2.4 Advanced Security
Ganymede822p contains advanced security features that prevent other computers on the Internet
from connecting to your PCs. You should only change the default security settings if you have
experience in network configuration. In most cases you will not need to make any changes.
You can configure Ganymede822p to allow PCs on your network to accept connections from other
computers on the Internet. You need to do this if you want to access certain applications from that
PC, such as some network games, chat or file sharing software. Ganymede822p already knows
about certain Internet applications.
To allow an application to send packets to a PC on your network, Ganymede822p needs to know:
• which protocol the application uses, e.g., NetMeeting (h323) uses TCP
• which ports the applications uses, e.g., NetMeeting (h323) uses TCP port 1720
• which applications require triggers to open secondary ports in order to transport packets,
e.g., NetMeeting (h323) requires secondary port 30000
Ganymede822p already knows the protocol, port and trigger information necessary to allow many
applications to access PCs on your network, so you do not have to enter this information manually.
Once you enable one of the common applications from the list, Ganymede822p automatically uses
the correct port, protocol and (if necessary) trigger settings to allow the application to pass traffic.
