Public Safety
Speaker/Microphones
Models: RMN5072, RMN5073
& RMN5074
DESCRIPTION
The RMN5072, RMN5073, and RMN5074 Public Safety Speaker/
Microphones (PSSM) include a speaker, microphone, push-to-talk
(PTT) switch, high/low volume switch, swivel clip, RF adapter, and
accessory connector cord assembly. The three microphones are
exactly the same, except that the lengths of their cords are differ-
ent: RMN5072 is 30”, RMN5073 is 24”, and the RMN5074 is 18”.
When the PSSM’s accessory connector is attached to the radio, the
radio’s speaker is disabled, and the received audio is instead
routed to the PSSM’s speaker. Similarly, the PSSM’s microphone is
connected to the radio’s transmitter, and the PSSM’s PTT switch
can now control the PTT function of the radio. The radio’s micro-
phone and PTT switch are still operational but, since the radio’s
speaker is disabled, you can listen to the received audio only
through the accessory speaker. Similarly, when a secondary
receiver audio accessory is plugged into the 3.5mm audio jack, the
received audio can only be heard through the secondary acces-
sory.
The public safety speaker/microphone has a threaded antenna port
on its top. The antenna must be ordered separately. Use the radio
antennas.
Notes:
Before the PSSM can be used with a radio, a radio frequency
(RF) adapter (RLN5918) must be installed in the radio’s
antenna port.
The PSSM also has a 3.5mm earphone jack. A seal, attached to
the accessory connector, is provided to cover the earphone jack
when it is not in use.

OPERATION
A. If the radio’s universal connector cover is installed in the radio,
remove it by:
1. Looking at the antenna side of the radio, insert a flat-bladed
screwdriver between the lower end of the universal connec-
tor cover and the slot below the universal connector.
2. Pry upward on the cover’s lower end until it disengages
from the radio.
B. Ensure that the radio is turned off before attaching the acces-
sory connector to the radio.
C. Attach the accessory connector to the radio’s universal con-
nector as follows:
1. Make sure the RF adapter has been installed in your radio’s
antenna port.
2. Looking at the antenna side of the radio.
3. While holding the accessory connector seated in the bottom
slot, pivot the top of the accessory connector toward the
radio until its RF interface connector aligns with the RF
adapter. Push down on the top of the RF interface connec-
tor until it is aligned with the RF adapter and engage the
accessory connector’s spring-loaded latch inthe radio’s top
slot.
4. If a more permanent attachment is desired after the acces-
sory connector is latched to the radio, secure the latch to
the connector housing using the screw supplied.
D. Attach the applicable (frequency-sensitive) antenna to the
PSSM by screwing the antenna’s threaded end into the
threaded antenna jack on top of the PSSM’s housing. Rotate
the antenna clockwise into the jack until it seats firmly. The
public safety speaker/ microphone performs best when it is
operated with the antenna above the user’s shoulder.
E. Turn the radio on and operate it as explained in the operating
instructions supplied with the radio. Remember that receiver
audio will be heard only from the accessory speaker.
