1. ICON ABORTED STARTUP (LOCKED
PROJECTOR)
Problem description
The projector is locked (LED 1 a
nd LED 3 are lighting up red) : in this case first perform
the download via the debug port to unlock the projector (see procedure b elow ). Thereafter
perform the V1.12 upgrade (see InfoT 628).
The upgrade to V1.12 is r
ecommended for all iCon projectors.
1.1 Debug port download : Only in case of a locked situation (aborted
start up)
RedBoot loader
Loads the projector firmware at startup.
When to perform the
debug po rt download ?
This download via the debug port on the PMP is necessary when the projector is locked with
LED1andLED3onthelocalkeypadred.
To perform the download the HyperTerminal program is used. It can be found under Win-
dows

All programs/accessories/Communications.
The connection between th e projector and the PC is done with a D ata cable with RJ12
connectors.

How to configure HyperTerminal ?
1.Start up HyperTerminal (image 1-5)
A dialog box will be displayed
2.Choose Yes or No.
3.Choose a name (i.e. “iCon”) for the connection in the following dialog box. (image 1-6)
4.Select the u sed COM port (image 1-7)
5.Fill in the Port settings ( bits per second = 115200 ; Data bits = 8 ; Parity = None ; stop
bits=1;Flowcontrol=None)andconfirmwithOK. (image 1-8)

How to perform the downloa d ?
1.Switch on the mains switch of the projector.
In the HyperTerminal window, the following text is scrolling. (image 1-10)
2.When the text “Executing boot script in 2.000 seconds” is displayed press ‘Ctrl’ and
‘c’buttononthekeyboard.(image1-11)
The start up of the projector is now interrupted and the projector has started up the
RedBoot loader.
3.Enter following command in the HyperTerminal window : lo -r -b 0x100000 -m xmodem.
4.The Redboot loader starts sending ‘C’ characters for about 80 second. During this period
you have to start transferring the file boon.JFFS2_1 using the ‘1K Xmodem’ protocol.

How to trans fer the boon.JFFS2 _1 file (available on request) ?
1.Select Send File in the Transfer menu. (image 1-12)
The following dialog box appears. (image 1-13)
2.Use the browse button to select boon.JFF S2 _1 .
3.Select the 1K Xmodem protocol.
4.Press the Send button.
See image 1-14.
5.The transfe r will take about 5.30 min ut es.
6.After the download Redboot will respond with the following info : (image 1-15)
7.Enter the command fis create JFFS2_1
8.Redboot will ask for a confirmation : . An image named ’JFFS2_1’ e xists - continue

9.Enter y and press Ente r.
This
cantakesometime(30secupto2minutes).
10.When the programming of the flash has finished, the RedBoot prompt will appear again.

11.Switchoffthemainsoftheprojector.
12.Switch on the mains
All LED’s will turn on for about 2 seconds.
Then LED 1 and LED 3 will turn red for about 60 seconds.
After this period, the internal upgrade will start and LED 3 will turn orange for about 20
seconds.
After the internal upgrade, the projector will reset.
All LED’s will turn on for about 2 seconds.
Then LED 1 and LED 3 will turn red for about 60 seconds.
After this period. Only LED 1 will stay red.
13.Press the Stand by button on the remote.
