SPECIFICATIONS AND PARTS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE FOR IMPROVEMENT.
This product features a maximum bit diameter of 28 mm, the capability to drill holes in concrete and other hard
materials, the mounting SDS-plus shank bits," and three modes (Rotation + Hammering, Rotation only, and
Hammering only) that enable chipping and groove-cutting work. This 3-mode type of product offers improved
drilling/chipping performance, as well as reduced product size and weight. This product together with the dust-
collection type of product (DH 28PD) developed at the same time forms a continuous lineup of D-shaped handle
rotary hammer drills in order to promote the sharing of these products.
(1) Rotation and hammering function
• Drilling anchor holes. Drilling holes in concrete, tile, brick and similar materials. Large hole boring with core bit.
(2) Rotation only function
• Drilling holes in steel and wood (with chuck adapter). Tightening machine screws and wood screws
(with chuck adapter).
(3) Hammering only function
• Stripping mortar and tiles. Demolishing and chiseling of concrete. Grooving and cutting of bricks.

DH 28PC
Highest demolition performance in its class
Hitachi achieved the highest demolition performance in this class of product by optimizing the hammering
properties.
Equipped with a reversing switch
This product is equipped with a reversing pushbutton switch.
The user can select either forward rotation (clockwise) or backward rotation (counterclockwise) by simply
pressing the pushbutton.
Refer to the Technical Data and Service Manual for the model indicated below.
3-mode changing and variable lock mechanism for easy
working-angle adjustment of chisels, etc.
This product adopts Hitachi's unique mode selection mechanism: two standard modes of "Rotation +
hammering" and "Rotation" and one additional mode of "Hammering." These modes enables not only light
chiseling work using bull points but also heavy work using cold chisels and cutters such as groove digging
and cornering work, thereby expanding the range of product use.
The user can easily mount a bit in any of 12 angle positions by simply setting the change lever to the
"neutral" position and turning the bit.
Idle striking prevention mechanism with catch-ring method
This product adopts a catch-ring type of idle hammering prevention mechanism.
When the bit tool of the product is detached from an object under no load, air flows in and out through
cylinder air holes to maintain uniform air pressure in the chamber. As a result, the hammering action stops.
In this case, the projection at the tip of the striker fits into the O-ring (A) provided between damper holders
(A) and (B) to prevent the air holes from being blocked by the recoiling striker.

One-push type of bit mounting
This product adopts a one-push quick bit mounting system without needing grip operation.
First, fully insert the bit tool into the front cap hole until it stops, and then turn the bit tool while slightly
pushing the bit tool. When the bit tool catches, push the bit tool there until it stops.
Internal pressure adjustment mechanism
An air passage is provided to connect inside the crankcase to the outside with a felt packing in the air
passage. This passage only allows air (pressure) to pass and suppresses fluctuations in internal pressure.
This stabilizes the hammering action and prevents idle striking and the leakage of grease.
Easy-to-operate and double-molded switch handle and
side handle
The switch handle and side handle both feature a two-layer structure in which the plastic resin molded
base is fully coated with a soft plastic resin. This gives the switch and side handles a soft feeling, and
improves handle operability.

1. Safety instructions
In the interest of promoting the safest and most efficient use of the Model DH 28PC Rotary Hammers by all
of our customers, it is very important that when concluding a sale that the salesperson carefully ensure that
the buyer seriously recognizes the importance of the Handling Instructions, and fully understands the
precautions listed on the Caution Plate and Name Plate attached to each tool.
A. Handling Instructions
Although every effort is made in each step of design, manufacture, and inspection to provide protection
against safety hazards, the dangers inherent in the use of any electric tool cannot be completely eliminated.
Accordingly, the Handling Instructions list general precautions and suggestions on the use of electric power
tools, and specific precautions and suggestions on the use of rotary hammers to enhance the safe, efficient
use of the tool by customers. Salespersons must be thoroughly familiar with the Handling Instructions in
order to offer appropriate guidance to the customer during sales promotion activities.
B. Caution Plate
The Model DH 28PC unit is provided with a Caution Plate (illustrated below) that lists basic safety
precautions on use of the tool. Carefully ensure that the customer fully understands and follows these
precautions before using the tool.

1. Grease replacement procedures
The hammering section and gear change section use different types of grease. Grease need not be
replenished unless the tool is disassembled for repair or grease is leaking due to a damaged seal.
A special grease is used for the hammering section. After disassembling the hammering section (inside the
cylinder case and crank case), carefully wipe old grease off the parts and fill the crank case (on the
connecting rod side) with 25 g of grease and the crank case (on the cylinder side) with 5 g. Be careful not to
overfill with an excessive amount of grease, which could cause hammering failure.
The gear change section (inside the gear cover) uses Hitachi Motor Grease No. 29. The proper amount of
grease is 15 g. Never use the special grease for the hammering section in the gear change section.
Otherwise, the special grease will leak into the motor section and cause subsequent trouble. Periodically
change the grease in the slip clutch. Fully fill the slip clutch with Cosmos Molybdenum Grease No. 2.
2. Structure of the Model DH 28PC Rotary Hammer
• Torque transmission
The rotational force of the bevel gear is transmitted to the cylinder through the clutch and rotates the
cylinder. The front side of the cylinder also serves as a drill bit holder. The drill bit inserted into the cylinder
is coupled with two key rails and one steel ball to transmit the rotation.

3. “Three-Mode” Changeover Mechanism
The user can select "Rotation + Hammering," "Rotation only," or "Hammering" mode by operating the mode
change lever of the product. Each of the three modes is explained below.
Operate the change lever while pressing the pushbutton switch.
• Rotation and hammering
Set the change lever to the "Rotation + hammering"( mark) position.
The claw of the bevel gear engages with the claw of the clutch. Rotational force is transmitted to the
cylinder coupled with the clutch and rotates the bit. At this time, cylinder air hole B is blocked by the slide
sleeve. When the bit is pressed against an object, the striker blocks cylinder air hole A to form an air
chamber between the piston and striker. Changes in air pressure inside the air chamber cause the striker to
move. Hammering force is thus transmitted to the second hammer and then to the bit tool.
• Hammering only
Set the change lever to the "Hammering only" ( mark) position.
The bevel gear disengages from the clutch to cut off the transmission of rotational force. The spline in the
inner periphery of the lock sleeve engages with the spline on the end surface of the clutch. This locks both
cylinder rotation and bit rotation at the same time.
At this time, cylinder air hole B is blocked by the slide sleeve. When the bit is pressed against an object, the
striker blocks cylinder air hole A to form an air chamber between the piston and striker. Changes in air
pressure inside the air chamber cause the striker to move. Hammering force is thus transmitted to the
second hammer and then to the bit tool.

• Rotation only
Set the change lever to the "Rotation only" ( mark) position.
The claw of the bevel gear engages with the claw of the clutch. Rotational force is transmitted to the
cylinder coupled with the clutch and rotates the bit. The slide sleeve moves to the front end side as the lock
sleeve moves there. This keeps cylinder air hole B open. As a result, air pressure inside the air chamber
remains the same and hammering force is not transmitted.
• Neutral
This product has a Neutral mode to be used to determine the working position of a bit tool such as a cold
chisel.
Set the change lever to the "Neutral" ( mark) position.
The bevel gear disengages from the clutch and cuts off the transmission of rotational force. The lock sleeve
also disengages from the clutch so that the cylinder can rotate freely. In this state, the user can turn a bit
tool to the desired working position.
