¬Discs that you can use for recording on this unit

You can record motion pictures to disc on this unit.

*1 Be sure not to touch the disc surface, and be careful that no dirt adheres to it. For details, refer to

“Disc and card handling” on the operating instructions.

*2 For the purposes of these operating instructions, DVD-R and DVD-R DL are referred to as the

“DVD-R”.

¬What you can do with each disc

∫DVD-RAM

DVD-RAM are discs that can be recorded on repeatedly. Their recorded contents can be freely edited

on this unit or the computer.

∫DVD-RW

DVD-RW are discs that can be formatted in two ways.

For recording repeatedly and editing: VR format

For playback on other products: Video format

Even if you record until the DVD-RW disc becomes full, formatting it on the unit makes recording

possible again. When formatting the disc you can change the format type (VR format or Video format).

DVD-R are discs that are suitable to playback images recorded with this unit on other products. They

are useful when you want to copy and give movies edited on a computer to your friends.

≥Playback of DVD-R DL is only possible on devices that support DVD-R DL.

¬Frequently asked questions about discs

* Finalized process makes playback of a disc possible on compatible products. After finalizing, the

disc becomes play-only and you can no longer record. Finalized DVD-RW (Video format)/DVD-R

discs can be played back as DVD-Video on DVD players.

Can discs with a cartridge

be used?

They can be used if the cartridge is removed.

Can double sided discs

be used?

They can be used.

However you cannot record or play continuously from one

side of the disc to the other. You will need to eject the disc and

turn it over.

Can I record continuously

from one side of the disc

to the other on a double

sided disc?

You cannot record continuously from one side of the disc to

the other. The recording time indicated on the disc package is

the total time for both sides. You will need to eject the disc and

turn it over to record on both sides.

Can DVD-R be recorded to

once only?

Recording can be started and stopped until the disc is full.

However the data recorded on the DVD-R cannot be erased.

DVD-Video discs.

¬Contents on provided CD-ROM

The following software applications are contained on the provided CD-ROM.

∫DVD-RAM Driver

This is necessary to configure the unit as a drive on a computer.

∫DVD-MovieAlbumSE

This software is for playing back and editing* VR format motion pictures.

By using DVD-MovieAlbumSE with this unit, it is possible to perform playback and editing* of the

DVD-RAM or DVD-RW (VR format). It is also possible to transfer exported data to DVDfunSTUDIO.

* Editing can only be performed on a DVD-RAM.

∫DVDfunSTUDIO

This software is for creating a DVD-Video disc.

Use this software when burning a DVD-Video disc from motion pictures edited using

DVD-MovieAlbumSE.

∫Acrobat Reader

To view the installed operating instructions, Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or later is required.

Is playback possible on a

DVD player?

By finalizing a DVD-RW (VR format/Video format) or a DVD-R

in this unit, it can be played back on a DVD player.

To playback a DVD-RAM, DVD-RW (VR format) or DVD-

R DL, you will need a DVD recorder or a DVD player that

supports DVD-RAM, DVD-RW (VR format) or DVD-R DL.

Refer to the operating instructions of the DVD recorder or

DVD player.

≥Before using DVD-RW (VR format) on other devices, be

sure to finalize it on this unit. DVD-RW (VR format) after

finalization can be recorded and edited in the same way as

DVD-RW (VR format) before finalization.

¬Installing software

When installing the software, log on to your computer as the Administrator or with a user name with

equivalent authorization. (If you do not have authorization to do this, consult your manager.)

1Insert the CD-ROM into the computer.

The introduction movie starts.

Click [To continue the installation] at the end of the introduction movie and then

the [Setup Menu] screen will appear.

≥If the introduction movie screen does not appear, double-click the CD-ROM

drive icon in [My Computer].

2Click the software to be installed.

≥Install DVD-RAM Driver and then install DVD-MovieAlbumSE or DVDfunSTUDIO.

3Follow the on-screen messages to install it.

≥When installing DVD-MovieAlbumSE or DVDfunSTUDIO:

Select [NTSC (North America)] for the TV system.

¬Creating a DVD-Video disc on a computer

Using DVD-MovieAlbumSE and DVDfunSTUDIO, you can create a DVD-Video disc (DVD-RW/DVD-R

disc) from the motion pictures recorded on this unit.

≥Before using DVD-RW (VR format) on a computer, be sure to finalize it on this unit.

≥When using DVD-MovieAlbumSE or DVDfunSTUDIO, log on to your computer as Administrator with

a login name equally authorized. If you log on with a login name other than Administrator, you cannot

use the applications.

≥When using DVD-MovieAlbumSE or DVDfunSTUDIO, close any other software applications.

≥Connect this unit to the AC adaptor.

1Insert a DVD-RAM or DVD-RW (VR format) with recorded images in the

unit, then turn on the unit.

2Connect this unit and a computer.

AUSB cable (supplied)

≥Insert the plugs as far as they will go. The unit and

computer will not operate properly if the plugs are

not inserted fully.

≥Do not use any other USB cables except the

supplied one. (Operation is not guaranteed with

any other USB cables.)

The USB function selection screen will appear.

3Select [PC CONNECT(DISC)] and press the joystick.

4(On the computer)

Select [start] # [All Programs (Programs)] #

[Panasonic] # [DVD camcorders] # [DVD

camcorders], then click [DVD-MovieAlbum].

≥If the screen showing a brief explanation of the application is displayed,

close it.

DVD-MovieAlbumSE starts and the images recorded on the disc are

displayed.

5(When using a DVD-RAM only)

Edit the images on the disc as required.

6Click [Export].

When starting DVD-MovieAlbumSE, the [Mount Information] dialog box may appear or the

recorded images may not be shown. If this occurs, try the following procedure. If there are

multiple drives, a drive other than this unit may be selected.

1) Click [Preference] on the dialog box or ([Preference]) button at top right of

DVD-MovieAlbumSE screen, and then click the [Device setting] tab.

2) Choose the drive where the disc is loaded in the [Drive Select] column, and then click [OK].

7Set the export settings in the [Export all titles] screen and

click [Start].

≥It is recommended that you do not change the settings displayed on the screen.

8When export is complete, a message will appear. Check

the small box for [Eject the disc being used.], and then

click [Yes].

DVD-MovieAlbumSE automatically closes and DVDfunSTUDIO

automatically starts.

9Insert a brand-new DVD-RW or DVD-R disc into the unit.

When the [CollectTool] screen appears, click [OK].

The exported scene will be automatically registered on the DVDfunSTUDIO

editing screen.

Edit the DVD menu as required.

≥Set the disc size to [8cm DVD] or [8cm DVD DL].

≥Select the desired destination drive to write to if necessary.

Click [Burning].

Writing to the disc starts.

When writing is complete, the disc is ejected automatically.

This software is for playing back motion pictures recorded on a disc, importing motion pictures to a

computer, creating a DVD-Video disc etc.

Use this software when burning a DVD-Video disc from motion pictures recorded on this unit.

≥To create a DVD-Video disc, a separate DVD-RW/DVD-R/+RW/+R drive is required.

¬Installing software

1Insert the CD-ROM into the computer.

Double-click the [ImageMixer 3 for DVD Palmcorder] icon in the

[ImageMixer 3 for DVD Palmcorder] folder you installed.

ImageMixer 3 starts.

5Click [DVD-RAM LMXK1987] in [Source].

The contents recorded on the disc are displayed.

6Click the desired recording date (A), select the scene

(B) and then click the [Import] button (C).

7Click [Library] in [Source] to display the contents of the library.

≥Edit the motion pictures if necessary.

≥Using [Combination List], multiple scenes can be combined into one title.

8Select the scenes to be added to the DVD-Video and

then click [DVD List].

9Select the DVD menu, the disc size and the picture

quality and then click [OK].

A new list is created in [DVD List] in [Source].

≥You can add images to the disc to be created by dragging and dropping

files from the library to the created list.

Prepare a DVD-RW/DVD-R/rRW/rR drive that can be written to

and then insert a brand-new disc into the drive.
