Dies erfolgt in
nehmens, sodaß möglichst viele Elemente in unseren
Hochdruckreinigern die Umwelt so wenig wie möglich
belasten.
wasser wiederverwendet.
The environmental policy of ALTO GB
ALTO has made it a natural part of the concept of the
company to reduce the effect on our environment as
much as possible. This plan is effected through a cons-
tant development in all branches of the company so that
the greatest number of elements in our high pressure
washers affects the environment to a minimum.
This product too is characterised by the attitude of
ALTO towards the environment.
The majority of the incorporated plastic components and
first and foremost the cabinet is made of the environmentally
desirable polypropylene plastic material. The applied form of
the substance can be regranulated, which means that the
substance can be used for other plastic materials upon
discarding.
To ensure the possibilities of recycling the plastic materials
of the product, they have been marked with a recycling
symbol and the type of material.
It is also a part of our concern for environmental problems
that the high pressure washer is maintenance-free, meaning
that the oil in the high pressure pump will not have to be
changed. The oil is in a closed system and is only changed by
an eventual servicing.
For the production of this high pressure washer the
latest technique and technology has been applied. The
consumption of unnecessary subsidiary materials has
been minimized, and during the final test of the
product the test water is recycled.
milieu zo min mogelijk mogen belasten. Dit concept wordt
verwezenlijkt door voortdurende nieuwe technologische
ontwikkelingen.
feit dat onze reinigingssystemen bijna onderhoudsvrij zijn;

3.2 Starting-up procedure
Machine signals ready for operation.
Press - I - for starting-up.
Dont start the machine until the high pressure hose has been correctly mounted.
When the machine is fed with voltage the signal will appear on the digital display of the control panel.
meaning that the machine is ready for operation, and that the electronic control system has not found
any malfunctions.
If a flashing S appears, you will have to wait 10 seconds before the machine can be started (see sec-
tion 6.1).
If the is flashing, the electronic control has ascertained that water is flushing through the machine.
Mount the high pressure hose and make sure that the spray handle is closed - then check that the
is constantly alight.
Now the machine can be started up by pressing the start button marked I .
IMPORTANT: When the machine is in operation and the spray handle inactivated, the machine will stop
after approximately 40 sec. The signal will appear on the digital display of the control panel meaning
that the machine can be restarted by activating the spray handle.
NB! If the pressure of the inlet water is below 1,5 bar the machine can only be restarted in low pressure
mode - reduction valve turned completely counter clockwise.
After restart the pressure may be regulated.
Direction of rotation of the motor
The direction of rotation of the motor should be correct in order to ensure air supply for the
boiler. If the direction of rotation is wrong, the motor will stop immediately upon the starting-
up and the fault code will flash on the display of the control panel. To correct this fault,
please see section 7.0 Trouble shooting chart.

3.3 Operation
Always hold the spray lance with both
hands!
Always lock the spray handle when the
cleaner is not in operation.
Activate the high pressure washer by releasing the trigger of the spray handle (1). When starting up the
machine the pressure may be unsteady because of air in the pump system. After a short time the air
will escape from the system and the pressure will become steady. When the cleaner is not in use,
secure the spray handle by turning the safety knob (2) into pos. 0.
3.4 Temperature control
Cold water mode 0 - 50°C
Hot water mode 50 - 95°C
Steam mode 95 - 150°C
Adjust the temperature control (1) to the required temperature.
An indicator light on the temperature sensor (2) shows the actual temperature of the outlet water. If the
machine is put away immediately after hot water or steam operation, it should be cooled off at first by
cold water operation until the temperature is below 50°C.
IMPORTANT: Adjustment at temperatures above 95°C should be made with released spray handle.
When choosing temperatures above 95°C the water volume is automatically reduced. Then
full water
volume
at temperatures below 95°C cannot be obtained until the temperature of the outlet water has
fallen below 95°C. Upon that release the spray handle to have full water volume again. The cooling
period, from max. temperature (150°C) to full water volume is approximately 1 minute.

Counter clockwise (A): low pressure
The spray lance features 2 nozzles, a high pressure nozzle and a low pressure nozzle. When the
pressure reducing valve (1) is completely closed (turned clockwise - B), only the high pressure nozzle
is used - high pressure mode. When the pressure reducing valve is quite open (turned counter clock-
wise - A) both spray lances are used - low pressure mode. The pressure may be regulated between
these positions.
3.6 End of operation
1. Dismounting of high pressure hose
Danger of scalding!
Never dismount the high pressure hose
when the water temperature is above
50°C.
Turn the temperature control (1) to position cold water and activate the spray handle until the tempe-
rature (2) is below 50°C. Then turn off the water supply and stop the machine by pressing stop button
(3) marked - 0 -. Now the high pressure hose can be detached.
2. Automatic stop
When the machine is in operation and the spray handle inactivated, the machine will stop after approxi-
mately 40 sec. The signal will appear on the digital display of the control panel meaning that the
machine can be restarted by activating the spray handle.
3. Stop in the event of faults
If the machine stops in the event of faults, the fault code will be shown on the digital display of

If the machine stops because of a problem with the burner, a failure code will flash and the machine will
stop. If the code is
other than
an A-code, try to restart the machine as follows:
1. Disconnect the power to the machine. Try to restart it normally, or call for service, or...
Burner override mode
2. Turn the temperature control knob all the way to the COLD position (fully counter clockwise). Hold the
START button down for approximately 3 seconds. The machine will start as a cold water machine and will
ignore burner failure codes. In this mode, all burner operations are disabled and it will not be possible to
re-establish these operations until the power to the machine has been disconnected and the cause of the
original burner fault is corrected.
Always call for a service technician to correct the failure in the burner system as soon as possible! Burner
Override Mode is only to be used as a temporary solution.
3.7 Transport directions
For lifting by crane, use lifting straps!
When transporting the machine (lifting by crane) a lifting strap should be used.
Place the straps by the castor wheel and the shaft of the driving wheels -
never under the tank!
Always fasten the machine securely during transport. The brake of the castor wheel (8) should be applied
during transport.
3.8 Storage
Frost-free room or anti-freeze solution!
We recommend you to store the machine in a frost-free room between cleaning tasks. The machine
must be emptied of water prior to storing for a longer period. This is done in the following way:
1. Detach water hose. Dismount spray lance and empty it of water.
2. Start the machine, and let it run with open spray handle until all water has run out.
If the store room is not frost-free, the machine should be protected with an anti-freeze solution, See
accessories catalogue and follow the instructions for the accessory.

spray lance the working pressure is adjusted by turning the reduction valve.
Low pressure Is first and foremost used for application of detergents and for washing off.
High pressure Is used for cleaning.
Intermediate pressure As an example it may be used for the cleaning of surfaces, which cannot
stand a too powerful water jet, i.e. soft surfaces.
4.3 Detergents
The most efficient cleaning is obtained from detergents in conjunction with high pressure cleaning. For that
purpose ALTO can offer you a series of products specially developed for high pressure cleaning, eg
Cleaning of vehicles, machines, stalls etc. Disinfection
Degreasing Maintenance of the high pressure washer
Descaling
The products are water-based, without phosphates, and the applied tensides (surface active substan-
ces) comply with the present requirements for easy biodegradability.
Contact your ALTO distributor for directions as to which product will fulfill your requirements.
The method of application and the dosage of the individual products appear on the product labels or the
data sheet. The dosage is adjusted on the dosing unit of the high pressure washer.
4.4 Dosing of detergents
The high pressure washer features a built-in injector enabling dosing of detergent to the water when the
cleaner is in low pressure mode. With this dosing unit it is possible to vary the dosing of detergent infini-
tely between 0-7%, and thus most cleaning jobs will be covered. Upon application of the detergent the
dosing knob should be turned clockwise to step 0 (also see section 3.1.6).

Fields of application and working methods GB
If you want a fixed adjustment of a lower max. dosing than step 5 (approx. 7%) this can be achieved in the
following way:
Adjustment of max. dosage:
1. Turn knob to step 0 (on a level with hose socket)
2. Dismount cover by pressing a flat screwdriver (approx. 3 mm) down into one of the two
grooves, enabling the cover to be tipped off.
3. Unscrew the screw by Parkers screwdriver.
4. Remove knob.
5. Lift up lock washer and turn it until the required max. dosage is now on a level with the
arrow (i.e. step 3).
6. Remount the knob - still adjusted to step 0.
7. Screw in the screw until you feel a slight resistance.
8. Press home the cover over the knob.
For foam cleaning you will have to mount the special foam injector between the high pressure washer
and the high pressure hose. Insert the suction hose of the injector into the foam detergent. Mount foam
lance on spray handle and now you are ready for foam application. Upon the application dismount the
foam injector and replace the foam lance by a spray lance and you are ready for cleaning.
4.5 Working methods
Your high pressure washer has been developed for cleaning according to the so-called 2-step method.
STEP 1 Application of detergent
STEP 2 High pressure cleaning
In practice the working process is laid down in accordance with the actual job, but as a starting point the
following working method can be described for a job:
1. Apply detergent under low pressure. The dosage is chosen according to the job, which is to be
carried out, and the adjustment is made on the dosing unit.
2. Await acting time. Let the detergent act on the dirt/surface for a short time prior to pressure clean-
ing - usually a few minutes.
3. High pressure cleaning. Clean all surfaces under high pressure.
4. Rinse afterwards, if necessary. To make sure that residual impurities are removed from the surface.
In connection with the working process the optimum cleaning will be reached by following these 3 pieces
of advice:
Advice no. 1
When using a detergent, always apply it on a dry surface. If the surface is rinsed with water at first, it
may be difficult for it to absorb the detergent, and the result is a reduced effect of the detergent.
Advice no. 2
When applying a detergent on large vertical surfaces (i.e. the sides of a truck) work from below and
upwards. Thus you will avoid detergent running off the surface through grooves and dark streaks appe-
aring on the surface whilst cleaning.
Advice no. 3
During the high pressure cleaning you should work so that the high pressure water does not run over
the surface which has not been cleaned yet. This is to ensure that there is sufficient detergent on the
surface when the high pressure water hits the surface.
For certain cleaning tasks it is an advantage if you apply detergents under high pressure - i.e. for the
dewaxing of cars.

5.0 Functional description GB
5.1 General description
The water passes from the quick coupling (1) through a water filter (2) and enters the float chamber, from
which it leads into the high pressure pump. The high pressured water leads through the discharge
system of the pump where the safety valve and the circulation valve are situated. Then it passes the
flow switches (13) and enters the boiler (15). Here the water is heated to the required temperature.
After the boiler the hot high pressure water passes the temperature sensor (17), on to the spray handle
(19) and the spray lance. The fuel is drawn from the fuel tank (32) through the fuel filter (23) by the fuel
pump (25). Now the pump leads fuel to the nozzle (16) where it is ignited.
5.2 High pressure pump, water system
On the pressure side the high pressure pump features a circulation valve. This valve leads the water
back to the suction side of the pump, when the spray handle is closed or if a nozzle is blocked. Beyond
that a safety valve has been mounted to ensure that the pressure will never exceed the preadjusted
pressure, which is approx. 25 bar above the working pressure. The valve has been adjusted and sea-
led from the factory. This adjustment must not be changed! When the machine stops it is automatically
devoid of pressure.
5.3 Electric motor
The motor is protected against overloading through two systems. A thermal cut-out has been built into
the stator windings. If the motor is overloaded or if the cooling system for the motor is interrupted the
thermal cut-out will cut off the power to stop the machine. Then it cannot be restarted on the control
panel until the motor has cooled. Besides the operation of the motor is surveyed by an electronic motor
protection device, which prevents the rated power consumption of the motor from being exceeded. In
the case of an excess the power supply for the motor will be cut off and the machine will stop. In this
case a fault code will be shown on the display (see section 7.0 Trouble shooting chart). If the power
fails, the machine must be restarted.
5.4 Burner system - control system
The burner system is surveyed and controlled by an electronic control unit with a built-in micro processor.
The operational conditions of the incorporated components of the burner system is surveyed by sensors. In
conjunction with the control unit the sensors ensure a correct function of the machine and they ensure that
the machine is stopped in the event of malfunctions, upon which a fault code is shown on the display.
The following sensors are built into the system:
-
Flow control, double (13)
Ensures the water flow through the boiler, before it can be ignited.
Allows solenoid valve (29) to open.
-
Flame sensor (light sensor) (30)
Surveys that the boiler is actually burning when fed with fuel, and that the boiler will go out when the fuel
supply is cut off.
-
Temperature sensor (17)
Measures the temperature of the high pressure water from the boiler. Dependent on higher or lower
temperature the burner will ignite or turn out.
-
Level switch for tank (24)
Ensures that the tank cannot be completely emptied. Machine stops before that happens.
-
Phase sequence pressure switch (31)
Check, by measuring the air pressure of the blower, that the motor of the machine is running in the
correct direction of rotation and that the air supply for the boiler and the motor cooling are correct.
The machine will stop, if a too low air pressure of the blower is registered.
5.5 Burner override mode
As an additional safety device a safety thermostat has been added at the inlet of the burner coil which will
detect an unacceptable rise in water temperature
before
the coil (such as might be caused by constant fuel
supply to the burner). The safety thermostat will stop the machine after approximately 40 sec. (when the
temperature at the water inlet has reached approximately 60
O
C). If the machine stops as a result of this
ever-temperature condition, no failure codes will be displayed. Arrange for service assistance immediately.

6.0 Maintenance GB
6.1 General
To ensure that your ALTO high pressure washer is always in an operational condition it is advisable to
have it checked by a ALTO service technician at regular intervals. Therefore the machine has been
fitted with an automatic service display with SERVICE-interval-timer. A flashing S on the control panel
warns that the machine should be checked at the first opportunity. When the S is flashing, it does
not
mean that a fault has arisen. It is just a reminder, and after 10 seconds the machine can be restarted in
the usual way. Usually it will be sufficient to make a habit of the following:
Before mounting the water hose and the high pressure hose the quick couplings should
be cleaned of dust and sand.
Before mounting spray lance or any other accessory on the spray handle, the machine
should be started and the quick coupling cleaned of dust and sand.
In periods where detergents are not used the injector system should be flushed through
with pure water to avoid drying up/clogging up of soap in the system.
The water filter should be cleaned once a month or more frequently as the occasion requires.
We recommend you to store the machine in a frost-free room. If by mistake the machine
freezes up, it must not be started. Let machine, hoses and accessories thaw up before
starting up.
If the room is not frost-free the machine should be protected with an anti-freeze solution.
Replace fuel filter as the occasion requires.
6.2 Descaling of coil
If your water supply is of a soft or medium quality, i.e. less than 15dH (German degree of hardness)
a descaling may not be required. However, on condition that the anti-incrustant No Scale is always
filled in.
If the hardness of the water is above 15dH, the machine should be descaled at least once the year or
as the occasion requires. Scale deposits in the spray lance or reduced heat rating indicate that a de-
scaling is required.
Descaling as follows:
1. Detach high pressure hose.
2. Turn on the inlet water.
3. Insert the suction hose for the detergent (14) in a container with descaler ALTO Stonex.
4. Adjust the dosing unit to step 5 (see section 3.1.6).
5. Start the machine in cold water mode.
6. Stop the machine when the water escaping the outlet socket has been coloured by the descaler.
Warning: The mixture may be caustic!
Do not on any occasion empty the container in order to prevent air getting into the system.
7. Let the machine stand for 20 minutes.
8. Place the suction hose (14) in a container with clean water.
9. Start the machine and let it run 5-10 minutes to have the descaler out of the system.
10. If required, repeat the procedure from item 3-9.
11. Adjust the dosing unit to step 0, and the machine is ready for operation.
Note: The descaling should always be carried through in accordance with the instructions on the de-
scaler product.
6.3 Cleaning of high pressure nozzle
A clogging up in the nozzle causes a pump pressure which is too high and cleaning is immediately required.
1. Stop the cleaner and dismount the spray lance.
2. Clean the nozzle.
IMPORTANT: ONLY use the cleaning tool when the spray lance is dismounted!
3. Flush the spray lance backwards with water.
4. If the pressure is still too high, repeat items 1-3.
