Chapter 1 Introduction
Please read all cautions, warnings and labels on the scanning device and in the
equipment-specific User’s Guide before scanning the barcodes in this guide.
Barcodes and Scanner Engines
Integrated barcode scanner engines are used to collect barcoded data from any nearby compatible,
visible barcode label that is contained on printed media. Integrated scanners are built-in to the mobile
device, usually located under, and protected by, an endcap.
This guide contains all the scanner programming barcodes designed for LXE® mobile devices with a
Microsoft® Windows® operating system and with an integrated barcode scan engine. LXE mobile
devices contain one integrated barcode laser scan engine at a time. Different scanner engines may be
purchased from LXE.
LXE offers two types of integrated barcode reader engines: laser scanners and laser imagers. For the
purposes of this manual, both terms are interchangeable. It is good practice to avoid looking into the
beam emitted by any beam aperture.
Barcodes for integrated scan engines made by Symbol Technologies

(SE prefix) are contained in
Chapter 2 - Symbol Barcodes. SE923 and SE824 scanners are obsolete – information contained in
this scanner guide is made available as a courtesy to LXE’s SE923 and SE824 customers. Please
contact your LXE representative for upgrade or replacement.
Barcodes for the integrated EV-15 Imager are contained in Chapter 3 - EV-15 Imager.

Hand Held Products 5300 2D Non-decode Imager programming instruction, parameters and sample
code are contained in Chapter 5 – 5300 2D Imager.
LXE supported scanning ranges for integrated scanner engines are contained in Chapter 6 - Scan
Engine Technical Specifications, Decode Zones.
The barcode scan engine manufacturers may offer more barcodes and options than are contained in
this guide. Please note that the barcodes in this guide are only those supported by LXE and the mobile
devices it manufactures or supports. If you need assistance when using the barcodes in this guide,
please contact your LXE representative.
Note: The LXE HX2/HX3/BTRS wearable devices do not have integrated scanners.
LXE DOS Mobile Devices with Integrated Scanners
Please refer to the Integrated Scanner Programming Guide for DOS Devices user guide (available on
the LXE Manuals CD and the LXE website) and the following section titled Obsolete LXE Equipment
with Integrated Scanners later in this chapter.
1
Full programming guides for the Symbol scan engines and the HandHeld Products scan engine may be available on
the manufacturer’s web site.

Integrated Scanner Programming Guide E-SW-SCANNERPG-L
Tethered Scanners
This guide does not include the programming barcodes used for LXE approved tethered scanners
connected to a COM port on LXE mobile devices and docking cradles. It does not include
programming barcodes for LXE approved Bluetooth scanners. Please refer to the barcode reader
manufacturer’s User Guide.
Full programming guides for the scan engines in tethered scanners and Bluetooth barcode readers
may be available on the manufacturer’s web site.
Identify Your Barcode Reader Type
LXE offers two types of barcode reader engines: laser scanners and laser imagers. For the purposes of
this manual, both terms are interchangeable. It is good practice to avoid looking into the beam emitted
by the apertures.
There is only one integrated (built-in) barcode reader engine in the LXE mobile device at a time.
Different scanner engines may be purchased from LXE. Contact your LXE representative for
assistance.
Look on the label on the back of your LXE mobile device. The type of installed scan engine may be
identified on the LXE label.
Make sure the Scan button cannot be pressed when you are looking at the scanner aperture!
Figure 1-1 Identify Scan Engine using Scanner / Imager Apertures

3 Imager – Clear Glass Lens
4 Laser Scanner – Red Glass Lens
Handheld devices without an integrated barcode reader usually have an opaque scan aperture lens
protecting the device’s internal components.

LXE equipment that does not appear on this list may be DOS equipment, equipment not compatible
with all LXE devices, tethered scanners, mobile Bluetooth scanners or obsolete. See Obsolete LXE
Equipment later in this chapter.
LXE supported scanning ranges for integrated scanner engines are contained in Chapter 6 - Scan
Engine Technical Specifications, Decode Zones.
Related Manuals
Refer to the System Configuration chapters in the following guides for information when using the
integrated barcode reader after all configuration parameters have been set. There are many barcode
reader functions that are controlled by the Windows CE Scanner Control Panels on the mobile device
e.g. beeper/volume/events, RS-232 settings, read timers, etc.

4 Introduction
Integrated Scanner Programming Guide E-SW-SCANNERPG-L
RFID
RFID scanning engines are used to collect data from Class 1 and Class 2 labels that are within reading
proximity of the RFID module. RFID scan engines do not read, and cannot be programmed by, the
barcodes in this guide.
MX3-RFID (Obsolete)
The MX3-RFID is an MX3X CE device with an SE923 / SE955 laser scanner and an RFID module.
Use the barcodes in this guide to program the integrated SE923 / SE955 laser scanner. Use the RFID
configuration utility documented in Chapter 3 System Configuration in the MX3-RFID Reference
Guide to program the RFID reader.
RFID Troubleshooting
When the RFID module is installed, the laser barcode scanner won’t activate while the RFID reader is
attempting to read. The laser scan key can be pressed after the RFID reader has completed the RFID
read function. The RFID reader won’t function until the barcode scanner completes the barcode read /
accept or reject process. The RFID read key can be pressed after the laser reader has completed the
barcode read / accept or reject process.
RX2
Use the RFID configuration utility documented in Chapter 3 System Configuration in the RX2
Reference Guide to program the RFID reader.
MX6 (Obsolete)
LXE’s MX6 mobile device uses an integrated imager or laser scanner to scan, decode and store
information. The MX6 does not contain a Symbol scan engine, EV-15 engine, RFID engine or
5380SF 2D engine.
Please refer to the MX6 Reference Guide, section titled Using the Integrated Imager or Barcode
Scanner and the chapter titled Scanner/Imager Parameter Setup for scanner/imager setup and
programming instruction.
The MX6 mobile device with a Microsoft Windows Pocket PC operating system is obsolete. It is
replaced by the MX6 Windows Mobile device.
