1. About the Product
This product is a USB 2.0 supporting counter unit, which adds the function of counting
pulse signals input from external devices through a USB port to a PC.
It has four channels of 32-bit up/down counters, allowing external devices such as a rotary
encoder and a linear scale to be connected. Input interface of pulse signal is opto-coupler
isolated input.
Compact design, (188.0(W)×78.0(D)×30.5(H)mm), features flexibility in installation. The
product can be set on the floor, wall, and inside the console or equipment with the DIN rail.

3. Safety Precautions
Understand the following definitions and precautions to use the product safely.
Safety Information
DANGER
Do not use the product in locations exposed to a flammable or corrosive gas. It may
cause explosion, fire, electrical shock, or malfunction.
CAUTION
This product contains precision electronic elements and must not be used in locations
subject to physical shock or strong vibration. Otherwise, the product may malfunction,
overheat, or cause a failure.
It may cause a trouble in recognizing and operating the device according to the kind of
USB hub.
Do not use or store this product in high temperature or low temperature surroundings,
or do not expose it to extreme temperature changes. Otherwise, the product may mal-
function, overheat, or cause a failure.
Do not use or store this device where it is exposed to direct sunlight or near stoves or
other sources of heat. Otherwise, the product may malfunction, overheat, or cause a fail-
ure.
Do not use the product in the vicinity of devices that generate strong magnetic force or
noise. Otherwise, the product may malfunction, overheat, or cause a failure.
Do not touch this product's metal plated units (USB connector) with your hand.
Otherwise, the unit may malfunction, overheat, or cause a failure. When you touch the
product, wipe it clean with industrial alcohol.
Do not close the ventilation hole(s) of this product by, for example, placing an object.
This may cause overheating, malfunction, and/or failure of the product.
Do not touch this product's power connector or interface connector with your hand.
Otherwise, the product may malfunction, overheat, or cause a failure due to static
electricity.
Do not set or remove the power connector and the internet connector when the power
is on. This may cause a failure.
Do not plug or unplug the 12-24VDC power with the product while the 12-24VDC is
outputting the voltage. This may cause a failure.
Do not operate switches when the power is on. This may cause a failure.
When connecting multiple products, set one product at a time. Complete the setup
before starting to connect the next product.
The specifications of the product are subject to change without notice for enhancement
and quality improvement. Even when using the product continuously, be sure to read the
manual in the CONTEC's website and understand the contents.
Do not modify the product. CONTEC will bear no responsibility for any problems, etc.,
resulting from modifying the product.
The product must always be accompanied with this Setup Guide.
When disposing of the product, follow the disposal procedures stipulated under the rel-

Usage limitation
This product has not been developed or manufactured to be used in systems including the
equipment which is directly related to human lives *1 or the equipment which involves hu-
man safety and may significantly affect the maintenance of public functions *2. Therefore,
do not use the product for such purposes. Use outside The U.S. may conflict with radio laws
and regulations of the country concerned. Please do not use outside The U.S.

Setting Switch
There are two setting switches. “x16” and “x1” represent high bits and low bits of Module
ID respectively.
Factory settings “00” can be used when only one device per model is connected to one
computer. Each device should be assigned a unique Module ID in the range of 00 - 7Fh
when several devices with the same model are being connected.

Input resistance of counter input signals and general-purpose input signals can be set with
the piano switch equipped on the top and the bottom faces of the product.
5V or 12V is available by switching the switch.

Pull-Up Setting Switch
5V pull-up of input signals for sampling control can be enabled or disabled with the piano
switch equipped on the bottom face of the product.
Set to the switch to OFF when the other voltage such as 3.3V is used, and pull-up externally.
Set to the switch to ON when the control input signals are not used.

6. Setup
Driver software API-CNT(WDM) for USB is required to setup this product. Download the
software from the CONTEC website beforehand. (https://www.contec.com/download/)
Follow the steps below to set up.
1. Software installation
STEP1: Extract the downloaded file. (ZIP)
STEP2: After the extraction, execute Setup.exe in the INF folder to install.
For Windows 10, execute Setup.exe in the Cnt_ForWin10 folder. If it is not Windows
10, execute Setup.exe in the Cnt folder.
2. Hardware installation
STEP1: Connect AC adapter to the product. Then turn the power on.
STEP2: Confirm that the Power LED of this product is lit.
STEP3: Connect the product and the host computer with a USB cable.
STEP4: Installation process will finish automatically.
After that, proceed to “3. Software initialization”.
If the "Found New Hardware Wizard" appears, select "Install the software automati-
cally" and click the "Next" button.
3. Software initialization
STEP1: Run Device Manager.
STEP2: The installed hardware appears under the CONTEC Devices node. Open the
CONTEC Devices node and select the device you want to setup. Click [Properties].
STEP3: Enter the device name in the common settings tab page and then click [OK].
The device name you set here is used later when programming.
STEP4: When you click "Diagnosis" on the common setting tab page, the diagnostic
program starts up.
For details of the diagnostic program, refer to the driver help.
You can use the default device name as it is displayed. When making changes, make
sure that the device names do not overlap among multiple devices.
Above completes the settings.
