzle.
Do not wash the dust collector in a dishwasher or clean with aggressive detergents.
(This could damage or dull the dust collector).
What to do if...
...it is difficult to move the nozzle: reduce the suction capacity. This does not
reduce the cleaning effect.
...the motor overheating protection has switched off the unit: e.g. owing to
overload of the motor, by full dust collector or blocked tools.
Switch off the unit, withdraw the mains plug, allow motor to cool. Check dust col-
lector, suction tube and suction hose; removed any blockage. The unit can be swit-
ched on again after approx. 30 minutes.
...the fuse has blown: the fuse can blow if other electrical units with high con-
sumption are used at the same time as the vacuum cleaner from the same circuit.
In this case before switching on set the suction capacity control to the lowest level
and only select a higher level after switching on.
For the sake of the environment
Do not simply discard packing material and used units!
Unit packing: we recommend preserving the packing material for the term of the
warranty to permit reliable transport.
Take the polyethylene (PE) bag to a PE recycling bank.
Recycling the vacuum cleaner at the end of its service life: the plastic parts are
identified by a material code, so that they can be recycled at the end of the service
life of the vacuum cleaner in the same way as other materials.
Your local authority environment office will provide information on the location of
the nearest recycling facility.
Spares
New filters, dust bags, brush rollers and drive belts can be obtained from Authori-
sed Electrolux Dealers and electrical retailers. If difficulty is experienced in obtai-
ning spares please call us on 08706 055055.
