ventingofasystemtorelievethespecificpressure.
c. Locatetherupturediskwherepeopleorpropertywillnotbeexposedtothesystemdischargeinthe
eventofrupture.Venttoxicorflammablefumestoasafelocationtopreventpersonnelinjuryor
propertydamage.
d. Theburstpressureoftherupturediskisdirectlyaffectedbyitsoperatingtemperature.Itisthe
user’sresponsibilitytospecifythecorrectburstpressureratingandtoinstalltheburstplugina
locationoperatingwithinitsspecifiedtemperaturerange.Failuretoutilizearupturediskwithinits
operatingtemperaturecouldcauseprematurefailureorover‐pressurizationofthesystem.
e. Itistheuser’sresponsibilitytoensurethattheburstplugsnoutlengthandtemperaturegradient
areappropriatesothatafterburst,moltenpolymerflowssufficientlytopushtheT‐capouttheend
ofthesnout.Failuretodosocouldresultinpolymersolidifyinginthesnoutandoverpressurizing
ofthesystemandnoelectricalburstindication.
f. Itisrecommendedthattheuserinstallandburstasampleplug,toconfirmthattheburstplug
functionscorrectlyintheirparticularapplication.
g. Theintendedfunctionoftheelectricalindicationistoalertpersonneltotheoccurrenceofburstto
helppreventtheaccumulationofexpelledpolymer.Itshouldnotbeutilizedaspartofasafety
systemdesignedtoprotectpersonnel.It’spossiblethatoncethewireisshearedafteraburst,the
shearedendsofthewirewillnotseparatefromthesnoutormaycontactanothercommon
electricallyconductivesurface.Thiscouldresultinfailureofelectricalburstindication(stillshowing
aclosedcircuitafterburst).Itistheusersresponsibilitytoevaluatetheconsequencesof
unintentionalshorting,openingorgroundingofthewire.
h. Particlesmaydischargewhentherupturediskruptures.Theseparticlesmaybepartoftherupture
diskitself,orotherenvironmentalmatterinthesystem.Ititheuser’sresponsibilitytoensurethat
theparticlesaredirectedtoasafeareatopreventpersonnelinjuryorpropertydamage.
i. Rupturediskservicelifeisaffectedbycorrosion,creepandfatigue,andphysicaldamage.These
conditionswillderatetherupturedisktoalowerpressure.Theusershouldbepreparedtohandlea
prematurefailureoftherupturedisk.Themediaorotherenvironmentalconditionsshouldnot
allowforanybuilduporsolidificationofmediaontherupturedisk.Thismayincreasetheburst
ratingoftherupturedisk.
