REMOVAL
1.
Position the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
2.
NOTE: TCM Programming is NOT necessary if the TCM
is being re-used.
Download the module information to the diagnostic tool using the Programmable Modules
Installation routine.
3.
Remove the air deflector.

Remove the underbody shield.

Push up on the front of the wiring routing bracket to release the retainer and position it aside.

NOTE: Make sure that the terminals or pins/sockets of
the transmission control module (TCM) and the TCM
electrical connector are not bent or damaged.

Disconnect the wiring, remove the wiring retainers from the wiring harness and position aside the
wiring harness. Remove the TCM bolts.

Remove and discard the O-ring seals.

free of corrosion and foreign material.
Inspect the TCM mating surface for corrosion and debris.

INSTALLATION
1.
NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and
free of corrosion and foreign material.
NOTE: Install new O-rings.
Install new O-rings and lubricate with transmission fluid.

NOTE: Do not force the TCM onto the transmission or
damage may occur.
NOTE: Make sure the TCM sits flush on the
transmission or damage can occur.

Install the TCM on the transmission. Apply light pressure to seat the O-rings. If the TCM does not
push in place with light pressure, remove the TCM and slightly turn the TCM gears and retry
installing the TCM on the transmission.

Modules Installation routine. Use the General Equipment: Ford Diagnostic Equipment

routines found in the TCM Adaptive Learning sub-menu.
