SECTION 1 − HELMET COOLER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS −

READ BEFORE USING

1-2. Hazards

Only qualified persons should install, operate, maintain, and repair this equipment. A

qualified person is defined as one who, by possession of a recognized degree, certificate,

or professional standing, or who by extensive knowledge, training and experience, has

successfully

demonstrated the ability to solve or resolve problems relating to the subject

matter, the work, or the project and has received safety training to recognize and avoid

the hazards involved.

The symbols shown below are used throughout this manual to call attention to and identi-

fy possible hazards. When you see the symbol, watch out, and follow the related

instructions to avoid the hazard. The safety information given below is only a summary

of the more complete safety information found in the Principal Safety Standards listed in

Section 1-4. Read and follow all Safety Standards.

READ INSTRUCTIONS.

D Read and follow all labels and the Owner’s Manual carefully before installing,

operating,

or servicing unit. Read the safety information at the beginning of the

manual and in each section.

D Use only genuine replacement parts from the manufacturer.

D Perform installation, maintenance, and service according to the Owner’s Manuals, industry

standards, and national, state, and local codes.

HELMET COOLER MISUSE can be hazardous.

Welding produces fumes and gases. Breathing these fumes and gases can be

hazardous to your health.

D Read and follow these instructions and the safety labels carefully. The hel-

met cooler is intended for use as a cooling device only. It is not a respiratory protective device and

does not protect the user from airborne contaminants. Have an industrial hygienist test the air in

your facility to determine if respiratory protection is required to provide adequate protection from

contaminants in your environment. With cooling system-equipped helmet on your head and cool-

ing system operating, also test the air inside the helmet to determine if respiratory protection is

required. If you have questions about the type of respiratory protection equipment required, con-

sult your safety director and a certified Industrial Hygienist.

D Do not use the helmet cooler until you have been trained in its proper operation by a qualified

person.

D Do not use the helmet cooler where there is danger of fire or explosion.

D Do not use the helmet cooler in windy conditions, or negative pressure inside the hood can draw

in contaminants from the outside air.

D Do not use the helmet cooler without a properly installed spark guard unless the unit is designed

and intended to be used without one. Without the spark guard (on applicable products), welding

sparks can ignite the filter or damage the filter.

D The helmet cooler does not supply oxygen. Do not use the helmet cooler where oxygen levels are

19.5% or lower, where contaminant levels are unknown or are immediately dangerous to life or

health (IDLH), or where the contaminant levels exceed the equipment specifications.

D Do not enter a work area until you are sure the helmet cooler is assembled correctly, working

properly, and worn properly.

D Before each use, inspect the helmet cooler for damage and verify it operates properly.

D Dangerous contaminants may not smell or be visible. Leave the area immediately if you notice

any of the following:

Breathing becomes difficult....

You experience dizziness, impaired vision, or eye, nose, or mouth irritation....

The equipment is damaged....

D Do not repair, modify, or disassemble the helmet cooler or use with parts or accessories not sup-

plied by the manufacturer.

D Do not operate the helmet cooler without properly installed filter(s). Replace damaged or plugged

filters. Do not wash or reuse filters. Do not clean filters by tapping or with compressed air or filter

elements can be damaged.

D Do not restrict or alter helmet cooler air flow. Do not block air inlet or outlet. Be sure safety

glasses, hair, weld cap, and other objects do not block air flow.

D Do not use the helmet cooler belt as a safety harness.

D The helmet cooler contains electrical parts which have not been evaluated as an ignition source

in flammable or explosive atmospheres by MSHA/NIOSH.

2-2. Dangers

L’installation, l’utilisation, l’entretien et les réparations ne doivent être confiés qu’à des

personnes qualifiées. Une personne qualifiée est définie comme celle qui, par la

d’un diplôme reconnu, d’un certificat ou d’un statut professionnel, ou qui, par

une connaissance, une formation et une expérience approfondies, a démontré avec suc-

cès sa capacité à résoudre les problèmes liés à la tâche, le travail ou le projet et a reçu

une formation en sécurité afin de reconnaître et d’éviter les risques inhérents.

Les symboles représentés ci−dessous sont utilisés dans ce manuel pour attirer l’atten-

tion et identifier les dangers possibles. En présence de l’un de ces symboles, prendre

garde et suivre les instructions afférentes pour éviter tout risque. Les instructions en

matière de sécurité indiquées ci−dessous ne constituent qu’un sommaire des instruc-

tions de sécurité plus complètes fournies dans les normes de sécurité énumérées dans

refroidisseur pour casque est destiné à une utilisation en tant qu’appareil de refroidissement

uniquement.

Ce n’est pas un dispositif de protection respiratoire et il n’offre pas de protection à

l’utilisateur

contre les contaminants en suspension dans l’air. Faire évaluer la qualité de l’air dans

votre établissement par un hygiéniste industriel pour déterminer si le port d’une protection

respiratoire est requis pour procurer une protection adéquate contre les aérocontaminants

présents dans le milieu de travail. Mesurez également l’air à l’intérieur de votre casque, alors qu’il

est porté et que le système de refroidissement est en fonction, pour déterminer si une protection

D N’utilisez pas le refroidisseur pour casque avant d’avoir reçu une formation à son utilisation ap-

D N’utilisez pas le refroidisseur pour casque dans des conditions venteuses ou si une pression

négative dans le capot est susceptible d’attirer des contaminants provenant de l’air extérieur.

D N’utilisez pas le refroidisseur pour casque sans pare−étincelles correctement installé à moins que

l’unité ne soit conçue et prévue pour une utilisation sans ce dernier. Sans celui−ci (sur des produits où

il est applicable), des étincelles de soudage peuvent enflammer ou endommager le filtre.

D Le refroidisseur pour casque ne fournit pas d’oxygène. Ne l’utilisez pas lorsque le niveau

d’oxygène est de 19,5 % ou moins, le niveau de contaminant est inconnu, présente un danger

immédiat pour la vie ou la santé (DIVS) ou dépasse les spécifications de l’équipement.

D Ne pénétrez pas dans une zone dangereuse sans avoir vérifié que le refroidisseur pour casque

est correctement assemblé, qu’il fonctionne et qu’il est porté correctement.

D Avant chaque utilisation, vérifiez que le refroidisseur pour casque n’est pas endommagé et qu’il

fonctionne correctement.

D Des polluants dangereux peuvent être inodores et invisibles. Quittez immédiatement la zone si

vous remarquez l’une des situations suivantes :

pièces ou des accessoires non fournis par le fabricant.

D Ne faites pas fonctionner le refroidisseur pour casque sans un ou plusieurs filtres correctement

installés.

Remplacer les filtres bloqués ou endommagés. Ne pas laver ou réutiliser les filtres.

Ne pas nettoyer les filtres par chocs mécaniques ou avec de l’air comprimé, ceci pourrait endom-

mager les éléments filtrants.

D Ne pas restreindre ou modifier la canalisation d’entrée du refroidisseur d’air de casque. Ne pas

obstruer les bouches d’entrée et de sortie. S’assurer que la circulation d’air n’est pas obstruée

par les lunettes de sécurité, les cheveux, le casque de soudeur ou tout autre objet ou vêtement.

D N’utilisez pas la ceinture refroidisseur pour casque en tant que harnais de sécurité.

D Le refroidisseur pour casque contient des composants électriques qui n’ont pas été évalués en

tant que source d’inflammation potentielle dans des atmosphères inflammables ou explosives

par la MSHA/le NIOSH.

FIRE OR BATTERY EXPLOSION hazard.

D Keep battery away from fire, out of direct sunlight, and away from other sources of heat.

D Do not use or charge the battery if it has been dropped or damaged.

D Do not open, puncture, repair, disassemble, or modify the battery.

D Charge battery only with supplied charger in an open, well−ventilated location out of direct sun-

light and according to supplied instructions.

D Do not overcharge a battery or charge battery longer than specified (if charger is not equipped

with automatic shutoff). See the Owner’s Manual for specific information on battery charging.

D Do not charge battery by connecting directly to AC receptacle. Do not connect battery charger

to automobile auxiliary power receptacle.

D Do not connect (short circuit) battery terminals to each other. Do not allow tools, conductive

materials, or other objects to touch both battery terminals at the same time.

Risque D’INCENDIE OU D’EXPLOSION DE LA BATTERIE.

D Pendant l’utilisation, éloigner toutes les personnes, en particulier les enfants.

D Ne pas placer le chargeur sur, au-dessus ou à proximité de surfaces

inflammables.

D Ne pas recharger la batterie à proximité de produits inflammables.

D Examiner la batterie avant toute première utilisation. En cas de constat de dommages,

saletés ou odeur inhabituelle, retourner la batterie au fabricant.

D N’utilisez les batteries qu’avec l’équipement pour lequel elles ont été fournies. Lors de

leur remplacement, seulement utiliser le type de batterie indiqué dans le manuel de

l’utilisateur. Toute autre combinaison pourrait présenter des risques d’incendie ou

d’explosion.

D La batterie doit rester sèche.

D Ne pas utiliser ni stocker la batterie dans des conditions de températures élevées ou de forte

humidité. Se reporter au Manuel d’utilisation pour en savoir plus sur le stockage et toute

utilisation

spécifique.

D Éloigner la batterie de toute flamme, de la lumière directe du soleil et de toute source de

chaleur.

D Ne pas utiliser ni recharger la batterie en cas de dommage ou de chute de celle−ci.

D Ne pas ouvrir, percer, réparer, démonter ni modifier la batterie.

D Recharger la batterie uniquement avec le chargeur fourni, dans un lieu bien aéré et ouvert, à l’abri

de la lumière directe du soleil et conformément aux consignes fournies.

D Ne pas surcharger ni charger la batterie au−delà du temps spécifié (si le chargeur est dépourvu

d’arrêt automatique). Se reporter au Manuel d’utilisation pour en savoir plus sur la charge de la

batterie.

D Ne pas recharger la batterie en la branchant directement à la prise femelle AC. Ne pas brancher

le chargeur de batterie à une alimentation auxiliaire de voiture.

D Ne pas raccorder (court−circuiter) les bornes de la batterie entre elles. Éviter tout contact d’outils,

matériaux conducteurs ou autres objets aux deux bornes de la batterie simultanément.

D Ne pas souder ni fixer quelconque objet sur la batterie.

D Ne pas chauffer la batterie dans un four micro−onde ou tout autre appareil de chauffage.

D Éloigner la batterie de toute source de haute tension.

D Ne pas exposer la batterie à l’électricité statique.

D Ne pas utiliser de batteries endommagées ou usagées ni même avec des batteries neuves ou en

bon état, et ne pas mélanger différents types de batteries.

The helmet cooling system draws in air and blows it into the welding helmet shroud through a flexible

connecting hose. The system must include and/or be used with the equipment listed below:

D Helmet and head shroud

D Connecting hose

D Blower assembly with filtration system (spark guard and filter)

D Belt assembly

D Battery charger

The helmet cooling system operates at temperatures from 23° to 131°F and provides air flow of 6 CFM

(low speed) to 7 CFM (high speed) under normal conditions. Battery life is reduced when the unit is

used in a dirty environment. (The blower assembly Batt light goes on when battery power is low.)

5-2. Installing Headgear And Shroud

After installing shroud,.

make sure there are no

gaps between shroud and

helmet edge.

Remove knobs, o-rings, and

washers from standard

headgear. Remove headgear.

Use damp towel to clean area in-

side helmet where Velcro will

be installed. Allow cleaned area

to dry.

Remove backing from Velcro.

Install Velcro strip 5/8 in. (1.5

cm) from edge of quick release

Elite and Titanium helmets. For

all other helmets, install Velcro

3/4 in. (2 cm) from edge of hel-

met.

Position cooling system

headgear in helmet. Install

headgear mounting screw in

headgear bottom hole (quick re-

lease Elite and Titanium hel-

mets) or top hole (all other hel-

mets).

Secure headgear with knobs,

o-rings, and washers.

Align Velcro on shroud with Vel-

cro strip inside helmet. Press the

Velcro surfaces securely to-

gether.

Check for gaps between shroud

and helmet. Reposition shroud

and Velcro if necessary.

met when using helmet with

the cooling system turned

off.

Adjust belt so unit rests comfort-

ably against lower back.

Put on helmet and adjust helmet so

helmet fits snugly on head. Tighten
