Before using your fridge freezer for the rst time
Before using your fridge freezer for the rst time:
Remove all packaging materials, keep them out of children’s reach and
dispose them in an environmentally friendly manner.
Clean the inside and outside of the appliance, as well as the interior and
accessories with water and a mild detergent and dry it well with soft
cloth.
After the appliance has been levelled and cleaned, wait for at least 2
hours before connecting it to the power supply. This allows efcient
operation and prevents damage to the compressor.
Switch on the fridge freezer and allow it to cool down before placing
any food in it. You may want to use the Fast Freeze and Quick Cool
functions to cool the compartments down more quickly.
When the fridge freezer is rst plugged in, the default temperature settings
for the fridge and freezer are 5 °C and -18 °C respectively. These are the
recommended operating settings in normal conditions. If desired, you can
change these temperatures manually.
When the fridge freezer is rst plugged in, the default setting for the 0 °C
Zone is Chiller.
Note: When the appliance is rst switched on (or switched on after
disconnection from the main power supply), it may take up to 12 hours for
the correct temperatures to be reached.
Switching the fridge freezer on/off
The fridge freezer is in operation as soon as it is plugged in to the power
supply. The control panel will show the actual temperatures in each
compartment. The panel lock may be active.

set to 17 °C.
13
0 °C Zone box
The fridge compartment contains a 0 °C Zone box. This allows you to
select the most suitable temperatures to get the best use of the food
stored in the box. The 0 °C Zone has three settings:
Chiller
Defrost
Quick cool
Chiller
The chiller setting is intended to store fresh food, such as meat or
instant products. The temperature in the 0 °C Zone box is set to 0 °C
because most food will stay fresh at 0 °C but will not freeze.
When you select the chiller setting, we recommend that you set the
fridge temperature to a middle level (5 °C) to provide an optimal
temperature to help preserve your food.
Due to the different water content of meat, some meat with more
moisture will freeze at different temperatures below 0 °C. We
recommend that ‘immediately-cut’ meat should be stored in the 0 °C
Zone box with the chiller setting.
Cold-sensitive fruit (such as pineapple, avocado, bananas and grapefruit),
vegetables (such as potatoes, aubergines, beans, cucumber, courgettes
and tomatoes) or cheese should not be stored in the 0 °C Zone box.
Defrost
The defrost setting allows you to defrost frozen food without leaving
any liquid residue on the food after defrosting. Food will be left partly
frozen, ideal for cutting or cooking. The temperature in the 0 °C Zone
box is set to 1 °C.
Defrosting time may vary according to the size and thickness of the
food. The following can be used as a guide:
500 g = 7 hours
1,000 g = 8 hours
1,500 g = 10 hours.
Quick cool
The quick cool setting allows you to chill canned beverages quickly. The
temperature in the 0 °C Zone box is set to -1 °C.
Note: Remove any bottles from the 0 °C Zone box before selecting
the quick cool setting. Bottles may become frozen and be damaged.
To select one of the 0 °C Zone settings, press the 0 °C Zone repeatedly
until the indicator for the desired setting is ashing. If no keys are pressed
for a few seconds, the indicator will stop ashing and remain lit. The setting
is now saved.
Note: One of the 0 °C Zone settings must always be activated. When
the fridge freezer is switched on for the rst time, the 0 °C Zone is set to
Chiller.

Multi air ow
The refrigerator is equipped with a multi air ow system which helps to
maintain a uniform temperature and ensures that your food is kept fresher
for longer. Cool air ows are located on every shelf level.
Foldable bottle rack
The refrigerator is equipped with a bottle rack which can be folded away
when not in use to save space. To use the bottle rack:
1. Pull down the brackets of the bottle rack.
2. Fit the bottles in the rack.
Note: Make sure that the total weight of bottles in the bottle rack does not
exceed 10 Kg.
Sealed box
The sealed box is used to store small items, such as jam, cheese, tomato
puree, etc.
Do not open the door of the sealed box more than 120°, as it may damage
the box.
Fruit, vegetables and salad box
The humidity level in this box is automatically maintained at approximately
90%. This box is suitable for the storage of fruit, vegetables and salad.
Extendable freezer drawers
The freezer drawers are mounted on telescopic runners which means that
they can be pulled fully out, making it easier to store and remove frozen
food from the drawers. There is also an automatic door closing mechanism
to help you save energy.
Note: Make sure that the total weight of frozen food in each freezer
drawer does not exceed 35 Kg.
Pre-freezing rack
Each freezer drawer contains a pre-freezing rack which allows you to
separate fresh food to be frozen from already frozen food in the drawer.
This prevents the already frozen food from partly defrosting because of the
difference in temperature between it and the fresh food.
The pre-freezing rack can also be used to store smaller frozen items, such
as herbs, ice lollies or the ice cube tray.
Fresher pad
The fresher pad can be used for:
Quick freezing
Quick defrosting.
Quick freezing
The fresher pad can be used in the freezer to speed up freezing time.
Food will freeze up to three times faster than it would without the
fresher pad, ice crystal formation will be minimised and the quality of the
frozen food will not be reduced.
15
To use the fresher pad for freezing:
1. Make sure that the fresher pad is dry.
2. Place the fresher pad in the slot in the upper freezer drawer with
the words ‘Fresher Pad’ up.
3. Place the food to be frozen on the fresher pad.
Quick defrosting
The fresher pad can be used outside the appliance to speed up
defrosting time. Food will defrost up to ve times faster than it would
without the fresher pad.
To use the fresher pad for defrosting:
1. Place the fresher pad on a at surface outside the appliance with
the words ‘Fresher Pad’ up.
2. Allow the fresher pad to warm up to room temperature.
3. Place the food to be defrosted on the fresher pad.
Note: Do not touch the aluminium parts of the fresher pad when using it in
the freezer compartment as unprotected skin may freeze to the surface.
Ice cube tray
To make ice cubes:
1. Fill the ice cube tray ¾ full of water.
2. Place the cover on the ice cube tray.
3. Put the ice cube tray in the freezer and allow time for the water to
freeze.
To dispense ice cubes from the tray, remove the cover then twist the tray
slightly. If necessary, hold the tray under owing water to loosen the ice
cubes.
Dynamic ABT
The dynamic ABT function sterilises, cleans and deodorises the refrigerator
compartment.
Fan shield
The fan shield (behind the back wall of the refrigerator) limits the effects of
temperature uctuations and prevents ice formation in the refrigerator. This
helps food preservation and saves energy.
Door opening alarm
The door opening alarm sounds if the refrigerator door is open for more
than 3 minutes. The door opening alarm can be silenced by closing the
door.
If the door is open for more than 7 minutes, the interior light will go out
and the control panel illumination will automatically stop.

Tips on storing fresh food
Keep your fridge temperature below 5 °C.
Hot food must be cooled to room temperature before storing in the
appliance.
Foods stored in the fridge should be washed and dried before storing.
Food to be stored should be properly sealed to avoid odour or taste
alterations.
Do not store excessive quantities of food. Leave space between
foods to allow cold air to ow around them, for a better and more
homogeneous cooling.
Foods eaten daily should be stored at the front of the shelf.
Leave a gap between foods and the inner walls, allowing air ow.
Do not store foods touching the rear wall. Food could freeze against
rear wall.
Avoid direct contact of food (especially oily or acidic food) with the
inner liner, as oil/acid can erode the inner liner. Clean away oily/acid dirt
whenever it is found.
Defrost frozen food in the fridge storage compartment or with the
Defrost function in the 0 °C Zone box. This way, you can use the
frozen food to reduce the temperature in the compartment and save
energy.
Different kinds of food should be placed in different areas according to
their properties:
1. Butter, cheese, eggs, spices, etc.
2. Eggs, canned food, spices, etc.
3. Jam, cheese, tomato sauce, etc.
4. Drinks and bottled foods.
5. Pickled foods, canned food, etc.
6. Meat products, snack foods, pasta, milk, tofu, dairy, etc.
7. Wine, champagne, etc.
8. Cooked meat, sausages, etc.
9. 0 °C Zone box: canned beverages (Quick cool), raw fresh food
(chiller), frozen food to be defrosted (Defrost).
10. Fruit, vegetables, salad, etc.
17
Instruction Manual
JLFFMDSS6001
Fridge freezer
The ageing process of fruit and vegetables such as courgettes, melons,
papaya, banana, pineapple, etc. can be accelerated in the fridge.
Therefore, it is not advisable to store them in the fridge. However, the
ripening of strong green fruits can be promoted for a certain period.
Onions, garlic, ginger and other root vegetables should be stored at
room temperature.
Unpleasant odours inside the fridge are an indication that something has
spilled and should be cleaned immediately.
Tips on storing frozen food
Keep the freezer temperature at -18 °C.
24 hours before freezing additional items switch on Fast Freeze mode
(for small quantities of food 4-6 hours is sufcient).
Hot food must be cooled to room temperature before storing in the
freezer compartment.
Food cut into small portions will freeze faster and is easier to defrost
and cook. The recommended weight for each portion is less than 2.5 kg
It is better to pack food before putting it into the freezer. The outside
of the packaging must be dry to avoid bags sticking together. Packaging
materials should be odour-free, airtight, non-poisonous and non-toxic.
To avoid expiration of storage periods, we recommend that you make
a note of the freezing date, time limit and name of the food on the
packaging according to the storage periods of different foods.
Acid, alkali and salt etc. can erode the internal surface of the freezer. Do
not place food which includes these substances (e.g. sea sh) directly
on the internal surface. Salt water in the freezer should be cleaned up
immediately.
Do not exceed the food storage times recommended by the
manufacturers.
Only take the required amount of food out of the freezer.
Consume defrosted food quickly. Defrosted food cannot be re-frozen
unless it is rst cooked, otherwise it may cause a health hazard.
Do not load excessive quantities of fresh food in the freezer
compartment. Refer to the freezing capacity of the freezer – see the
technical data or the type plate.
Food can be stored in the freezer at a temperature of at least -18 °C
for 2 to 12 months, depending on its properties (e.g., meat: 3-12
months, vegetables: 6-12 months).
When freezing fresh food, avoid bringing it in contact with already
frozen food as there may be a risk of thawing the frozen food.
When storing commercially frozen foods, please follow these guidelines:
Always follow manufacturers’ guidelines for the length of time you
should store food for. Do not exceed these guidelines.
Try to keep the length of time between purchase and storage as short
as possible to preserve food quality.
Buy frozen foods which have been stored at a temperature of -18 °C or
below.
Avoid buying food which has ice or frost on the packaging – this may
indicate that the products have been partially defrosted and refrozen at
some point.

Fridge freezer
Care and cleaning
The fridge freezer should be cleaned every four weeks for good
maintenance and to prevent bad food odours. It should be cleaned when
there is little or no food stored.
Before cleaning the fridge freezer, familiarise yourself with the warnings on
page 7.
Note: Switch off and unplug the fridge freezer before carrying out any
cleaning.
To clean the fridge freezer:
Clean the interior and exterior casing using a sponge or cloth with
water and mild (neutral) detergent.
Rinse and dry with a soft cloth.
Clean the accessories with warm water and a neutral detergent.
Allow at least 5 minutes before restarting the fridge freezer as frequent
starting may damage the compressor.
Note: Do not clean any part of the fridge freezer in a dishwasher.
Clean the ice container periodically with warm water, especially if ice cubes
have got old and stale. Dry the container thoroughly before putting it back
into the appliance to prevent ice cubes from sticking to the walls.
The shelves (A) can be removed for cleaning or adjusted to t your storage
needs. To remove a shelf:
1. Make sure that there is nothing on the shelf.
2. Lift the back edge and pull the shelf towards you.
To reinstall the shelf, put it on the lugs on both sides and gently push it as
far back as possible until the rear of the shelf is xed inside the slots in the
sides. Make sure that both sides of the shelf are level.
The door racks/bottle holder (B) can be removed for cleaning:
1. Place hands on each side of the rack/holder and lift it upwards.
2. Pull the door rack/bottle holder out.
To insert the door rack/bottle holder, place it in the correct position in the
door and press it down until it is secure.
The bottle holders in the freezer compartment are intended for temporary
storage of spirits with a high alcohol content. Beverage without high alcohol
content should be cooled in the fridge.
Additionally you can store small items in the bottle holders.
To remove the drawer (C) from the fridge or freezer compartment:
1. Make sure that the drawer is empty.
2. Pull the drawer out to the maximum extent.
3. Lift the drawer up and remove it from the fridge or freezer.
To insert the drawer, put it on the lugs on both sides and gently push it as

The optional OK temperature indicator (F) on the inner wall of the fridge, is
used to monitor temperatures below 4 °C. If the sign does not indicate OK,
gradually reduce the temperature.
Defrosting
Defrosting the fridge and the freezer is done automatically - no manual
operation is needed.
Replacing the LED lights
The LED interior light comes on when the door is opened. The
performance of the lights is not affected by any of the appliance’s other
settings.
Do not replace the LED lamp yourself. It must be replaced by either the
manufacturer or an authorised service agent.
Removable auxiliary door gaskets
There are six auxiliary door gaskets on the upper and lower freezer drawer.
To order auxiliary door gaskets, contact John Lewis customer service.
To attach the auxiliary door gaskets:
1. Locate the ve indicated door gaskets on the upper and lower freezer
drawer.
2. Make sure that the bent slices of the gaskets point inwards when
attaching.
3. Locate the lower gasket of the upper drawer.
4. Make sure the bent slice of this gasket points downwards when
attaching.
Power disruption
In the event of a power cut, your fridge freezer will preserve your frozen
food for approximately 13 hours.
If the power cut lasts for longer than 13 hours:
Do not open the door.
Do not put additional food into the fridge freezer.
Tip: If you have prior notice of a power cut and you expect it to last longer
than 13 hours, make some ice and place it in a container on the top shelf of
the fridge compartment.
Once the power cut is over, check the food in the fridge freezer. The
temperature in the fridge will rise during a power cut or other failure and
the storage period and edible quality of food will be reduced. We strongly
recommend that any food which has defrosted either be consumed, or
cooked and refrozen (where suitable) to prevent health risks.
Note: When power is restored, the fridge freezer will retain the same
memory settings it had before power cut.
