1Introduc tion
1.1 IMPORTANT ______________________________________________________________
The Jacobsen GA580 is a PTO driven aerator. The aerator must be attached to a suitable tractor.
If you follow all instructions in this manual, you increase the life of your aerator and keep its maximum performance.
Adjustments and maintenance must always be done by an approved technician.
IMPORTANT: Do the maintenance included in this manual to make sure that the quality is kept at a high level.
This Technical MANUAL is part of the aerator and must stay with the aerator always. Suppliers of both original and
used aerators need to keep the documentation that comes with the aerator.
You must use the aerator to aerate the turf and not for any other purpose. Compliance with the conditions of operation,
service and repair specified by the manufacturer, are understood to be part of the correct use.
ALL operators MUST read through this manual and understand the Safety Instructions, operation, lubrication and
maintenance procedures.
Make sure that you obey all safety and road traffic regulations.
You must not make any changes to the aerator that the manufacturer does not approve. This type of change can
release the manufacturer from the liability for any damage or injury.
When you discard worn parts, know the environmental result and use the systems available in the country where the
aerator is used. When the aerator is at its end of life, there are guidelines in this manual for the removal of the aerator
from use.
Use only Jacobsen approved parts.
2006/42/EC
The instructions recorded here are the original instructions confirmed by Textron Specialized Vehicles.

5 INITIAL INSPECTION AND SET-UP
en-19
5Initial Inspection and Set-Up
5.1 GENERAL________________________________________________________________
The inspection and assembly of the aerator must be done by an authorized technician.
Accessories not included with this product must be ordered separately. See instructions provided with accessory for
installation and parts.
5.2 INITIAL INSPECTION_______________________________________________________
Do a visual inspection of the aerator. Look for indications of wear or loose hardware. Look for any components that are
not included on the aerator or damaged components.
Check the paint and the decals for damage or scratches. The decals supply important information. Replace all missing
or damaged decals.
Check the chain tension.
Lubricate the aerator.
The aerator is shipped with the gearbox completely filled with oil. The oil must be drained to the correct level before the
aerator is operated. See 8.3
5.3 PTO LOCK _______________________________________________________________
The aerator has a PTO lock installed that prevents the
movement of the gearbox shafts. Remove the PTO lock
before the aerator is attached to the tractor.
When the PTO shaft is not attached to the aerator, install the
PTO lock.
To remove the PTO lock, remove the two pins (B) and remove
the PTO lock (A) from the gearbox shaft. Store the PTO lock
for future use.
To assemble the PTO lock, put the PTO lock (A) on the PTO
shaft. Install the two pins (B) to fasten the PTO lock.
CAUTION
Do not drive the tractor unless you know the controls and the correct operation.
CAUTION
The inspection must be done each day when the engine is turned off. Lower the aerator to the ground, engage the
parking brake, stop the engine and remove the ignition key.
