sionalsoundingaudiowithoutthehassleofalargerecordingrig.The
SOUNDonSOUNDisgreatforsongwriterssketchingoutideas,guitar
players,recordingbandrehearsalsorconcerts.
TheSOUNDonSO

ablesyoutorecordperformancesthrougha
builtinmicrophone.Italsofeaturesdirectrecordingfromaguitarcon
nectedtothededicatedguitarinputjack,linerecordingfromanexternal
audiodevice,andrecordingthroughanexternalmicrophoneconnected
tothemicrophonejack.TherecordersupportstheWAV(44
.1kHz,16bi
t)
audioformat.TheSOUNDonSOUNDalsoallowsyoutooverdubby
recordingandmixinginputsignalswhileplayingbackthefile.Thisfunc
tionisveryusefulwhenyouwanttousetheunitasasimplemultitrack
recorder.

Inserting or Replacing Batteries
TheSOUNDonSOUNDrequirestwoAAsizebatteries.Korgrecom
mendsthatyouuse alkaline(LR6)ornickelmetalhydride(NiMH)cell
batteries.
Donotcombinenewand usedbatteriesordifferent
typesofbatteries.
1. Make surethatthepowerisswitchedoff.AllLED
indicators,andthedisplayshouldalsobeoff.
2. Removethebatterycasecover.
3. Ifthebatteriesareinthecase,removethemfromthe
case.
4. Insert twoAAsizebatteriesintothecasewiththe+
and‐endsinthecorrectorientation.
5. Replacetheba
tterycaseco
ver.
Replacethebatterieswithnewoneswhenbattery
powergetslow.
Whenthebatteriesexpire,removethemfromthe
caseimmediately.Ifyoudon’tplantousetheunit
foralongperiodoftime,removethebatteries.
Batterylifevariesdependingonthetypeandmanufacturerofthebattery
andusage.Italsovariesdependingonthetypeandmanufacturerofthe
memorycardusedanditscapacity.
Batterylife(whenthebacklightandLEDindicatorsareturnedoff)
Togetaccuratereadingsofremainingba tterypower,youmustspecify
thetypeofbatterythat isinusebyaccessingtheBATT ERYpageinthe
MISCcategoryinMenumode(seepage44).

Inserting or Removing a Memory Card
1. Makesurethatthepowerisswitchedoff.AllLED

3. Toremovethememorycard,pushthecardin
gentlyusingthetipofyourfingeruntilthecard
clicks,thenreleaseyourfinger.
4. Afterthememo

isejected,removeitfrom
theslot.
Formoreinformationonhandlingmemory
cards,pleaserefertotheinstructionmanualthatcamewiththecard.
Besuretopushthememorycardintotheslotsecurelyinthecorrect
orientationwiththecorrectsidefacingup.Donotpushinamemory
cardforcefully.Insertthecardintoth
eslotgently.
Donotinsta
llorremoveamemorycardwhilethepowertotheunitis
on.Otherwise,dataintheunitoronthememorycardmaybelost,or
thememorycardmaybecomeunusable.

Ifyouusedamemorycardwithyourcomputer,cellphone,digitalcamera
orotherdevice,youcannotuseitasiswiththeSOUNDonSOUND.You
mustproperlyformat such acardbeforeyoucanuseitwiththerecorder.

Beforeconnectingtheunittoanotherdevice,besuretoturndownthe
volumeoftheunitaswellastheotherdevice,andturntheunitoffto
preventmalfunctionordamagetothespeakers.
1. Toturnonthepowertotheunit,pressandhold
downthepowerbuttonuntilthedisplayturnson.
2. Toturnoffthepowertotheunit,firstmakesure
thatplaybackorrecordingisstopped,thenpress
andholddownthepowerbuttonuntiltheunit
displaysthePWROFFdialog.

TheSOUNDonSOUNDautomaticallyscanstodeterminewhetheror
nottheGUITARIN,LINEandMI

ksareconnected.Iftheunit
detectsaconnectedjack,itwillautomaticallyassignthejackasthe
inputsource.Therefore,donotconnectanythingtojacksotherthan
theoneyouwanttouseforaudioinput.Ifmultiplejacksareconnected
toexternaldevices,theunitwillsel

Beforeyoustartrecordingasong,youmustcreatea
newsongfiletorecordwith.

•Ifyouhavenotrecordedanysongsafterfor

•Ifthereareonlyasmallnumberofrecorded
songs(forexample,ifthesongindicator“002/003appearsonthe
LCD),youcanpressthebuttontosel

emptysongfile(in
thiscase,“NEW”),thenpresstheRecordbutton.
Ifnumeroussongsexist(forexample,ifthesongindicator“002/025”is
displayedontheLCD)andifyouwanttostartrecordingimmediately,
pressandholddowntheStopbuttonandpresstheRecordbutton.
IftheRecordLEDindicatorflashesquickly(abouttwicepersec
ond)afteryoupresstheRecordbutton,theunitisinRecordReady
modeforanewsong.
IftheRecordLEDindicatorflashesslowly(aboutoncepersecond)
afteryoupresstheRecordbutton,youmustselectanewsongfile
(see“Ov

bbing(SoundOnSound)”onpage17).Createand
selectanewsongfile.
2. Tostartrecording,whiletheunitisinRecordReadymode(andthe
RecordLEDindicatorisflashing),presstheRecordbuttonagainto
startrecording.TheRecordLEDindicatorwilllightupsteadily.

alreadybeenrecorded.Duringoverdubbing,twotypesoffilesarecre

mixfilethatcombinestheplaybacksoundandadditionalrecordings.The

YoucaneasilyburnanaudioCDfromtheseoverdubbedsongsbycopying

YoucanalsocreateaWAVfileforeachoriginalmaterialfileplus2mix
filebyfinalizingtheoverdubbedsong.YoucanedittheseWAVfilesusing

About the space required for overdubbing on a memory card
Duringoverdubbing,theSOUNDonSOUNDstoreseachoriginal
recordingmaterialfilethatwasrecorded(seepage47).
Ifyouplantooverdubfrequently,youshoulduseahighcapacity
memorycard.Forexample,ifyoumakeathreeminuterecording,and
thenoverdubthreeminutesthreetimes,thespaceoname
