Thank you for selecting the Extech Instruments Model CO240. The CO240 measures Carbon
Dioxide(CO

),AirTemperature,andRelativeHumidity.ItalsocalculatesDewPointTemperature
and Wet Bulb Temperature. The userprogrammable high alarm feature alerts the user when

Operation
Poweringthemeter
Momentarily press the POWER button to power on the meter. Hold the POWER button for 2
seconds to turn off the meter. During measurement, if the alarm is sounding (audible beeper)
pressthePOWERbuttonmomentarilytoturnoffthebeeper.Pressagaintoactivatethebeeper
function. The alarm beeper is set to ON by default. The meter can be powered by 6 AAA
batteriesorACAdaptor.
Recommendation:Fordatalogging,powertheunitusinganAC/DCadaptorinordertoconserve
batterypower.
AutoPowerOff
TheCO240 will automatically turn offafter20minutes of inactivity.To disable theautopower
offfunction: With themeterOFF,pressand hold the HOLDbuttonand then pressthePOWER
button.TheLCDwillshown”,andwillthenreturntonormalmeasurementmode.
Measurements
Whenthemeteristurnedon,aselftestisimplemented.DuetothenatureoftheNDIRsensor,
ittypicallyrequiresapproximatelytenminutestoobtainstable,accuratereadings.IftheUSB
cableisconnectedtotheCO240,theUSBsymbolwillbeshownontheLCD.
Thetemperatureand
relativehumidityreadingswillalternateonthelowerLCDlinealongwith
theCO
2
readingonthetopdisplayline.UsetheMODEbuttontoswitchtoDP(DewPoint
Temperature)andWB(WetBulbTemperature)modes(lowerdisplayline).
MaximumandMinimumReadingsMemory
Momentarily press the MAX/MIN button to review the maximum and minimum readings
captured since the meter was powered on. Pressing the button once will show the maximum
value.Pressingthebuttonagain willdisplaytheminimumvalue.Pressingthebuttonathirdtime
willreturnthemetertoitsnormalmodeofoperation.WhileinMAXMINmode,press and hold
theHOLDbuttonfor2secondstoreset(clear)thestoredmaximumandminimumvalues.

Calibration
Pressandholdthe SET+UNITbuttonsfor2secondstoentertheselfcalibrationmode.Ensure
thatthereisaslittleCO
2
presentaspossible.Itisrecommendedthatthisbedoneinoutsideair.
The LCD will display CAL and will perform a 60second countdown as it performs the
calibration. A reading of 400 is displayed as a normal CO
2
level reference value during the
calibration. After the calibration has completed, the meter will return to its normal mode
operation.

AutomaticCO2BaselineCalibration(ABC)
TheABC algorithm continually tracksthesensor’slowestreadingovera fixed time interval and
slowlycorrectsforanylongtermdrift(ascomparedtotheexpectedfreshairvalueof400ppm).
TheABCperiodis15days,duringwhichtheABCfunctiondefaultisalwayson.
CO2AlarmSetting
Press and hold the SET button for 2 seconds to enter the high CO
2
alarm threshold. Press the
HOLDbuttontoincreasethevalue,andtheDownarrowbuttontodecreasethevalue.Pressthe
MODEbuttontoselectthedigittotheleftandpresstheMAX/MINbuttontoselectthedigitto
the right. Once the desired value is set, press the SET button for 2 seconds to save the alarm
setting. The LCD will return to its normal mode of operation. The meter alarm limit default is
1000ppm(OSHA).MomentarilypressthePOWERbuttontotogglethealarmonandoff.
DataStreamingtoPC
The CO240 features realtime data streaming to a PC using the supplied SW200S software.
When the meter is connected to a PC, the USB icon will be visible on the LCD display. Please
installtheUSBdriverandsuppliedsoftwarebeforeattemptingtostreamdata.RefertotheHelp
Utilitywithinthesoftwareprogramforfurtherdetails.

MaintenanceandTroubleshooting
BatteryReplacement
WhenthebatteryiconappearsontheLCD,thebatteriesmustbereplaced.
Inadownwardmotion,slidetherearbatterycompartmentcoveroffofthemeterhousing.
Removetheoldbatteriesandreplacewithnewbatteries(allofthesametype)observingcorrect
polarity.Thismeterusessix(6)1.5V
AAAbatteries.Pleasereplacethebatterycompartment
coverbeforeattemptingtousethemeter.
Neverdisposeofusedbatteriesorrechargeablebatteriesinhouseholdwaste.

batteries
aresold.
