CALLER’S DETAILS AS THE PHONE
STARTS TO RING
For use with Caller Display Service.
Caller Display Service requires set-up
by BT or your Cable Telephone Company.
IMPORTANT
In order to function, this product requires Caller Display service
from British Telecom or your Cable telephone company. If you are
unsure, please call BT on Freefone 0800 800 150 (Residential) or
Freefone 0800 800 152 (Business). This service may take up to
two days to activate.

! The VA182 Announcing Caller ID unit.
! A power supply 230V AC to 9V DC out.
! 1 x Telephone line cord - to connect the VA182 to the
telephone wall socket.
! User guide.

1. INSTALLATION
! Plug the double adapter end of the phone cable into the
telephone line wall socket and the other end into the "LINE"
socket at the back of the unit.
! Connect the telephone line cord into the double adapter on the
phone cable as supplied.
! Plug one end of the AC adapter into the electric socket and
the other end into the back of the unit.
Note: Batteries cannot be used.

3. SETTINGS
3.1 Entering the setting menu
All the settings of the unit with the exception of the volume level,
can be set in the setting menu.
! Press and hold the “MODE” button and then press the
“REC.” button at the same time. The display will show
“RESET VXXX”.
3.2 Resetting the unit
This operation will reset all the settings to the factory default
settings, and also clear all the memories at the same time.
! Enter the setting menu.
! Press “C” twice. “OK” will be displayed, and the
unit resets.
3.3 Select Language
This Caller ID unit supports 11 languages.
! Enter the setting menu.
! Press “MODE” once, the display will show the language
in use (default language is ENGLISH). To change the
language, press “REC.”. To confirm the change, press
“C” or “MODE”.
3.4 Setting the volume
You can adjust the volume level at any time by using the
volume switch. Three different volume levels are available
(Hi, Lo and Off).
4. OPERATION
4.1 Incoming calls
When you subscribe to Caller Display service from BT /
Cable, the caller's phone number will appear on the display.
The caller's name will also be shown on the display if you
add this to the directory. The date and time of the incoming
call will also be shown and recorded, which can be reviewed
from the Call Log.
Indications:
a. "NEW"
It is a new incoming call.
b. "RPT"
It is a repeated incoming call.
c. "NUMBER UNKNOWN"
The incoming call being sent by a telephone provider that
doesn't offer the Caller ID service or their service is not
compatible with yours.
d. "NUMBER WITHHELD”
The caller's number cannot be displayed because the
calling party have restricted their number from being
sent to the receiving party.
e. “INTERNATIONAL”
Caller is from overseas.
f. “PAYPHONE”
Caller is using a payphone.
4. THE CALL LOG
4.2.1 To browse the Call Log
! In the standby mode, press FORWARD button [No.4] or
BACKWARD button [No.5] to scroll through the Call Log.
! Pressing FORWARD button [No.4] lets you view the oldest
call first; pressing BACKWARD button [No.5] lets you view
the most recent call first.
! You can listen to the recorded name at any time by
pressing "REC." [No.1].
4.2.2 To erase calls in the Call Log
You can erase the calls in the Call Log.
a. Erase one by one
When the desired number is shown on the display, press "C"
[No.3] twice, then the entry will be deleted.
b. Erase all
In standby mode, press and hold "C" [No.3] for 2 seconds,
"CLEAR ALL?" will be shown on the display. Now press "C"
[No.3] again to delete all the call logs in the log.
4.3 Phone book operations
4.3.1 To save an entry into the phone book
You can store up to 30 phone numbers and names into the phone
directory. (Max 15 characters per entry)
When recording a name to a call in the Call Log, the call will
automatically be stored into the phone book. (refer to 4.4.1 (a))
NOTE: When the memory is already full a “beep - beep” sound will
be heard when you try to save a new entry.
There are two other ways to store a number into the phone
directory.
a. Manually enter a number and name into the phone book
In standby mode, press “MODE” until “ENTER NUMBER” is
displayed.
! Press the FORWARD/BACKWARD button to select digits.
Use “REC.” to move the cursor to the right, and “C” to
delete the last number and move the cursor to the left.
! Press “MODE” to confirm the number.
! “ENTER NAME” will appear on the display. Press “REC.” to
start editing the name.
! Press the FORWARD/BACKWARD button to select the
desired character/ symbol. Use “REC.” to move the cursor
to the right, and “C” to delete the last character/ symbol
and move the cursor to the left.
! Press “MODE” to confirm the entered name, and then
press “MODE” to go back to the standby mode.
b. Copy from the Call Log into the Phone directory
! Select the desired call from the Call Log.
! Press “MODE” until “ENTER NUMBER” is displayed.
The number will also be shown.
! Edit the number if necessary, press “MODE” to confirm the
number. Then “ENTER NAME” will appear on the display.
! Edit the name if necessary.
! Press “MODE” to confirm thee entered name, and then
press “MODE” again to back to the standby mode.
4.3.2 To browse the Phone book
! In standby mode, press “MODE” once.
! “PHONE BOOK” will appear on the display. By pressing the
FORWARD/BACKWARD button. you can scroll through the
phone book.
! If there is recorded name linked with the phone number, it
will be announced automatically.
! You can listen to the recorded name at any time by
pressing "REC.”
4.3.3 To edit phone directory entries
! In standby mode, press “MODE” once.
! “PHONE BOOK” will appear on the display. Press the
FORWARD/BACKWARD button to look for the number that
you want to edit.
! When the desired record is reached, press “MODE” to start
editing the record. The display will show “ENTER NUMBER”.
! Edit the number if necessary.
! Press “MODE” to confirm the number. “ENTER NAME” will
appear on the display.
! Edit the name, then press “MODE” to confirm the entered
name.
! “RECORD NAME” will appear on the display. Press and hold
“REC.” for 2 seconds to re-record the name, or press
“MODE” to go back to standby mode.
4.3.4 To erase Phone directory entries
! In standby mode, press “MODE” once.
! “PHONE BOOK” will appear on the display. Use the
FORWARD/BACKWARD button to look for the number that
you want to erase from the phone book.
! Press “C” twice to delete the call shown on the display.
4.4 Name Announcement
You can link name recordings to 20 phone numbers, each recording
has a maximum duration of 2 seconds. When the number calls in
again, the recorded name will be announced. If the memory for the
name recording is already full, a “beep-beep” sound will be heard.
4.4.1 To record a name announcment.
There are three ways to record an announcment:
a. Record a name to an entry in the Call Log or Phone directory.
! Browse the Call Log of the phone directory until the
display shows a caller’s telephone number.
! Press and hold “REC.” for 2 seconds until the unit plays a
“Beep” sound, then you can begin to record 2 seconds of
name announcement.
! After a recording is finished, the unit plays back the
recording you have made.
! To re-record the name, repeat the last 2 steps.
b. Record a name when manually entering an entry into the Phone
directory.
! Enter the phone number and the name into the phone
directory see section 4.3.1.
! “RECORD NAME” will appear on the display after both the
phone number and name are entered.
! Press and hold “REC.” for 2 seconds until the unit plays a
“Beep” sound, then you can begin to record 2 seconds of
name announcement.
! After a recording is finished, the unit plays the recording
you have made.
! To re-record the name, repeat the last 2 steps.
c. Record a name to an entry in Phone directory.
! Select the desired name / number in the phone directory.
! Press and hold “REC.” for 2 seconds until the unit plays a
“Beep” sound, then you can begin to record 2 seconds of
name announcement.
! After a recording is finished, the unit plays back the
recording you have made.
! To re-record the name, repeat the last 2 steps.
4.4.2 To delete a name announcement
! Browse the phone directory until the desired record is
displayed.
! Press “MODE” until “RECORD NAME” is shown in the
display.
! Press “C” twice. There will be a “Beep” sound after the
name announcement is deleted. The name and number of
the entry will be retained.
4.5 Call back
You can directly call back numbers that are saved in the memory,
either in the call log or in the phone directory without dialing the
number yourself.
! Make sure that the local area code and the area prefix are
correctly programmed before you use this function.
! When the number is displayed in the Call Log or in the
phone directory, press the "MODE" button for 2 seconds
until “DIALING” appears on the display, then the desired
number will then be dialed automatically.
! Pick up the handset of the connected phone when
“PICK UP HANDSET” is displayed.
4.6 Multi-Function LED
The LED indicates as the following status:-

5. WARRANTY
Manufacturers One Year Limited Warranty
You must have proof of purchase to exchange the product. A sales
receipt or other document showing the date that you purchased
the product is considered proof of purchase.
What is Covered?
Coverage begins the day you buy your product. For one year
thereafter, a defective or inoperative product will be replaced with a
new, renewed or comparable product at no charge to you. A
replacement product is covered only for the original warranty
period. When the warranty on the original product expires, the
warranty on the replacement product also expires.
What is Excluded?
Your warranty does not cover:
! Labour charges for installation or setup of the product and
adjustment of customer controls on the product.
! Product replacement because of misuse, accident,
unauthorised repair or other cause not within the control
of Comtech.
! A product that requires modification or adaptation to
enable it to operate in any country other than that for
which it was designed, manufactured, approved and/or
authorised, or repair of products damaged by these
modifications.
! Incidental or consequential damages resulting from the
product.

! Do not overload wall outlets and extension cords, as this
can result in the risk of fire or electric shock.
! Never push objects of any kind into this product through
cabinet slots, as they may touch dangerous voltage points
or short out parts, resulting in the risk of fire or electric
shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.
! To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble
this product, but take it to a qualified serviceman, when
service or repair work is required. Opening or removing
covers may expose you to dangerous voltage or other
risks. Incorrect re-assembly can cause electric shock when
this product is subsequently used.
! Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer
servicing to a qualified service personnel under the
