DAMPER PLATE REMOVAL
1. Remove the existing damper plate from the rod by grinding off
the 3 welds. A disc grinder is recommended or a small Dremel
tool with a small diameter disc might be best in case the end
welds are close to the damper can walls (see Figure 2).
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the damper can walls and
the rod as it will remain in place to be used with the new
damper blade.
2. Grind welds off of rod as best and as much as possible. Be careful
not to damage or grind into the rod (see Figure 3).

INSTALLING THE NEW BLADE
NOTICE: FOR EASIER INSTALLATION ANOTHER
PERSON IS RECOMMENDED.
1. Holding the damper blade with the weights facing the right side
of the fireplace (if standing in front of it), wiggle it up against
the rod as shown (see Figure 4).
NOTE: MAKE SURE THE 3 SQUARE CUT OUTS CLEAR ANY
WELD TAGS LEFT BEHIND ON THE ROD.
2. While holding the new damper blade up against the rod, insert
the 2 U-bolts from the opposite side of the weights (see Figure 4).
3. Holding the U-bolts in place install the cover plate over the U-
bolts then secure it with the spacer block, lock washers and nuts.
Hand tighten the nuts only at this point (see Figure 5, page 3).
