CONTENTS IMPORTANT INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
BeQuem 50 is a reliable and easy-to-use pellet burner. Its sturdy heat-resistant cast
iron components ensure a long service life and minimise maintenance costs. Detailed
technical data are presented on page 3. To make use of all features of the burner, it is
important to observe these instructions.
IMPORTANT
Keep this manual in a safe place for future reference. Read this manual carefully be-
fore starting to use your BeQuem 50 pellet burner. e output of the pellet burner
depends on how much pellets can be fed into and burned in the combustion head du-
ring one hour. (is means burning of pellets of the usual kind, which approximately
comply with the fuel specications described in this manual).
NOTE! The protective hood on top of the burner must not be removed, unless the device has been
disconnected from electricity supply. Follow the recommendations for the use and maintenance of
the burner contained in this manual.
SHIPMENT, STORAGE AND UNPACKING
Delivery
e manufacturer has insured the burner in case of damages during transport from
the factory to the rst interim storage location. Upon delivery it is important to check
the condition of the burner before the burner is taken into use. If any damage is found,
the seller shall be notied thereof without delay for possible claims.
Storage
e burner can be stored outdoors protected from rain for a short period of time. Ho-
wever, it is advisable to store the burner indoors.
Disposal of the package
e transport cardboard box can be recycled.
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
Heating with the BeQuem 50 pellet burner resembles in many ways oil heating. e
greatest dierence is that when heated with solid fuel a certain amount of ash is produ-
ced, which must be removed periodically. Otherwise, the eciency of the burner will be
reduced.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE SAFETY AND ALARMS
For safety reasons the pellet heating centre and the fuel storage must be placed apart
from each other to prevent possible accidents: any operation disturbances and dama-
ges caused by incorrect handling of the device will then be limited to the burner. e
fuel storage must be built as a separate, re-classied, conned space.
Problems caused by faulty stopping of the system are indicated by a red light on the control
panel. In addition, a text message appears on the display indicating what has caused the
alarm.
During every operating cycle, a small amount of pellets (approx. 150 g) is fed from the
pellet storage via the external feeding system to the upper connection of the burner. To
make it possible to dose an accurate and same amount of pellets during every cycle, the
dosing is carried out by means of a separate dosing auger via the blocking feeder and
burner auger to the combustion head.
Because the burner auger feeds pellets forward three times faster compared with the speed
at which pellets arrive at the auger, a safety zone is formed between the combustion head
and the upper connection containing only single pellets. Even if a mains outage would oc-
cur in the system, the equipment had not been maintained correctly, or some of the parts of
the equipment would have broken down, this safety zone will remain intact.

e BeQuem pellet burner is provided with automatic ignition, but it can be ignited
manually, when necessary. e electric ignition system of the burner will only be acti-
vated in case the temperature of the boiler has dropped at least 8°C below the target
temperature. During heating, the necessary ignition cycles take place by means of em-
bers in the combustion head, saving electric energy.
e burner and the incorporated feeding system operate automatically. e opera-
tion of the burner is controlled by a temperature sensor installed in the burner. e
combustion head of the burner contains an accurately dened mixture of fuel and air,
which ensures perfect combustion cost-eectively and environmentally friendly.
e burner auger is over-pressurized during operation. e purpose of this is to redu-
ce the risk of damage to the burner, e.g. if the draft through the burner is weak.
Wooden pellets with a diameter of 8 millimetres are the recommended fuel for the
burner.
COMPATIBILITY OF THE BURNER AND THE BOILER
e pellet burner can be installed in boilers, which meet certain requirements as re-
gards the size of furnace, sucient under-pressure and ash space.
Required furnace size: Depth at least 430 mm measured form the insertion opening.
Free height above the combustion head at least 350 mm to guarantee a suciently lar-
ge combustion space for the ame.
e boiler must have a suciently large ash space under the combustion head so that
the ash removal interval is suciently long from the maintenance point of view and to
ensure good operational reliability of the burner. Ash removal should be performed
through a separate hatch to avoid the need to remove the burner for this task.
In the furnace there must be a sucient under-pressure, (“natural draft”), which allows
burning of the pellets eciently. As a guide value approx. 30 Pascal is suitable.
ARITERM SWEDEN AB Installation, Operation & Maintenance - 2009.02.18- 5/20
INSTALLATION
Good planning saves time. Ensure immediately upon delivery from Ariterm that eve-
rything is included and undamaged. If possible plan in advance for on-site assembly.
Any required adaptation of the complete docking plate is easier to do on site (home)
than in a workshop.
e boiler must use natural ventilation and have ample space above the combus-
tion chamber or at least 300 mm. Exeption is possible in a number of boilers, but
often in combination with a marginal reduction in eciency. Always contact us
for advice when unable to achieve the recommended measurements.
e door opening must be at least 230 mm high and 225mm wide.
e chimney must always be inspected at installation for airtightness, draught
and risk of condensation. Draught regulators and insert tubes may need to be
instaled. e recommended draught is 30 Pa.
Boilers should always be installed so that variations in draught conditions do not
aect boiler performance. is can be accomplished with devices such as instal-
ling a draught regulator.
Space needed for installation: e open space in front of the boiler (including
burner) must be at least 1,0 m, in order to facilitate usage and burner servicing.
Any condensation should be checked by visual inspection of the chimney’s
upper reach during various weather conditions. In the event condensation runs
through the ue, a condensation vessel should be installed in the lower part of the
chimney in order to tap o the condensation water.
Do not cover the combustion air intake.
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
e supply cable delivered with burner is connected to the burner. In addition, an
over-temperature protection thermostat must be installed in the boiler (this must
acquired separately). e connection is made in accordance with the wiring diagram
annexed to this manual. Also the use of a safety switch (burner switch) is recommen-
ded. e other connection cable delivered with the burner is for boiler temperature
and ue gas sensors. Work on the burner may only be carried out by a qualied servi-
ceman. Make sure to cut the power supply to the burner before servicing.
COMMISSIONING
Before starting up the boiler, check the following:
e heating pipework and the boiler are lled with water and the pressure is at
least 0.5 bar.
e possible ue gas damper has been opened
e recirculation damper in the convection part of the boiler is in place
e circulation pump is running
e valves in the heating pipework have been opened
e combustion air opening has been opened
e safety valve is connected without obstructions to the boiler and is in good
operational condition.

MOUNTING OF DOCKNING PLATE AND SERVICE RAIL
Mount the secondary air tube, service rail and quick-release hand hold as shown in the photo-
graph.
Use the door frame as a template for drilling the four holes for the boiler’s
stud bolts in the docking plate. In some cases, the docking plate’s outer di-
mension must be adapted to t the boiler. It is easiest to use a circular saw.
Mount the plate against the boiler frame with heat-resistence glass bre
reinforced sealing strip or furnace cement, which can easily be applied
afterwards through the mounting plate opening. Tighten while making sure
the plate is not deformed. Final tightening of the service rail is to be done
only once the burner has been attached and secured to the mounting plate.
The service rail is to be pressed up against the boilers guide pins and outer
clamping bolts are to be securely tightened. Check that the burner is cent-
red on the mounting plate’s guide pins when it is pulled out and pushed in.
It is a good idea to lubricate the guide arms.

START-UP IN OFF MODE
Cold start of the burner (with electric ignition)
Cold start of the burner takes place after the burner has been switched o at the cont-
rol panel, a fault has occurred in the operation of the burner, or the mains voltage re-
turns after a mains outage. e temperature of the boiler must be at least 8°C below
the set value. Otherwise, the automatic control unit supposes that the burner is in the
hot start mode and does not use the ignition resistor at all.
If the external feeding system is empty of pellets, it must be relled before swit-
ching on the burner. Switch on the control unit of the burner at the main switch
so that the red light turns on. Press the arrow button to the right. e operation
display of the burner must be OFF. Browse menu 1 by means of the arrow button
forward, until the message AUGER EXTERNAL MANUAL OFF” is displayed.
Switch on the external auger by pressing the Plus button. When the auger is ro-
tating, the remaining running time is indicated on the display. e external auger
can be stopped before the set time elapses by pressing the Minus button before
the drop tube begins to be lled with pellets.
To switch on the burner, go forward to menu 1 by means of the arrow button, until
OFF (+ON) appears on the display. Select ON by means of the Plus button. en
the burner motors starts, the burner gets fuel to be fed to the combustion head via the
feed auger, and after 3 minutes also the fan and ignition resistor will be switched
on.
e optical sensor of the burner detects the moment when fuel has been ignited
and switches o the ignition resistor. At the same time, the operation light turns
green and the speed of the fan decreases. Feeding of fuel stops completely within
three minutes in order to give time for the fuel to ignite in the combustion head.
After this pellets are fed at low power for further ve minutes. After a full stop
lasting ten minutes (7 starts), the operation program switches on and controls the
burner functions. Only until at this point the burner switches to the normal hea-
ting mode. In case the ignition fails, the red light will come on again and an alarm
message appears on the display.
e maximum amount of cold start cycles is seven. e proceeding of these cycles can
be followed on the display by selecting the menu option “Operating mode. Don’t make
any adjustments on the burner or similar measures during the ignition cycle.
Note! When the burner is switched on at the first time or, for some reason, it does not contain any pellets, a
restart is sometimes required approx. after a 3 minutes’ running time.
START-UP IN OPERATING MODE
Hot start and switching off
A green light indicates that the burner is in operating mode. During operation, the
temperature sensor of the boiler controls the start and stop functions of the burner.
When the temperature of the boiler has dropped 5°C below the selected set value, the
burner switches to medium power. If the temperature drops by further two degrees,
the burner starts to operate at maximum power. e burner operates at maximum
power, until the temperature has dropped four degrees below the set value, after which
the burner starts to operate at medium power again. e red light indicates that the
device has been switched o.
(see “Troubleshooting” ).
Switching off
To switch o the burner, select the menu “ON (OFF)”. Select OFF by means of the
Minus button. When the burner is in OFF mode, a red light is illuminated on the
control panel indicating that the power has been switched on.

SETTINGS
Adjusting combustion
e boiler is delivered with factory settings, which in most cases are sucient for
proper, ecient combustion. e boiler’s factory settings can be applied if negative
pressure is 30 Pascal (Pa) in the ue. If combustion is poor anyway and the ue gases
from the chimney are black or the ash is grainy, combustion can be adjusted to attain
the desired end results. Adjustment is made with a ue gas analyser and should be
carried out by a service technician authorised by Ariterm. Flue gas analysis shall be
shown for carbon monoxide (CO) values under 200 ppm and excess air (O2) 6-8%.
e fans air quantity and the feed percentage for the burner screw is adjusted in the
following manner.
e amount of pellets in the burner cup is set in the output menu by changing the
percent gure for POWER HIGH AUGER and POWER LOW AUGER.
e amount of air is set in the output menu by changing the percent gure for PO-
WER HIGH FAN 1 and 2 and POWER LOW FAN 1 and 2.

tripped?
Replace the defective fuse in the cont-
rol unit or turn ON the power by me-
ans of the main switch. Note! Discon-
nect the device from electricity supply
before replacing the fuse. The size of
fuses F1 and F2 is 4A/230 V.
If the cause of over-heating cannot be
determined with certainty, contact an
authorised technician. If the over-tem-
perature protection of the boiler has
tripped, put it back into operation by
pressing the RESET button. After this
switch the control unit OFF and then
back ON. Also check that the 3-phase
current is correctly connected.

Shake the drop tube and change the
inclination so that pellets will not get
stuck.
that the inclination of the external au-
ger is not too steep (max 45°) or feeding
of fuel has not stopped, because pellets
have been stuck in the silo.
Adjust the auger into a more gentle
angle and turn it back and forth a few
times so that the pellets come loose.
The feed opening of fuel must be loca-
ted in the middle of the fuel store (app-
lies to small week stores).
In case an alarm becomes active, this is indicated on the display of the control panel
with a red light and a text message. is facilitates troubleshooting, because the user
can see the cause of the problem. e alarm is acknowledged by selecting OFF on the
control unit. e cause of the alarm must always be determined and the problem re-
moved before the device is switched on again.
e following checks and remedies are described in such an order that the most pro-
bable cause of the problem is given rst.
Problem Check Remedy
that the motor shaft rotates the auger
and the motor of the external auger
operates.
(In most cases the default setting of the
operating time of the external auger (30
seconds) is not long enough to bring suf-
ficient amount of pellets to the burner. If
the problem cannot be removed by me-
ans of the above checks and remedies,
the operating time of the external auger
may be too short. In such cases increase
the operating time (see page 15, menu 3
-> ”Auger external time”). However, the
operating time must not be so long that
pellets accumulate into the drop tube.)
If the motor does not rotate, disconnect
the power cable from the boiler and
connect it directly to a mains socket by
means of the additional cable provided.
If the motor has been over-heated due
to a blockage or for some other reason,
the over-temperature protection of the
motor may have been tripped. The mo-
tor will not start until it has been coo-
led down. Also check that there are no
blockages in the auger.
If there are problems with the motor,
contact an authorised technician.

becomes easily sooty, the cause may
be incorrect settings or too low under-
pressure in the furnace. In such cases
call a technician.
ARITERM SWEDEN AB Installation, Operation & Maintenance - 2009.02.18- 14/20
TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem Check Remedy
The device has been stopped during a
hot start.
Check that the pellets fed into the
combustion head are whole. The fuel
consists of pieces, the burner cannot
keep up the embers. The reason for re-
curring stops may also be an excessive
play in the blocking feeder, which ma-
kes it difficult to keep up the embers.
The device has been stopped during
a cold start.
Check the function of the ignition re-
sistor, unless ignition does not succeed
after two start attempts.
If the cause of the operation cannot
be determined with certainty or the ig-
nition resistor must be replaced, con-
tact an authorised technician.
The red operation indication is on
and the display reads:
ALARM LEVEL MONITOR, or
ALARM BLOCKAGE
The cause of the problem is that
the optical flame monitor of the
burner has not detected light du-
ring a certain period of time. No
fuel has entered into the combus-
tion head.
is there fuel in the upper connection?
If there is no fuel in the upper con-
nection of the burner, check the cable
connections of the level switches. If
this does not help, wipe the level swit-
ches clean. If the external feed of the
burner does not start in spite of this
or the level switches must be cleaned
continuously, they may be defective
and, when necessary, should be repla-
ced by an authorised technician.
Problem Check Remedy
that the feed auger, blocking feeder
and burner auger rotate and are not
blocked, e.g. because of a foreign
object.
A possible foreign object in the pellet
fuel must be removed, if it gets stuck
in the blocking feeder or in one of
the feed augers. Remove the upper
connection and take out the possible
foreign object from the feed auger or
blocking feeder. In connection with the
inspection of the burner auger remove
the four augers located between the
inner and middle part and pull out the
burner auger from the tube. Be sure to
disconnect all cable connections.

MAINTENANCE
Burner
Carry out the necessary inspection and maintenance measures described below in connection with
cleaning of the boiler:
Switch o the burner one hour before commencing maintenance of the boiler.
e combustion head does not normally require any specic maintenance, but in
connection with ash removal it must inspected and any accumulation of ash remo-
ved, as necessary.
When installing the burner back in place, inspect the hatch seals for possible da-
mage.
Every 1 to 2 years
Clean the primary air ring and the primary air tube inside from dust and lumps. Check the
condition and tension of the chain. Adjust and replace all defective parts, as necessary. Lub-
ricate the chain with low-viscosity oil.
In connection with a new fuel delivery, the combustion head must be inspected in or-
der to detect sintering (ash as well as stone- and gravel-like particles stuck together in
the combustion head) in good time. Such particles must absolutely be removed from
the combustion head at short intervals to prevent over-heating of and thus dama-
ge to the primary air ring. Sintering is often caused by impurities in the fuel and the
fuel supplier shall be notied immediately of such problems. See also paragraph ”Advice
about fuel pellets”.
Note! Handle ash always carefully, because it may still be glowing. Ash must be kept in a fire-re-
sistant container.
e use of any kind of solid fuel requires usually a little more care than in the case of
oil heating, even if the burning would be automatically controlled, such as in BeQuem
pellet burners.
e need of maintenance may vary considerably. It is therefore advisable to inspect
and clean the burner, boiler and its convection parts already after one weeks operation.
In this way the user gains experience to schedule the maintenance at correct intervals.
ese maintenance measures should be carried out at frequent intervals. Close the
inlet of combustion air into the boiler room. Put out the re using a re extinguisher.
Make a re alarm, as necessary.
ARITERM SWEDEN AB Installation, Operation & Maintenance - 2009.02.18- 16/20
Cleaning of Flame Control
The condition of the burner head
wheels must be checked during
maintenance.
The burner cup and the
screws within the cup must
be carefully cleaned to ensure
awless operation.
Pull the ame control sensor gently out of the
pipe.
Clean the ame control sensor.
Clean the ame controller metal pipe so
that the ash in the pipe will not hinder the
operation of the ame control sensor.
MAINTENANCE, CARE, SWEEPING
Check the condition of the chain and wheels regularly.
Change worn out parts when necessary.
ARITERM SWEDEN AB Installation, Operation & Maintenance - 2009.02.18- 17/20
Wooden pellets are renewable bio-energy – fuel in a compact and uniform form, which
is easy to handle. Moisture content is less than 10 %, which means that the pellets do not
freeze or become mouldy. No chemical substances are used in the manufacturing process,
but rather the binding agent is the trees own lignin.
Diameter of the pellet is 6 to 12 mm and length 10 to 30 mm. Due to the small size
the pellets move freely in the feed augers.
Most of the disturbances, which occur as a result of bad fuel quality, are caused by in-
correct handling and interim storage before the product is delivered to the customer.
Large contents of ne materials in the pellets may be caused by insucient sifting.
Sintering of ash is often caused by silicate impurities (sand). ese things cannot be
detected before burning. Note! If ash is sintered, sintered material must be conti-
nuously removed form the combustion head.
Fuel storage
e feeding system enables building the pellet storage for so-called bulk deliveries.
e storage can be located either indoors or in a separate building outside the house.
e shorter the transport distance from the storage to the burner is, the better the fee-
ding operates. In designing the boiler room and the storage, the re regulations must
be taken into consideration.
