Ethernet interface configuration commands
General Ethernet interface configuration
commands
broadcast-suppression
Syntax
broadcast-suppression { ratio | pps max-pps | kbps max-kbps }
undo broadcast-suppression
View
Ethernet interface view, port group view
Default level
2: System level
Parameters
ratio: Sets the broadcast suppression threshold as a percentage of the port transmission capability, in the
range 1 to 100. The smaller the percentage, the less broadcast traffic is allowed to pass through.
pps max-pps: Sets the broadcast suppression threshold in pps to limit the number of broadcast packets
passing through the Ethernet port per second.
• For a Gigabit port, the value range is 1 to 1488100.
• For a 10-Gigabit port, the value range is 1 to 14881000.
kbps max-bps: Sets the broadcast suppression threshold in kbps to limit the number of kilobits of
broadcast traffic passing through the Ethernet port per second.
• For a Gigabit port, the value range is 1 to 1000000.
• For a 10-Gigabit port, the value range is 1 to 10000000.
Description
Use the broadcast-suppression command to set the broadcast suppression threshold on one or multiple
Ethernet interfaces.
Use the undo broadcast-suppression command to restore the default.
By default, Ethernet interfaces do not suppress broadcast traffic.
If you execute this command in Ethernet interface, the configuration takes effect only on the current
interface. If you execute this command in port-group view, the configuration takes effect on all the ports
in the port group.
When broadcast traffic exceeds the broadcast suppression threshold, the interface discards broadcast
packets until the broadcast traffic drops below the threshold.
2
NOTE:
• If you set different broadcast suppression thresholds in Ethernet interface view or port-group view
multiple times, the one configured last takes effect.
• For a particular type of traffic, confi
g
ure either storm suppression or storm control, but not both. If both
of them are configured, you may fail to achieve the expected storm control effect.
Examples
# Set the broadcast suppression threshold to 20% on Ethernet interface GigabitEthernet 1/0/1.
<Sysname> system-view
[Sysname] interface gigabitethernet 1/0/1

View
Ethernet interface view
Default level
2: System level
Parameters
text: Creates an interface description, a string of 1 to 80 characters. Valid characters and symbols
include English letters (A to Z, a to z), digits (0 to 9), special English characters, spaces, and other
Unicode characters and symbols.
NOTE:
• Each Unicode character takes the space of two regular characters.
• To use a type of Unicode characters or symbols in an interface description, install the specific input
method editor and lo
g
in to the device throu
g
h remote lo
g
in software that supports this character type.
• When the length of a description string reaches or exceeds the maximum line width on the terminal
software, the software starts a new line, possibly breaking a Unicode character into two. As a result,
garbled characters may be displayed at the end of a line.
Description
Use the description command to change the description of the current interface.
Use the undo description command to restore the default.
3
The default description of an interface is the interface name plus Interface. For example,
GigabitEthernet1/0/1 Interface.
Related commands: display interface.
Examples
# Change the description of interface GigabitEthernet 1/0/1 to lanswitch-interface.

Table 3 display interface command (in bridge mode) output description
Field Description
current state
Physical state of the Ethernet interface. For more information, see Table
4.
IP Packet Frame Type Ethernet framing format on the port.
Hardware address Hardware address of the port.
Description Description of the port.
Loopback Loopback testing status on the port.
Unknown-speed mode The port will negotiate a speed with its peer.
unknown-duplex mode The port will negotiate a duplex mode with its peer.
The Maximum Frame Length The maximum Ethernet frame length allowed on the port.
Broadcast MAX-ratio
Broadcast suppression threshold as a percentage of the port
transmission capability. When the threshold is exceeded, the port
drops broadcast packets.
Unicast MAX-ratio
Unknown unicast suppression threshold as a percentage of the port
transmission capability. When the threshold is exceeded, the port
drops unknown unicast packets.
Multicast MAX-ratio
Multicast suppression threshold as a percentage of the port
transmission capability. When the threshold is exceeded, the port
drops multicast packets.
PVID Default VLAN ID.
Mdi type Cable type.
Port link-type Link type of the port, which could be access, trunk, and hybrid.
8
Field Description
Tagged VLAN ID VLANs for which the port sends packets without removing VLAN tags.
Untagged VLAN ID VLANs for which the port sends packets after removing VLAN tags.
Peak value of input Peak value of inbound traffic, in Bps.
Peak value of output Peak value of outbound traffic, in Bps.
Last 300 seconds input: 0
packets/sec 0 bytes/sec
Last 300 seconds output: 0
packets/sec 0 bytes/sec
Average rate of input and output traffic in the last 300 seconds, in pps
and Bps.
Input (total): 0 packets, 0 bytes
0 unicasts, 0 broadcasts, 0
multicasts, 0 pauses
Inbound traffic statistics (in packets and bytes) for the port. All inbound
normal and abnormal packets, and pause frames were counted.
Input (normal): 0 packets, - bytes
0 unicasts, 0 broadcasts, 0
multicasts, 0 pauses
Inbound normal traffic and pause frame statistics (in packets and
bytes) for the port.
input errors Inbound error packet statistics.
runts
Inbound frames shorter than 64 bytes, in correct format, and
containing valid CRCs.
giants
Frames received that were longer than the maximum frame length
supported on the interface.
• For an Ethernet interface that forbids jumbo frames, giants refer to
frames that are longer than 1536 bytes (without VLAN tags) or
1540 bytes (with VLAN tags).
• For an Ethernet interface that permits jumbo frames, giants refer to
frames that are longer than 9212 bytes (without VLAN tags) or 9216
bytes (with VLAN tags).
throttles
The number of times that the port shut down because of buffer or CPU
overload.
frame
Total number of inbound frames that contained checksum errors and a
non-integer number of bytes.
- overruns
Number of packet drops because the input rate of the port exceeded
the queuing capability.
aborts
Total number of illegal inbound packets, including:
• Fragment frames—CRC error frames shorter than 64 bytes. The
length could be an integer or non-integer value.
• Jabber frames—Frames that were longer than the maximum frame
length supported on the Ethernet interface and contained checksum
errors (the frame lengths in bytes may or may not be integers). For
an Ethernet interface that permits jumbo frames, jabber frames refer
to frames that are longer than 9212 bytes (without VLAN tags) or
9216 bytes (with VLAN tags) and contain checksum errors; for an
Ethernet interface that forbids jumbo frames, jabber frames refer to
frames that are longer than 1536 bytes (without VLAN tags) or
1540 bytes (with VLAN tags) and contain checksum errors.
• Unknown operation code frames—Non-pause MAC control
frames.
