2.3.2 Circulation pumps
TheRemehaAvantaPlus18s,24s,24cand28carefittedwith
the Grundfos UPR 15-60 and the Avanta Plus 30s, 35c and
39cwiththeUPR15-70,two-speedcirculationpumps.The
controlunitensuresthatwhenthehot-waterfunctionisactive,
the pump runs at ‘high’. The factory setting of the pump for CH
functionis‘low.’Ifnecessary,theserviceinstallercanadjust
thisto‘high’byswitchingparameter21 (from 0 to 1)see
par. 2.9.8.
2.3.3 Additional guidelines for the domestic and CH
water
• Thesystemshouldbefilledwithmainscoldwater(forthe
UKthiswillusuallyhaveapHofbetween7and8).
• Flushthepipesandradiatorsthoroughlytoremoveallfluxes
and debris before connecting the boiler to the central heat-
ing system.
• Thetemperatureofthecentralheatingpipesandthe
radiators can rise to 95°C.
• UseuntreatedtapwateronlytofilltheCHsystem.
• ThepHvalueofthesystemwatermustbebetween6and9
• Incaseinhibitorsarebeingused,pleasefollowthe
instructions given in par. 2.3.4.
2.3.4 Water treatment
Ifusedcorrectlywatertreatmentcanimprovetheboilers
efficiency and increase the anticipated life expectancy of the
boiler. For further information a special document “Quality
requirementsCHwater”isavailablefromRemeha.
As most systems contain a variety of metals, it is considered
goodpracticetoprovidesomeformofwatertreatmentinorder
topreventorreducethefollowing:
• Metalliccorrosion
• Formationofscaleandsludge
• Microbiologicalcontamination
• Chemicalchangesintheuntreatedsystemwater
Allscaledepositshoweversmallwillreducetheefficiencyof
the boiler and should be prevented.
Suitablechemicalsandtheiruseshouldbediscussedwitha
specialistwatertreatmentcompanypriortocarryingoutany
work(environmentalaspects,healthaspects).Thespecifica-
tion of the system and manufacturers recommendations must
betakenintoaccount,alongwiththeageandconditionof
thesystem.Newsystemsshouldbeflushedthoroughlyto
BS7593(1992)toremovealltracesofflux,debris,grease
andmetalswarfgeneratedduringinstallation.Caretobe
takenwitholdsystemstoensureanyblackmetallicironoxide
sludge and other corrosive residues are removed, again by
powerflushing,ensuringthatthesystemisdrainedcompletely
fromalllowpoints.
