WARNING: Extremely Hot!
Heat and ammability
Some parts of your replace are extremely hot,
particularly the glass window. Use the provided bar-
rier screen and a gate to reduce the risk of severe
burns.
The glass windows can exceed temperatures of
500°F at full capacity.
Always keep the appliance clear and free from com-
bustible materials, gasoline, and other ammable
vapors and liquids.
Be aware of hot wall surfaces. Although safe, the
wall directly above the replace can get very hot
when the replace heats. Do not touch!
Be aware of hot surfaces in front of the replace
windows. Although safe and depending of its eleva-
tion, a shelf directly in front of the replace can get
very hot when the replace heats. Do not place
anything on it!
Some materials or items, although safe, may dis-
color, shrink, warp, crack, or peel due to the heat
produced by the replace. Avoid placing candles,
paintings, photos and other combustible objects
sensitive to heat or furniture within 36 inches
(0.9m) around the replace.
• Solid wood ooring in front of the replace (if al-
lowed) may shrink during the heating season due
to heat.
Due to its high temperature, the appliance should
be located away from high-tra c areas, furniture,
and draperies.
• Clothing or ammable material should not be
placed on or near the appliance.
Glass window
The glass window fronts must be in place and
sealed before the unit can be placed into safe op-
eration.
The glass fronts must only be replaced as complete
units, as supplied by the replace manufacturer. No
substitute material may be used.
Do not use abrasive cleaners on the glass front
assembly. Do not attempt to clean the glass front
when it is hot.
Do not strike or slam the glass fronts.

Barrier Screen and Safety
A barrier designed to reduce the risk of burns from
the hot viewing glass is provided with this appli-
ance and must be installed for the protection of
children and other at-risk individuals.
Any safety screen, guard, or barrier removed for
servicing an appliance, must be replaced prior to
operating the appliance.
If the barrier becomes damaged, the barrier must
be replaced with the manufacturer's barrier for
this appliance.
Initial and annual inspection
The appliance and venting system should be in-
spected before initial use and at least annually
by a professional service person.
Installation and repair should be performed by
a quali ed service person.
Do not use this appliance if any part has been
under water. Immediately call a quali ed service
technician to inspect the appliance and to replace
any part of the control system and any gas control
that has been under water.
Intended use
This appliance is designed and approved as a
supplemental heater to be used while attended.
The use of an alternate primary heat source is
advisable.
This unit is not for use with solid fuel.
Maintenance
More frequent cleaning might be required due to
excessive lint from carpeting, bedding material,
etc. It is imperative that control compartments,
burners, and circultaing air passageways of the ap-
pliance be kept clean.
Keep the unit’s control compartment, burner, and
circulating air passageways clean to enable ad-
equate combustion and ventilation air.
Inspect the external vent cap on a regular basis to
ensure that no debris, plants, trees, or shrubs are
interfering with air ow.
Venting
This unit must be used with a vent system as
described in the installation manual. No other vent
system or components may be used.
Never obstruct the ow of combustion and venti-
lation air. Keep the front of the appliance clear of
all obstructions for optimal operation and ease of
servicing.
This unit must be vented directly outside and must
never be attached to a chimney serving a separate
solid fuel burning appliance. Each gas appliance
must use a separate vent system. Common vent
systems are prohibited.
Safety and your fireplace
6
A heating gas appliance does require safe handling. For this reason, we very strongly recommend children not be
allowed to touch the replace or its controls.
Read and carefully follow all safety warnings and operating instructions contained in this manual, and follow
these important child safety precautions and recommendations:
Parts of your Valor Fireplace become extremely
hot while in operation. The glass window tempera-
ture can exceed 500º F at full capacity.
Do not let children touch the glass or any parts
of your replace even after it is turned o , as the
surfaces will remain hot for some time.
Even momentary contact with a hot glass surface
can cause a severe burn, including when the re-
place is operating at reduced heating capacity.
The glass window will remain hot for an extended
period of time after the replace has been turned
o . Make sure that children do not touch the re-
place during the cool down period.
Children and adults should be alerted to the haz-
ards of high surface temperature and should stay
away to avoid burns or clothing ignition.
Young children should be carefully supervised
when they are in the same room as the appliance.
Toddlers, young children, and others may be sus-
ceptible to accidental contact burns.
A physical barrier is recommended if there are
at-risk individuals in the house. To restrict access
to a replace or stove, install an adjustable safety
gate to keep toddlers, young children, and other
at-risk individuals out of the room and away from
hot surfaces.
Keep the remote control handset out of reach of
children at all times. A wall mount storage support
is provided with your remote control handset.
Make sure that the replace, including the pilot
light, is completely turned o when children are
present and close supervision is not available—see
pages 9 for details.
• If the replace is not going to be used for an ex-
tended period of time, remove the batteries from
the remote control handset and battery holder un-
der the rebox. It is recommended that batteries
are replaced annually —see page 11 for details.

Getting started
WARNING
Do not attempt to access the card while
the replace is hot! Let the replace cool
rst before touching it!
First time operation
When operating your new replace for the rst time,
some vapors may be released due to the burning of
curing compounds used during manufacturing. They
may cause a slight odor and could cause the ames
to be the full height of the rebox, or even slightly
higher, for the rst few hours of operation.
It is also possible that these vapors could set o any
smoke detection alarms in the immediate vicinity.
These vapors are quite normal on new replaces.
We recommend opening a window to vent the
room. After a few hours of use, the vapors will have
disappeared and the ames will be at their normal
height.
Valor automatic gas shut-o
For your safety, Valor replaces are tted with a
ame supervision device which will shut-o the gas
supply if, for any reason, the pilot ame goes out.
This device incorporates a xed probe, which senses
the heat from the pilot ame. If the probe is cool,
the device will prevent any gas ow unless manually
lighting the pilot. See the full Fireplace and Lighting
Information card attached to the replace or as
reproduced in Appendix A of the Installation Manual.
Locating replace and lighting information
The Fireplace and Lighting Information is located
on a card at the bottom of the replace, under the
rebox—see image at the right.
Depending of the front installed on your replace the
access to the card is dierent. You can:
open the bottom panel under the screen; or,
unhook the fret; or,
unhook the trim with barrier screen attached.
The card contains important information on both
sides of the card. It must be left with the replace
when you are done.

Cleaning your fireplace
Cleaning glass mineral deposits
A by-product of the combustion process in a gas
replace is a mineral which can appear as a white lm
on the ceramic glass windows of your appliance.
The composition of the deposit varies depending on
location and time, and can appear intermittently.
There is no denitive solution to this issue. Various
cleaning products have been tried with varying
results. The following are recommendations only and
cannot guarantee results.
Note: Mineral deposits occur naturally and are not
covered under the Valor® warranty.
Clean the glass regularly to avoid a buildup of lm
from mineral. If the lm is left for a long period of
time, it can etch the glass, making it much harder, if
not impossible, to remove.
Never use an abrasive cleaner or ammonia-based
cleaner on the ceramic glass. Any abrasion of the
surface can compromise the strength of the glass.
An emulsion-type cleaner is recommended.
Use a soft damp cloth to apply the cleaner. Dry the
glass with a soft, dry, preferably cotton cloth. Most
paper towels and synthetic materials are abrasive
to ceramic glass and should be avoided. Follow all
instructions on the bottle/container.
Our dealers have experienced good results from the
products listed below. We cannot, however, guaran-
tee results of these products.

Do not clean the glass while it is hot
Always securely replace the windows and the barrier
screen before lighting (see next page).
If broken, glass panes may only be replaced as a
complete window unit as supplied by the manufac-
turer.
If the barrier screen becomes damaged, it must only
be replaced with the same model and version barrier
from Valor.
Cleaning other parts
Clean the steel trims with mild soap and warm water.
Any alcohol/solvent-based cleaner may weaken and
damage the coating.
Clean the barrier screens by dusting with a soft
brush.
• Clean the rebox ceramic fuel bed and walls by
dusting them with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner.
Dust and soot can also be removed from the burner
and logs using after removing the ceramic logs.
Minor amount of soot developing on logs is common
but soot that builds up, falls o and accumulates
indicates that the burner needs adjustment or the
logs may be installed correctly—see Checking pilot
and burner ames on page 16 or replace's
Installation Manual for proper log placement.
When cleaning, make sure that no particles are
brushed into the slots of the burner.
Log/Coals/Rocks position
Logs/Coals/Rocks position is important in your Valor
replace because it can optimize the beauty of the
ame and the combustion eciency of your replace.
To reinstall the logs/coals/rocks after cleaning or
other replace maintenance, refer to your replace's
Installation Manual for specic instructions on how
to place them for optimal operation. If you are not
comfortable performing this task, please contact
your dealer.
Caution
Choking Hazard! Make sure the fireplace area is
clear of firebed small particles to avoid ingestion
by small children. Vacuum thoroughly around
the fireplace area after cleaning.
WARNING
Risk of severe burns! The glass windows
are very hot during operation. Ensure the
replace and glass have cooled o before
touching them.
15

support at the base of the
rebox and center it on the
width.
2. While pressing the window
against the rebox, pull
the clamping bars levers
forward and rotate them
inwards to secure the top
of the window.
3. Fit the two spring-loaded
bolts through the bottom
of the window and tighten
to secure the window.
4. Pull the top of the window
forward and release to
check that it opens slightly
and returns con rming
the good function of the
spring-loaded mechanism.
5. Similarly, check the bottom
of the window by pulling it
forward and releasing it.
6. Apply rm pressure
around the window frame
to ensure the window is
sealed tight against the
rebox.
7. If the Hot Glass Warning plate has been removed
from the front lower corner of the window,
reinstall it by sliding it between the glass and the
frame as indicated.
WARNING
For safety purposes, make sure the
barrier screen is re-installed on the
replace front after maintenance.
8. Re-install the barrier screen on the trim.
16
Typical ame appearance
The pilot light and burner ames should be checked
periodically. Check after the re has been on for at least
30 minutes. The pilot ame must cover the tip of the
thermocouple probe. The main burner ame pattern will
vary depending on the type of installation and climatic
conditions.
Performance of propane gas replaces may be aected by
the quality of commercial gas supplied
in your area.
The replace area must always be kept clear and free from
combustible materials, gasoline and other ammable vapors
and liquids.
Inspect the vent terminal outdoors regularly to ensure that
it is not obstructed by snow, trees, bushes, leaves, or other
objects.
Inpect the vent system regularly. We recommend at least
once a year.

Frequently asked questions
Question Answer
What if my replace won't
turn on?
If you have followed all instructions for your remote control or wall switch
(see page 9, or pages 21-24) and your replace still won't turn on, the
batteries located inside the wall switch kit may be low and need replacing.
See page 11 for instructions on how to replace the batteries.
If the replace still won't turn on after that, call your dealer for further
information. Your replace may require service by a qualied service
technician. Visit valorreplaces.com/contact for a list of dealers near you.
I've just started my replace
for the rst time, what is
that smell?
When operating your replace for the rst time, some vapors may
be released due to the burning of curing compounds used during
manufacturing. They may cause a slight odor and could cause the ames
to be the full height of the rebox, or even slightly higher, for the rst few
hours of operation. This is perfectly normal. See First Time Operation on
page 7 for more information.
When I operate the replace,
why do I suddenly hear a
faster series of beeps than
usual?
This is an indication that the batteries in your replace are getting critically
low (not the batteries in your remote control handset, but the batteries in
the battery holder under the rebox). See page 11 for instructions on how
to replace the batteries.
Why do I hear popping or
snapping noises?
As your replace heats and cools with normal use, its metal parts will
expand and contract, which may cause some noise. This is perfectly
normal.
Why do I hear whirring
noises?
As you start or adjust your replace's ame, the control valve motor turns
to adjust the settings. This is perfectly normal.
How do I clean my replace? See Cleaning your replace on pages 13-15 for cleaning instructions to
keep your replace looking great.
There is condensation on
the inside of the glass, is this
okay?
This is normal when the replace rst turns on, and will disappear
naturally when the replace heats up.
There is a white lm on the
inside of the glass, is this
okay?
This happens due to composition of the gas from your supplier. A by-
product of the combustion process in a gas replace is a mineral which
can appear as a white lm on the ceramic glass window of your appliance.
Clean as soon as possible (when the replace is cool) so it does not bake
onto the glass with time and become permanent. See pages 13-15 for
cleaning instructions.
When I start my replace,
the ame is blue or
transparent, is this normal?
This is normal, your ame will take on a more yellow/orange appearance
as the replace heats up.
18
Frequently asked questions
Question Answer
When I start my replace,
the ame is dirty or black, is
this normal?
No. This is possibly caused by a blocked opening in the burner which can
be cleaned by vacuuming it. See pages 13-15 for cleaning instructions, and
call your dealer if the problem persists after cleaning.
After running for some
time, my replace has
soot gathering on the
logs, panels, or roof, is this
normal?
Minor amounts of soot developing on logs is common, but soot
that builds up, falls o, and accumulates indicates the burner needs
adjustment, or the logs may have been installed incorrectly. Contact your
dealer for remedies to excessive sooting.
Where can I purchase parts
for my replace?
Any of our Valor dealers are able to order parts or provide eld service.
Please contact your dealer - see page 3 - or visit valorreplaces.com/
contact for a list of dealers near you.
Who can service my
replace?
We recommend having your replace serviced before initial use, and at
least once every year by a qualied service technician. Contact our dealer,
quoting the model and serial numbers, if possible. These numbers can
be found on the replace information card attached to the replace - see
page 7.
Why does my pilot light go
out when I leave the house
for extended periods of
time?
Your replace has a built-in safety shuto. If the ame height does not
adjust for 7 days, the replace will automatically turn the pilot o, and
would need to be turned on again using either the handset or wall switch.
Why doesn't the replace
turn down when it goes
above the temperature I've
set?
Rather than constantly turning your replace up and down, the
temperature feature of your remote control is designed to eciently
give you a smooth maintenance of a comfortable temperature. With this
you may nd temperature uctuations beyond the set point to varying
degrees, depending on installation and room size.
