Face Mantels
Models: FM36TO AND FM42TO
ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
IMPORTANT: Read entire instruction sheet be-
fore assembling or installing mantel kit.
The FM36 series face mantels are only approved
for use with any FMI PRODUCTS, LLC 36'' wood
or gas replace. Do not use mantel with any
other product.
The FM42 series face mantels are only approved
for use with any FMI PRODUCTS, LLC 42'' wood
or gas replace. Do not use mantel with any
other product.
This mantel kit contains the following:
• Mantel pieces (unassembled)
#1 Top Assembly
#2 Left Leg
#3 Right Leg
#4 Top Inside Trim
#5 Left Inside Trim
#6 Right Inside Trim
*Hardware Package
The hardware items needed from hardware kit:
• 6 - 1 1/4" Screws
• 9 - 1 1/2'' Finishing Nails
• 4 - 3'' Wood Screws
• 4 - Wall Anchors
• 4 - Button Caps
Tools required:
• #2 Phillips Screwdriver
• Drill
• 1/16'' Drill Bits
If any wood pieces are missing or damaged, contact the dealer
where you purchased this mantel for replacement. If hardware
is missing or damaged, contact FMI PRODUCTS, LLC at
1-866-328-4537 for referral information. You can also visit
FMI PRODUCTS, LLC’s web site at www.fmiproducts.com.
Note: Gather all mantel pieces together before assembling
mantel.
WARNING: Only use screws provided to
assemble mantel. Damage to mantel will result
if other screws are used for this purpose.

IMPORTANT: Do not hammer key. For thick walls (over 1/2''
thick) or solid walls , do not pop open wings.

ASSEMBLING FACE MANTEL
IMPORTANT: More than one person is required to
lift assembled mantel. Lift mantel by top assem-
bly. Lifting by mantel legs could damage mantel.
1. Laytopassemblyonoor,facedown.Placeleftlegover
top assembly (see Figure 1). Align trim to the outside
edge and attach with three 1 1/4'' screws from hardware
package. Repeat with right leg.
2. Carefully stand leg and top assembly upright.

INSTALLING FACE MANTEL
1. Placefacemantelinfrontofreplace.Centeropening
betweenleftandrightlegwithopeningofreplace.
2. Mantelmustbeushwithwall.Removebaseboardand
alter to lift mantel. Baseboard will prevent proper instal-
lation of mantel
3. If holes in legs line up with wall studs, fasten to wall with
3'' screws and proceed to step 6. See Figure 2. If holes do
not line up with wall studs, mark the center of the holes on
the wall with either a 1/16'' or 1/8'' drill bit to know where
the anchor should go. You will not be able to use a pencil.
Set mantel aside.
4. To use wall anchors, drill hole at marked location using a
5/16'' drill bit. Fold wall anchor (see Figure 2) and insert
(wingsrst)intohole.Tapanchorushintowall.Forthin
walls (1/2'' or less), insert red key into wall anchor and
push to "pop"open anchor wings (see Figure 3).
5. Align holes in legs with wall anchors. Attach to wall an-
chors using 3'' screws.
6. Push buttons into holes in legs to cover screw heads (see
Figure 4).
7. Once face mantel is secure to the wall, attach trim pieces
to conceal gap (see Figure 5).
