SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS TO END-USERS

Read this manual carefully before using the packaged terminal air

conditioner to ensure proper operation of the unit.

Installation Safety Instructions

Be sure that the correct breaker is installed. If a breaker is not

installed, it may result in electric shock or other hazards!

Do not install the unit where there might be leakage of

inflammable gasses.

In the case that the gasses are leaked out and accumulated

around the unit, it may result in fire hazards or other accidents.

Be sure that the power source of the unit is properly grounded.

The grounding wire of the packaged terminal air conditioner must be firmly connected to

the grounding wire of the power source. Improper grounding will lead to possible electric

shock or other hazards.

Operating Safety Instructions

Do not pinch, stretch, damage, heat, or modify the power cord.

It may result in electric shock, overheating, fire hazard or other accidents. In case the

power cord is damaged or that a replacement for the power cord is required due to some

other reason, contact our company dealer or an authorized maintenance technician.

Do not use a fuse or breaker with the wrong capacity, or

substitute wires in place of fuses.

Improper use of wires or fuses or circuit breakers

of the wrong capacity may result in faulty performance of the unit or fire hazards.

Do not insert sticks, tools, or other objects into the air inlet or

outlet. The high-speed rotation of the fan blades may cause accidents.

Do not place such articles as insecticides, paints, or other

flammable spraying agents near the packaged terminal air conditioner or

spray them against the air conditioner. It could result in a fire hazard.

Do not wash the air conditioner with water. It may cause electric

shock or other accidents.

Do not disconnect the power cable to turn the unit off. This could

result in electric shock, fire hazard or other accidents.

Do not sit on the unit or place heavy objects on it. If the unit falls it

could cause bodily injuries or other accidents.

Check to see if the supporting parts of the units are properly

installed and secure. If the supporting parts are damaged, repair them at once so as to

prevent the unit from falling down which could cause bodily injuries.

If the air conditioner is not to be used for an extended period of time,

disconnect the air conditioner from the power socket to ensure safety. Turn

off the air conditioner before pulling out the plug.

Instructions for removal and repairs

• If the unit needs to be removed for installation elsewhere or for

repairs, please contact your dealer or an authorized technician.

• In the case of occurrence of abnormal operation (burning smell for

example), please turn the unit off, disconnect power, and contact

your dealer or an authorized technician.

Installation Procedure

To ensure that the unit operates safely and efficiently, it must

be installed by qualified or experienced technicians.

• The unit must be installed in accordance with all local codes and

national wiring regulations.

• If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the

manufacturer’s service agent or a qualified technician.

The wall sleeve must be properly installed according to the wall sleeve installation

instructions.

• When installing the outdoor grille, the mounting screws should be tightened from

the inside of the Wall Sleeve. If replacing an old chassis with an existing grille or

using a specialized grill in a new installation, contact your dealer to determine if

the new chassis should be used with the nonstandard specialized grille.

3. Installation

• Front cover removal

Remove the front cover by pulling out at the bottom to release it, then lift it up to

clear the rail along the chassis top.

• Chassis Installation

Slide the chassis into the wall sleeve until the chassis flanges contact the front

edge of the wall sleeve, and then secure with four screws through the chassis

flange holes.

• Connect the Wall Mounted Controller (if used).

Firmly connect the electrical connector of the wall mounted controller to the

electrical connector of the unit. (Located near the right bottom of the chassis)

• Front Cover Installation

Reinstall the front cover by hooking the top over the rail along the chassis top,

then pushing it in at the bottom.

4. Drain

For cooling or cooling with PTC heaters, the condensate water is blown past the

condenser and will be evaporated. It is not necessary to use any drain kit or

assembly for these models.

For heat pump units, we have provided a valve that will open when the temperature

reaches 50°F (10°C). This drain is located in the pan between the compressor and

the condenser. A drain kit maybe connected to the hole in the wall sleeve if needed.

The condensate water will be blown past the condenser eliminating as much

condensate as possible.

5. Test Operation

Connect unit to power source, check to see if the operational mode buttons work

properly.

Check to see if the room temperature control and the function control work

properly.

Check if there are abnormal sounds during operations.

Check the cool air at the outlet, the unit is operating normally when the

temperature of air outlet is 10 °F and 18 °F below the outdoor temperature.

NOTES:

• Control panel lock:

Pressing both the “WARM” and “COOL” buttons at the same time locks the control

panel. Only the “ON/OFF” button is functional when the control panel is locked. To

unlock the control panel, press both the “WARM” and “COOL” buttons at the same

time again.

• Random Time Delay Start-up

In order to prevent large electrical surges in installations where multiple units are

installed, after a power failure the unit(s) will start back up automatically after a

random time delay of 120 to 240 seconds. The unit will start back up in the

operating modes and temperature settings that were in effect prior to the power

failure.

• The fan running continuously after the temperature is satisfied.

• When changing functions, unit has a 3 minute time delay for the compressor start

up operation.

•

The Compressor will NOT operate in Heating when the outside temperature is

below 45°F and in Cooling when the outside temperature is below 57°F.

FRESH AIR EXCHANGE

1. Remove the front cover by pulling out at the bottom to release it, then lift it up to clear

the rail along the top of the chassis (Fig a).

2. Move the air exchange lever to the right for the OPEN position, to the left for the

CLOSED position (Fig B).

Note: The air exchange lever is normally placed in the CLOSED position. When it is moved

to the OPEN position, the unit will draw in fresh air, but the efficiency of the unit will be

lower.

SELF DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTIONS

The unit has a self diagnosis system that displays error codes on the display in case of

system failures. Please refer to the chart below for the error code definitions:

Notes:

• When the optional wall mounted control is installed, the

buttons on the front panel

of the PTAC unit are disabled. The indicator lamps and the digital display on the

front panel will continue to indicate the operating modes and temperatures.

• Control panel lock: Pressing both the “WARMER” and “COOLER” buttons at the

same time locks the control panel. Only the “ON/OFF” button is functional when

the control panel is locked. To unlock the control panel, press both the “WARM”

and “COOL” buttons at the same time again.

• This Wall Mounted Control does not sense the room temperature. The room

temperature sensor is in the PTAC unit return air section.

Note: the TIMER function will not operate correctly unless the correct time of day is set

on the remote control.

COOLING/FAN/HEATING mode operation:

• Press the ON/OFF button with the remote control pointing toward the front

panel of the packaged terminal air conditioner.

• Press the MODE button to select the desired mode of operation

(COOL/FAN/HEAT).

• Press the “+” or “-“button to set the desired room temperature. The

temperature setting range is 61º F to 88º F.

• Press the FAN SPEED button to set the air flow rate to “HIGH”, MED(ium), or

LOW.

NOTE: Each time a button on the remote control is pressed, you should hear a

“Beep” from the Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner indicating that it has received

the command being sent by the remote control. If no “Beep” is heard, insure that

the batteries in the remote control are fresh, and that the REMOTE CONTROL

RECEIVER on the front panel of the Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner is not

obstructed.

TIMER Mode Operation:

The Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner can be programmed to automatically turn

off or turn on after a defined time period,

The time period can be 1 to 12 hours, in 1 hour increments.

To program the unit to automatically turn off:

• The unit must be turned on.

• Press the TIMER button on the remote control.

• Press the HOUR button to select the time interval before turn off.

• A “Decimal Point” will illuminate at the bottom right side of the temperature

display on the front panel of the Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner

indicating that it is operating in the TIMER mode.

• The TIMER time indicator on the remote control will display the

programmed time interval and indicate “OFF”.

• All other functions will continue to operate normally (temperature settings,

mode settings, and fan speeds) until the unit turns off.

• At the end of the programmed time interval, the air conditioner will turn off.

• To cancel this function, press the TIMER button on the remote control

again.

To program the unit to automatically turn on:

• The unit must be turned off.

• Press the TIMER button on the remote control.

• Press the HOUR button to select the time interval before turn on.

• A “Decimal Point” will illuminate at the bottom right side of the temperature

display on the front panel of the Packaged Terminal Air Conditioner

indicating that it is operating in the TIMER mode.

• The TIMER time indicator on the remote control will display the

programmed time interval and indicate “ON”.

• At the end of the programmed time interval, the air conditioner will turn on

and operate at the settings that were selected before turning the unit off.

• To cancel this function, press the TIMER button on the remote control

again.

WALL SLEEVE INSTALLATION

To ensure the best performance of the packaged terminal air conditioner, please observe

the following wall sleeve installation procedures and do the installation in accordance with

related requirements.

1. Wall sleeve assembly

• Unpack all parts and accessories, referring to Fig. 1, assemble the wall sleeve by

first “clip-locking” the side pieces to the bottom piece, then the top piece to the

assembled side and top pieces.

• Handle the wall sleeve carefully.

• If the wall sleeve is deformed, chassis installation may be hindered. If the wall

sleeve has become deformed, straighten it before installing it in the wall.

NOTES:

1) When assembling the wall sleeve, seal the clip locks with silicone or weather resistant

tape to prevent air penetration.

2) When installing the unit into the wall sleeve, check for an air tight seal around foam

gasket. If the unit does not have an air tight seal, additional foam will be required to

prevent air penetration.

2. Wall sleeve location

When making the wall opening, please observe the following requirements:

• The air inlet and outlet should be unblocked so the air can be delivered to every

corner of the room.

• Install the unit in a location that is away from heat sources or sources of

inflammable gases.

• Install the unit in a location that is not directly exposed to sunlight.

• Do not install the unit in places that are subject to strong wind or dust.

• There should be sufficient space margins around the unit to facilitate maintenance

and repairs (refer to Figs. 2 and 3)

Note: Care should be taken in locating the electrical supply entry in relation to the

sleeve for later access.

3. Preparation of the wall

The sleeve should be installed during construction and lintels should be used to

support the block above the wall sleeve. The sleeve can not support the load of

bricks/blocks.

For existing construction, the wall opening must be created, and the proper

dimensions are necessary to avoid use of fillers or additional framing. The sleeve is

modular in height and width (refer to Fig 4 & Chart 2).

If field supplied case angles must be used during installation (Fig 5), proceed as

follows:

• Position the case angles around top and sides of sleeve to get the proper

depth, (be sure to have the angles pointing outside).

• Mark the sleeve using the case angles as a template for screws.

• Drill 5/32” hole at the marked position.

• Install # 10 x ½” screws from the outside of the sleeve, do not drill any holes in

the base of the sleeve.

4. Installation of the sleeve in the wall opening

• Place sleeve into the wall, refer to Chart 1-D2 for room side projection

(minimum ½” to a maximum 1-3/4” without sub-base). The rear (outside edge of

the sleeve should stick out a min. of ¼” past the outside wall to be able to

caulk properly. Do not seal the drain holes on the outside (grille side) of the

sleeve. If it is desired to have the rear grille flush on the outside, a drip rail

must be installed under the sleeve and caulking applied between the drip rail

and sleeve.

• To ensure the unit’s maximum efficiency, the sleeve must be installed with a

slight downward pitch from the indoor side to the outdoor side (Fig 6), then

fasten the wall sleeve (Fig 7).

• Lintels should be used to support the block above the wall sleeve (Fig 8). The

sleeve can not support the load of bricks/blocks (if directly under a window sill,

use of lintels may not be necessary).

Note: The fastening parts and wood screws etc. are supplied by the end user.

5. Weather proofing:

Weather proofing gaps between the exterior wall and the sleeve with caulking or other

equivalent weather proofing materials (Fig 9).

Note: Installation in extra thick walls:

• If the sleeve is being installed in a thick wall where the sleeve is recessed more

than 3”, an extended wall sleeve will be required with depths as called out in

chart 1.

• If the sleeve is being installed in a wall where the recess is 3” or less, a

flashing must be installed under the sleeve and extend up 2” on each side. The

flashing must include a drip rail as shown in Fig 9.

6. Electrical Requirements

• Provisions should be made to have a proper electrical outlet near the sleeve.

All wiring must be made in accordance with local codes and national electrical

codes. The line cord included with the chassis (if used) will extend to a wall

receptacle located within the area shown in Fig 10.

ELECTRIC HEATERS

1. 3,000 watt electric heaters have two banks of 1,500 watt heaters. Each electric

heater bank has a UL recognized limit switch set at 120°F.

2. 5,000 watt electric heaters have two banks of 2,500 watt heaters. Each electric

heater bank has a UL recognized limit switch set at 120°F.

3. All electric heater banks have porcelain insulators securing the heating elements

to the heater frame.

4. 3,000 watt heaters should be able to heat the ambient air by 20°F. The difference

between the intake air and the discharge air should be a minimum increase of

20°F.

5. 5,000 watt heaters should be able to heat the ambient air by 28°F. The difference

between the intake air and the discharge air should be a minimum increase of

28°F.

6. Limit Switches: There are two temperature switches in the heater assembly. The

120°F switch will cut the heaters off when the temperature reaches 120°F and will

allow the heaters to energize when the temperature decreases to 90°F. The

second switch (thermal fuse) will disconnect power to the heaters if the

temperature reaches 170°F and will not turn power on to the heaters again. If this

thermal fuse is activated the heaters must be replaced.
