New in this release
This is the initial release of the BCM450 platform. This document contains
information about devices supported by the BCM450 system in Release 1.0.
Features
See the following sections for information found in this document.
Analog and digital devices configuration
You can program individual telephones and devices attached to analog station
modules or to digital station modules through an analog terminal adapter
(ATA) module. You can also program telephones and devices attached directly
to digital media bay modules, or the fixed digital ports on the main chassis. For
more information see, Basic parameters for analog sets and devices
configuration (page 49) and Basic parameters for digital sets configuration
(page 59).
IP phone configuration
You can configure IP telephones which includes registering, programming
buttons, and configuring features. For more information see, Device
configuration overview (page 19), IP phone configuration (page 71),
Telephone relocation (page 79), and Global VoIP features (page 99).
Telephony configuration
You can set some telephony features for all telephones and devices, and set
some features on an individual basis in the DN record. For more information
see, Device configuration overview (page 19), Telephony features
configuration (page 107), Set access to call answer features configuration
(page 115), Set access to calling feature programming (page 141), DN
records panes (page 231), and BCM450 devices special features
configuration (page 151).
SWCA configuration
The System-Wide Call Appearance (SWCA) feature enables you to park
incoming and outgoing calls on your BCM and, at the same time, provides call
appearance to a group of telephones. Using this feature frees the line used by
the call, and enables another user to pick up the call at any telephone that has

been assigned the same SWCA keys. For more information seeSystem-Wide
Call Appearance (page 33) and System-wide call appearance configuration
(page 159).
Set Template creation, modification, assignment
You can create, modify, assign, and import or export a set template using
Element Manager. You can capture a collection of set parameters, such as
capabilities, preferences, assignment of lines, buttons, Meet Me
Conferencing, and voice mail settings. You can assign the template to any
number of appropriate sets on the BCM450. Use an existing default template
or other existing template, or existing DN settings, as the basis for the new
template, or create a new template with all new settings. For more information,
see New set template creation (page 165), Setting model-specific button data
(page 172), NavigationSet template access and modification navigation
(page 183), Assigning a template to sets (page 173), and Adding models to a
template (page 171).
Set and line renumbering
You can renumber line and set parameters. For more information see, Line
and set parameter renumbering (page 195).
Voice mailbox set up
You can create a mailbox for a set that is associated with a template. When
you create the mailbox, some mailbox parameters are available for you to edit
from the template. When you edit the mailbox parameters through the
template, the changes automatically propagate to all the sets associated with
the template. For more information see, Creating a voice mailbox (page 200)
and Editing a voice mailbox (page 201).
CAP configuration
You can configure Central Answering Positions. For more information see
Central answering positions configuration (page 83).
Hunt Groups
You can configure and monitor Hunt Groups. Hunt Groups allow you to set up
call groups that are assigned a common hunt group DN for incoming calls. The
calls then are distributed to the member telephones. For more information
see, Hunt Group configuration (page 85) and External Hunt Group calls
monitoring (page 93).

related:

Introduction
This guide describes how to configure and assign features to Nortel Business
Communications Manager (BCM) 450 1.0 telephony devices through Telset
and through Element Manager.
The concepts, operations, and tasks described in this guide relate to the
BCM450 software. This guide provides task-based information about how to
assign features and provide basic programming for the Business
Communications Manager.
Use Element Manager, Startup Profile, and Telset Administration to configure
various BCM parameters.
In brief, the information in this guide explains:
global telephony settings
steps to configure DNs
product features and how to assign them
The BCM system provides private network and telephony management
capability to small and medium-sized businesses.
The BCM system:
integrates voice and data capabilities, VoIP gateway function, and QoS
data routing features into a single telephony system
enables you to create and provide telephony applications for use in a
business environment

Configuration methods
You can configure devices through Business Elment Manager in different
ways. Two of the device configuration methods are Dynamic Device
Configuration (DDC) and Set Template Programming.

Dynamic Device Configuration
With DDC you can dynamically provision hardware resources including
directory numbers (DN) and line numbers to physical hardware (MBMs,
internal IP devices). DDC minimizes the use of DN values and Line Numbers
on a system so the resources are available for other services.
The BCM450 locates and assigns DNs and line numbers dynamically, as
required, until either all hardware administered to a system is populated with
the necessary DNs and line numbers or the system reaches maximum
capacity. When you install a telephony device or hardware component
BCM450, it must be configured to assign the necessary DNs/Lines and
associated resources to make that device operational. Assigning Dns on an
as-needed basis provides much more flexibility for configuring access/line-
pool/routing codes.
Attention: When deconfiguring all DNs from the BCM, then configuring
DNs, the first DN added to the BCM will become the prime and control set.
That is the sequence of configuring DNs needs to be considered, when
configuring the first DN on the BCM. For example, if you deconfigure all DNs,
then configure the application DNs (e.g. DN 400-450), followed by the actual
set DNs (e.g. DN 200-299), then the prime and control set (for example for
PRI & VoIP lines) will be 400 which is an application DN and not a physical
DN. Consequently it is recommended to configure the actual set DNs first,
prior to application DNs.
With DDC, the Location of a device is independent of the Bus value
associated with a device. In Element Manager devices are not indexed by Bus.
They are listed and indexed by a Location. For example, an MBM in Location
“Main MBM 1” may get assigned Bus 10 in one configuration, but subsequent
changes to the configuration may result in “Main MBM 1” being assigned Bus
11 (or any other valid Bus value). The Bus assigned to a device is now one of
several resources that a device receives during configuration to become
operational.
Features and applications
BCM supports the complete range of IP telephony features offered by existing
BCM products as well as many applications provided on the existing BCM
platforms.
Applications overview
BCM supports the following applications
Voice Messaging for standard voice mail and auto-attendant features
Unified Messaging providing integrated voice mail management between
voice mail and common e-mail applications
/
