Snowbear

snowplowmountsareuniquebecausetheyuseexistingholesandattachmentpointsonyourvehiclesframe.Useonly
Snowbear
®
CertifiedmountswithyourSnowbear
®
personalsnowplow.
Allofthemountkitshavebeendesignedusingmanufacturer’sframespecificationsaswellasactualframemeasurements.However
basedonourexperience,weknowthatthesemeasurementsarenotalwaysthesameandcaneasilyvaryby¼”ormore.
Wehaveattemptedtocompensateforsome
oftheseinconsistenciesbyprovidingslotsinoursupportbracketswhereverpossible.You
mayhoweverstillneedtoadjusttheholesinyourmountingbrackets,orvehicleframe.Thiscanbeeasilydonebyusingafile,asmall
grinder,ordrill.
Beforebeginningyourinstallationchecktheassemblydrawing
insideoftheboxtoconfirmthatyouhavethepropermountforyour
vehicle.Theaccessorypackageofyourvehicle(e.g.XLT,Custom,Sport,ExtendedCab,SLT,etc.)does notaffecttheframespecifications.
Manufacturerstendtohavemanymodels,butfewplatforms.Ourmountsaredesignedaroundtheseframesandplatforms.
Installation:
Manycustomersfindthatthemountinstallationisintimidatingbecausetheyarenotfamiliarwiththeundersideoftheirvehicles. In
general,amountingharnessconsistsofacrossmember(shippedwithyourplowhardware)andasetofcustombracketstoattachthe
crossmembertothe
vehicle.
Beginbylooselyattachingthebracketstotheframeofthevehicle,thenlooselyattachthecrossͲmembertothetwobrackets.
Becarefulnottopinchanywiresorhosesbetweentheplowmountandyourvehicleframe.
Whenthepartsareallinplace,pushtheassembly
backasfaraspossible(asthoughyouweretheplow)andbegintotightenthe
hardware.
NOTE:Wesupplystandardgrade5boltsandlocknutswhichwillappeartightasyouthreadthemontothe
bolts,THISISNORMAL.
Operation:
Afterplowingforthefirsttime,werecommend
thatyoureͲtightentheboltsonthemountingharness.Onmostvehiclesthe
componentswill“seat”intoeachotherafterthefirstuse.
2WDvehiclesandvehiclesequippedwithSportpackagewillnormallyhavealowergroundclearanceduetothetiresizeaswellasthe
suspensionpackage.
Youshouldexpectareductioningroundclearance atthefrontofyourvehicle,becausethemountingtubesmust
beexposedbelowthelowestpartofyourvehiclesbody.Addinganextrahelperspring,orincreasingthetiresizewillgiveyoutheextra
clearanceyoumayneed.Minimalgroundclearance
doesnotaffectyourabilitytoplow,but itdoesmeanyoumustuseextracaution
whenplowing.Avoidinganyraisedorunevenareasthatyourplowhardwaremaygetcaughtuponwillensuretroublefreeuse.
WithsomeapplicationsthemountingforksonthecrossͲmemberwillpoint
slightlydownwardafteruse,thisisanormalpartofthe
“SEATING”processandwillnotaffecttheoperationoftheplow.(Inmostcasessteelshimscanbeusedtobringtheforksbackup,but
youshouldbecarefulnottomakethempointupwardsoritwillbe difficulttoinstallyourplow.
Yourplowisdesignedtomovefreshlyfallensnow.Itisnotsuitableforsmashingthroughpilesofice,orgradingsandandgravel.
WARNING:
Ifyouoverloadthemountingharnessitisdesignedtoyieldorbreakbeforeyourploworvehicle’s frameis
severelydamaged.Itis

If you are experiencing difficulties with your plow, please consult the troubleshooting tips below. This is intended as a
guide, to assist you in resolving common technical issues and performing simple adjustments. If you require further

1. Plowrocksortipsfromsidetoside.
a. Your plow is intended to rock from side to side by 8 to 10 inches. This will help to compensate for
differencesintheterrainthatyouareplowing,andshouldnotbereducedbyadding
shimsorwashers.
b. Iftheplowisrockingexcessively,checkthe5/8”pivotbolt(#6)toensurethatthereisnomorethan¼”
offreeplay.The5/8”locknutcanbetightened,ifrequired.
c. Checkthe springsand eyebolts to ensure thatthere is adequate tension.If
the springs appear loose,
tightenthelocknutsontheeyeboltsto¼”pastthepointoftension.
2. Winchstrapisbreaking.
a. The single most common cause of a broken strap is lack of free movement in the U Bolt, where the
strap
attachestotheAFrame.Ensure
thatthelocknutsontheUBoltaresufficientlyloose,andthereis
plentyofplayintheUBolt.
3. Winch/Actuatordoesnote ngage,orwinchhesitates.
CAUTIONͲDisconnectpowerfromtheplow,priorto
workingonthewinch/actuatoror
wiring.
a. Ensurethat thebattery cableis securely groundedto the negativeterminal on your battery.DO NOT
GROUNDTOVEHICLEFRAME.
b. Ensure that the switch on the control box (under your hood) is in the “ON” position. Check your
contacts and connectors to ensure that they are
secure and
free of any dirt or corrosion. Dielectric
greasecanbeusedtoprotectelectricalconnectionsagainstdirtandcorrosion.
4. Plowoperationisbackwards(i.e.bladeliftswhenitshouldlower)
a. Ensurethat thered wireonthe 2’ winchconnector isconnectedtothe positive (top)terminal on the
winch,
andtheblackwireisconnectedtothenegative(bottom)terminal.
5. Wiring,controlswitchorcontrolboxaregettinghot.
a. Circuit breaker must be installed between the red battery cable and the positive terminal on your
battery.Ensure thatthe breakerbracket isconnected between the battery and the
brass terminal on
thecircuitbreaker.
REMEMBER
ThisplowisintendedforpersonaluseONLY.Theplowisnotratedfor
commercialuse,anditisnotdesignedtobetransportedatspeedsgreaterthan10mph
(16km/hr).Commercialuseortravellingabovetherecommendedspeedswillvoid
yourwarranty
andcancauseseriousdamagetotheplow,yourvehicle,oryourperson.
