Thank you for purchasing the MP4 player SY-7494. In order to fully

benefit from this product, please follow the instructions in this user

manual very carefully. Store this user manual in a safe place for future

reference. We are sure your new MP4 player will satisfy your needs.

If at any time in the future you should need to dispose of this product

please note that: All batteries and accumulators need to be removed

from this product (Removal of Waste Batteries and Accumulators).

WARNING: When participating in the traffic listening to a

personal music player can make the listener less aware of

potential dangers such as approaching cars.

NOTE: The unit contains preloaded AMV converter software. Before

reformatting the unit or deleting any files, please make sure you back up

the AMV converter tool in order to be able to convert your video files.

Videos need to be converted to the correct size and format in order for it

to be compatible with the MP4 player.

2. Battery Information

This player has an internal, non-user-replaceable battery. For best

results, the first time you use the player, let it charge for about 2 hours

or until the battery status icon in the “Connect” screen shows that the

battery is fully charged (see picture below).

Note: The player continues to use the battery power after it has been

turned off. If the unit has not been used for a long period of time, the

battery might need to be charged before using it again. It is

recommended to recharge the player at least 2 – 3 times every 3 months

in order to maintain the battery life and performance.

a. Charging the Battery:

You can charge the player battery in two ways:

 Connect the player to your computer. Or,

 Use the USB power charger. (not included)

b. Connection and Charging:

Once you have connected the player to the computer / power charger,

then you will see the following screen on your player (see picture below)

 The battery icon will begin to indicate the charging process. Each bar

will move up to indicate the charge level (see the picture below).

Important: The battery does not charge when your computer is in sleep

mode. The USB port on most keyboards does not provide enough power

to charge the player. Connect the player to a USB 2.0 port on your

computer only to prevent the charge problem.

3. Connecting and Disconnecting the Player

You can connect the player with your computer to transfer media files

and recorded voice memos when necessary, and also to charge the

battery.

a. To Connect the Player

 To connect the USB player to your computer, plug the connector of

USB Cable into a USB port on your computer, and connect the other

end to the player, then the “Connect” screen will appear on the player

display.

 Now the player is ready for media files transfer with your computer.

The battery is being charged at the same time.

 You can transfer the media files by using the computer mouse using

drag and place, or copy and paste between the player and your

computer. Disconnect the player from the computer when you’re

done transfer. (See below section on how to disconnect the player).

b. To Disconnect the Player

It’s important not to disconnect the player while it’s syncing or

transferring files. Eject the player before disconnecting it.

 To eject the player, press and hold the M button for about 2 seconds,

the “Connect” screen will switch to “Main Menu” screen and it is now

safe to disconnect the player from your computer. Unplug the USB

cable from the player. Or,

 If you’re using a Windows PC, you can also eject the player using My

Computer or by clicking the “Safely Remove Hardware” icon in the

Windows system tray, select the corresponding name of USB Device

and choose “Stop” > choose “Confirm” > and “Confirm” the pop up

window which appears on your computer screen.

 If you’re using a Mac, you can also eject player by dragging the player

icon on the desktop to the Trash.

 Disconnect the USB cable from the player and computer by simply

removing it.

 If you accidentally disconnect the player without ejecting it,

reconnect it to your computer and sync again. However, some media

file may be lost in this process.

4. Using the player

Turning the player ON / OFF and use of the Main Menu.

 Press and hold the button for 3 – 4 seconds to turn ON the player,

then you will see the following main menu:

Music / Movie / Record / Voice / FM / Photo / Setup / eBook, will

appear on LCD after the Loading and Opening screen have been

displayed.

 To turn OFF the player, press and hold the button for 3 – 4

seconds.

5. Using the Setup Menu

You might need to set the date & time or change some default

settings to suit your needs in the setup sub menu before you start to use

the player.

 To go into the setup menu, from the main menu, choose “Setup” by

using the / buttons and then press the M button.

 You can go back to a previous menu by pressing the button while

in the setup menu. Or, press and hold the M button to return to the

main menu.

a. To Setup the “System time” (Date & Time):

 Choose “System time” by using the

/ buttons and then press

the M button, the date & time setting screen will appear.

 Press the “+” button, the year will be highlighted. To set the current

year use the the / buttons. Repeat the adjusting methods by

using “+” and / buttons once again to set the Month, Date,

Hour, Minute and seconds.

 Finally, you need to press the M button to confirm the adjustments

and return back to the Setup menu, If you do not do this, the date &

Time settings will not be memorized and you will need to adjust them

again.

b. To change the “LCD set”

You can set the backlight to illuminate the screen for a certain

amount of time or change the backlight to always ON whenever you turn

ON the player.

 To change the LCD backlight, choose the “LCD set” > choose “Dark

mode”, a level bar with number appears. Then choose between “0

(always on) / 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50

(seconds)”. Set the desired time by using the M and the /

buttons. Choose “0” to prevent the LCD backlight from turning off.

(Note: choosing this option decreases the battery performance)

c. To Change the “Language”

This player contains different OSD languages.

 To set the language, choose the “Language” option and then choose

which language by using the M and / buttons.

d. To Set the “Power Off” time

The Power Off setting can extend the time between battery charges

by turning OFF the player when you are not using the controls or when

there is no operation. The player also includes the sleep function.

 To set the power off time, choose “Power off”, then choose “Off

time”, a levels bar with numbers will appear, then choose between

“0 - 200 seconds” as you want by using the M and /

buttons.

 To set the sleep time, choose “Power off”, then choose “Sleep time”,

a level bar with number will appear, choose between “0 / 10 / 20

/30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 / 120 minutes”

as you want by using the M and / buttons.

e. To Change back to “Online mode” (Applicable depending on the

Model)

You might need to change the online mode when connecting it with a

computer system. In the sense that some operating systems (under

Windows 2K SP4) cannot support two drivers in one USB disk. The

multiple driver is selected by default on the unit. However, you can

change it when necessary.

 To change the type of disk, choose “Online mode” and then choose

between “Multiply driver / Normal only / Card only” by using

the M and / buttons.

f. To View the “Memory info”

You can view information about the memory status of player, such as

the amount of remaining memory, space available and the percentage of

memory which has been used.

 To view the status, choose “Memory info” by using the M and /

buttons. An information screen, remaining memory space

available and percentage of memory used, will appear on screen.

 To return to the setup menu or main menu press the button or

press and hold the M button

g. To “Format Device”

You might need to format device the device memory once in a while.

In some circumstances, the device memory may be corrupted, or you

may need to format the memory card if it’s used for the first time with

this device. However, you can format the device or memory card by the

following methods but note that all the data from the player will be lost

if this operation is carried out.

 Choose “Format Device” then choose “Format Disk / Format Card”

by using the M and / buttons, and then choose OK to

process or choose Cancel to exit and back to setup menu.

h. To View the “Firmware Version”

You might need to view the details about firmware information inside

the Player.

 Choose “Firmware version” by using the M and / buttons.

An information screen will appear on the display.

 To return to the setup menu or the main menu, press the button or

press and hold the M button.

i. To “Firmware Upgrade” (System Utility Tools required)

You might need to upgrade the firmware in order to keep the player

up to date and always at its best performance. Please follow the

instruction posted by the dealer (if any) or follow the instruction from the

System Utility Tools if provided. It is not recommended to do this if

the player is working properly.

j. To “Exit”

 Select Exit to go back to the main menu. Or, press and hold the M

button to go back to the main menu.

6. Using the Music Menu

You can use the music player to playback music files; WMA and MP3

formats are supported by the player. To open the music player in the

Main Menu:

 From the main menu, choose “Music” by using the / and M

buttons, a “Music Now Playing” screen appears.

a. To Playback Music

 In the “Music Now Playing” screen, press the button to start

playback.

 Press button to pause the playing music. Press it again to play.

b. Play Previous or Next track

 Press the button to play the next track.

 Press the button to play the previous track.

c. Use Fast-Forward or Fast-Backward

 Press and hold to fast-forward

 Press and hold to fast-backward (rewind)

d. Adjust the volume level

 While the music is being played, press the button to increase the

volume level. Upon pressing, a volume control bar will appear on

screen.

 While the music is being played, press the button to decrease the

volume level. Upon pressing, a volume control bar will appear on

screen.

e. Use of Lyric Display

This player supports “*.LRC” lyric files and lyrics can be displayed in

a synchronous manner while playing music and if the music file has lyrics

included. To find out whether or not the music file contains lyrics, the

color dot beside the Lyric Message icon will be in to green color

instead of red in the “Music Now Playing” screen.

 To playback music with lyrics press and hold the M button to enter the

lyric display mode and the lyrics will display and move up accordingly

with the music being played.

 Press the M button to cancel the lyrics display and go back to the

“Music Now Playing” screen.

7. Use the Music Submenu in Music Stop Mode

You might need to select folders for music play and delete music files.

To do this:

a. Local Folder

 In the “Music Now Playing” screen, press the button to stop the

playing music if unit is in playback mode, then press the M button to

open the Music Submenu.

 In the Music Submenu screen, choose “Local folder” and a list menu

appears. Then select the folder and / or choose a music file by using

the / and M button.

 The screen will go back to the “music now playing” screen once a

music file is selected. Press the button to play.

b. Delete a file

 In the Music Submenu screen, choose “Delete file” and a list menu

appears. Then choose which music file you want to delete by using

the / and M buttons.

 Once a file is selected, press the M button and choose Yes to confirm

or No to cancel the deletion of the file.

c. Delete All

 In the Music Submenu screen, choose “Delete all” then select “Yes /

No” by using the / buttons.

 Once “YES” or “NO” appears on screen, press the M button to

confirm.

 All music files will be deleted once YES is selected and confirmed. A

“Deleting” screen appears when the deleting process is in progress.

Once this has been completed an “Empty disk!” message will be

shown on screen for a few seconds.

d. Exit

 Select Exit to return to the “music now playing” screen.

8. Using the Music Submenu in Music Playing Mode

To change settings:

a. To Set Repeat

 In music playing mode, press the M button, and a Music Submenu

appears. Then choose the “Repeat” option. Choose between

“Normal / Repeat one / Folder / Repeat folder / Repeat all /

Random / Intro” as you desire by using the / and M

buttons.

b. To Change Equalizer

 In music playing mode, press the M button, and a Music Submenu

appears. Then choose “Equalizer”, and select amongst “Natural /

Rock / Pop / Classic / Soft / Jazz / DBB”.

c. To set Replay Mode

Set Repeat A-B:

 In the Music Submenu, press the M button, and a list menu appears,

then choose the “Replay mode” option. Choose “Replay”, a letter “A”

will be flashing in the “Music Now Playing” screen, and then press the

button to select the starting point (“A”).

 Then a letter “B” will be flashing once “A” is selected, use the

button again to select the ending point (“B”) which you want by using

the button. The selected time of the track between A – B will now

be repeating.

 However, the repeating time and the replay gap time depends on the

set values of the Replay Time and Replay Gap which are mentioned in

the below sections.

 To create another A – B distance of track to repeat, press the

button again and follow the above steps. A new A – B replay gap will

be created and repeated.

 To cancel the replay gap A – B function, press the M button. Or press

the button to pause.

Set Replay Times:

 In music playing mode, press the M button, a Music Sub-menu

appears. Then select “Replay times” and choose between “1 / 2 / 3

/ 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10” as desired by using the / and M

buttons. The Player will replay those music files the selected amount

of times.

Replay Gap:

 In music playing mode, press the M button, a Music Sub-menu

appears. Then select “Replay Gap” and then choose between “1 / 2

/ 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10 second(s)” as desired by using the /

and M buttons. The replay gap time in between music to music or

in repeat A- B will replay and stop according the selected number of

time.

d. Exit

 Select Exit to go back to the “music now playing” screen.

9. Using the Movie Menu

a. To Play a Movie

 From the Main Menu, choose “Movie” by using the / and M

buttons, a “Movie Now Playing” screen appears.

 In the “Movie Now Playing” screen, press the key to start

playback.

 Press the button to pause and to go back to the “Movie Now

Playing” screen. Press it again, the video will continue.

b. To Play Previous or Next Video

 Press the button to play the next movie file.

 Press the button to play the previous movie file.

c. Use Fast-Forward or Fast-Backward (rewind)

 Press and hold the button to fast-forward.

 Press and hold the button to fast-backward (rewind)

d. Adjust the Volume Level

 In movie playing mode, press the button to increase the volume

level.

 In movie playing mode, press the button to decrease the volume

level.

10. Using the Movie Submenu

You might need to select folders, delete movie files and set repeats

for movie play. You can make changes during playback in the “Movie Now

playing” screen. To do this:

 In “Movie Now Playing” screen, press the M button to enter the movie

submenu.

a. Local Folder

 In the movie submenu screen, choose “Local Folder”, a file list menu

appears. Then select folder and / or choose a desired movie file to

play by using the / and M buttons.

 Once a movie file has been selected the display will return to the

“Movie now playing” screen. Then press the button to start

playback.



b. Delete Files

 In the movie submenu screen, choose “Delete file” a file list menu

appear, and then choose which movie file that you want to delete by

using the / buttons.

 Once file is selected, press the M button and choose “Yes” to confirm

or “No” to cancel.

c. Delete All

 In the Movie Submenu screen, choose “Delete all” then select “Yes /

No” by using the / buttons.

 Once “YES” or “NO” appears on screen, press the M button to

confirm.

 All movie files will be deleted once YES is selected and confirmed. A

“Deleting” screen appears when the deleting process is in progress.

Once this has been completed an “Empty disk!” message will be

shown on screen for a few seconds.

d. Repeat

 In the movie submenu, select “Repeat” and then choose between

“Normal / Repeat one / Folder / Repeat folder / Repeat all /

Random / Intro” as desired by using the / and M buttons.

e. Exit

 Select Exit to go back to the “Movie now playing” screen.

11. Convert Video files into AMV

This tool can be used to transform those video files into AMV files on

the computer before you upload them to you player.

 To install this video converting tool to you computer, click “Utilities >

video conversion software” in the provided CD. (or stored in your

Player)

 Select “Setup” to start the install program, the software will

automatically install itself into your computer.

 After the installation is done, open the AMV Video converter on the

PC

Noted: This program is used to convert video files into AMV format.

Currently only AMV format is supported.

 Run “AMV Video Converter”, click to choose the folder where to

save the AMV files once they have been converted. Then click to

select the folder where the original files are. The original file will show

in the file window (preview) once selected.

 To change the conversion settings, press on the icon when it is

highlighted into . Another dialogue box opens up where you can

change the settings of the conversion.

 Click to start converting.

 After conversion, the AMV files will play automatically for preview.

 The converted AMV file is ready to transfer, you can simply copy and

place those converted AMV files into the media player.

Note: Only pixels in 160x120 can be supported.

12. Using the Record Menu

You can use the player as a Voice Recorder and recording voice

memos using the built-in microphone.

a. To Start Recording Voice Memo

 From main menu, select the “Record” option by using the /

and M buttons, a “Now Recording” screen appears.

b. To Start / Pause Recording

 Press the button to start the recording and the recording will

commence

 Press the button to pause the recording and recording time will

stop and begin to flash on screen. Press it again and the recording

and time will resume

c. To Save and Stop Recording Files

 Press and hold the M button, to save the recorded file into the

memory.

13. Using the Record Submenu (in Stop Mode)

You might need to change the folder locations where you want to

store the record file and / or change record quality to better compression

values.

 In the “Now Recording” screen in stop mode, press the M button, and

a Record Sub-menu appears.

a. Local folder

 In the record submenu, select “Local folder” and then choose the

folder name which you want to save the record file by using the /

and M buttons.

 Once the folder name has been selected, press and hold the M button,

then the folder location is changed and the screen will go back to

“Now Recording” screen. Now you can see the folder name is changed

in the Record Folder icon in the “Now Recording” screen.

b. Record Type

 In record submenu, choose “Record type”, then choose “32K BPS /

64K BPS / 128K BPS / 256K BPS” values as you desired by using

/ and M buttons.

c. Exit

 Select Exit to go back to the “now recording” screen.

14. Use Voice Menu

Enter into this item to hear your recordings and manage the files.

 From the main menu, select “Voice” menu by using the / and

M buttons, a “Voice Now Playing” screen will appear.

a. To Play and Pause Recorded Voice Memos

 In the “Voice Now Playing” screen, press the button to start to

play the recorded file.

 Press the button to pause the playing file.

b. To Play the Previous or Next File

 Press the button to play the next file.

 Press the button to play the previous file.

c. To Fast-Forward or Fast-Backward (rewind)

 Press and hold the button to fast-forward

 Press and hold the button to fast-backward (rewind)

d. Adjusting the volume level

e. Adjust the Volume Level

 In playback mode, press the button to increase the volume level.

 In playback mode, press the button to decrease the volume level.

15. Use Voice Submenu in Stop Mode

You might need to change some settings as desired for playing Voice

files, you can make changes during playback mode at Voice Now Playing

screen

a. Local Folder

 In the “Voice Now Playing” screen, press the button to pause /

stop the current playing file. During playback mode if you press the M

button, the voice player submenu opens up.

 In the Voice submenu screen, select “Local folder” and a list menu

appears. Then select a folder and / or choose a voice file by using the

/ and M buttons.

 The screen will go back to the “music now playing” screen once a

music file has been selected. Then press the button to start

playback.

b. Delete a File

 In the voice submenu screen, select “Delete file” and a list menu

appears. Then choose which voice file you want to delete by using the

/ and M buttons.

 Once a file is selected, press the M button and choose Yes to confirm

or No to cancel.

c. Delete All

 In the voice sub-menu screen, select “Delete all” and then choose

“Yes / No” by using the / buttons.

 Once “YES” or “NO” appear on screen, press the M button to confirm.

 All music files will be deleted once YES is selected and confirmed, a

“Deleting” screen appears for a while which indicates that the

deleting process is in progress. Once it has been completed, the

screen will show a “Empty disk!” message will appear.

d. Exit

 Select Exit to go back to the “music now playing” screen.

16. Use Voice Sub-menu in Playing Mode

To change settings:

a. Repeat

 In the voice playing mode, press the M button, and a Music

Sub-menu appears. Then select “Repeat” and then choose “Normal

/ Repeat one / Folder / Repeat folder / Repeat all / Random /

Intro” as desired by using the / and M buttons.

b. Replay Mode

Set Repeat A-B:

 In the Voice Submenu, press the M button, and a list menu appears,

then choose the “Replay mode” option. Choose “Replay”, a letter

“A” will be flashing in the “Voice Now Playing” screen, and then press

the

button to select the starting point (“A”).

 Then a letter “B” will be flashing once “A” is selected, use the

button again to select the ending point (“B”) which you want by using

the button. The selected time of the track between A – B will now

be repeating.

 However, the repeating time and the replay gap time depends on the

set values of the Replay Time and Replay Gap which are mentioned in

the below sections.

 In voice playing mode, press the M button, a Music Sub-menu

appears. Then select “Replay Gap” and then choose between “1 / 2

/ 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10 second(s)” as desired by using the /

and M buttons. The replay gap time in between music to music or

in repeat A- B will replay and stop according the selected number of

time.

c. Exit

 Select Exit to go back to the “music now playing” screen.

Note: Press and hold the M button will go back to Main Menu directly.

17. Use FM (Radio) Menu

This player uses the wire of any earphone set as an antenna for FM

radio. Plug in the earphone set into the earphone output jack in order to

be able to listen to FM radio.

 From the main menu, select “FM” and by using the / and M

buttons, a “Radio Tune” screen appears.

a. Adjusting the Volume Level

 While the music is being played, press the button to increase the

volume level. Upon pressing, a volume control bar will appear on

screen.

 While the music is being played, press the button to decrease the

volume level. Upon pressing, a volume control bar will appear on

screen.

b. Manually search FM radio stations

 Press the / buttons for searching down / up to receive the

next station. Each press will step down / up by 0.1MHz. Press the

/ buttons quickly until you have tuned to the desired radio

frequency. (To save the manually tuned station, please refer to item

18-a mentioned below)

18. Use of the FM Radio Menu

 In the radio tune screen, press the M button to call up the FM Radio

menu, a list screen showing “Save / Record / Delete / Delete All

/ Auto Search / Exit” appears. (for 8 – 10 seconds)

 Press the / buttons to choose one of them and then press the

M button to enter.

a. Save (save the manually tuned station)

 In the FM Radio menu, choose the “Save” option to store the tuned

radio station into player’s memory. The tuned radio station will be

stored in the last empty location in the channel list. The stored

channel number, example CH01, will show on right side at the bottom

of the Radio Tune screen.
