1.3 Preliminary setup
1.3.1 LAN and TCP/IP setup
This section of the manual provides important information to keep in mind when setting up the first
connection between your computer and SI2000 Ganymede 822+ Router.
The factory default settings of the SI2000 Ganymede 822+ Router have values listed bellow:
Local IP address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP server: Disabled
User defined IP address
The default option is to set up the connection by yourself. In this case you must specify the IP
address of your system. Be careful that the subnet values of your system and the router are the
same, e.g. 192.168.1.0 (IP address 192.168.1.1 for router and IP address 192.168.1.2 for computer).
Example is shown on the picture bellow.

The IP address of the router can also be changed, you can learn about that under the WEB
management connection sections of the manual.
Obtain an IP automatically
If you enable DHCP server in Ganymede 822+, is the easiest way to set up a connection to
configure the LAN adapter on your system to obtain an IP automatically. This can be done in your
operational system by managing the Local Area Connection Properties. The TCP/IP protocol must
be installed on your system and set to obtain an IP address automatically. Example is shown on the
figure 7.

addresses for a given IP address.
Both IP addresses and subnet masks consist of four numbers. Each number in an IP address and
subnet mask is a value between 0 and 255.
More information about IP addresses and subnet masks can be found in the Ganymede822p User
Guide.
The Addressing page displays the IP address and subnet mask for Ganymede822p. These provide a
unique address for Ganymede822p, as well as giving it the range of addresses to use for other PCs
that are connected to Ganymede822p. Ganymede822p's default IP address and subnet mask is
suitable for most networks.

2.4 Advanced Security
Ganymede822p contains advanced security features that prevent other computers on the Internet
from connecting to your PCs. You should only change the default security settings if you have
experience in network configuration. In most cases you will not need to make any changes.
You can configure Ganymede822p to allow PCs on your network to accept connections from other
computers on the Internet. You need to do this if you want to access certain applications from that
PC, such as some network games, chat or file sharing software. Ganymede822p already knows
about certain Internet applications.
To allow an application to send packets to a PC on your network, Ganymede822p needs to know:
which protocol the application uses, e.g., NetMeeting (h323) uses TCP
which ports the applications uses, e.g., NetMeeting (h323) uses TCP port 1720
which applications require triggers to open secondary ports in order to transport packets,
e.g., NetMeeting (h323) requires secondary port 30000
Ganymede822p already knows the protocol, port and trigger information necessary to allow many
applications to access PCs on your network, so you do not have to enter this information manually.
Once you enable one of the common applications from the list, Ganymede822p automatically uses
the correct port, protocol and (if necessary) trigger settings to allow the application to pass traffic.
