1 SAFETY
NOTE: The unit is tested by ESAB in a general set-up. The responsibility for safety and
function, of the specific set-up, lies with the integrator.
Users of ESAB equipment have the ultimate responsibility for ensuring that anyone who
works on or near the equipment observes all the relevant safety precautions. Safety
precautions must meet the requirements that apply to this type of equipment. The following
recommendations should be observed in addition to the standard regulations that apply to
the workplace.
All work must be carried out by trained personnel well-acquainted with the operation of the
equipment. Incorrect operation of the equipment may lead to hazardous situations which can
result in injury to the operator and damage to the equipment.
1. Anyone who uses the equipment must be familiar with:
its operation
location of emergency stops
its function
relevant safety precautions
welding and cutting or other applicable operation of the equipment
2. The operator must ensure that:
no unauthorised person is stationed within the working area of the equipment
when it is started up
no-one is unprotected when the arc is struck or work is started with the
equipment
3. The workplace must:
be suitable for the purpose
be free from drafts
4. Personal safety equipment:
Always wear recommended personal safety equipment, such as safety glasses,
flame-proof clothing, safety gloves
Do not wear loose-fitting items, such as scarves, bracelets, rings, etc., which
could become trapped or cause burns
5. General precautions:
Make sure the return cable is connected securely
Work on high voltage equipment may only be carried out by a qualified
electrician
Appropriate fire extinguishing equipment must be clearly marked and close at
hand
Lubrication and maintenance must not be carried out on the equipment during
operation

This product is solely intended for arc welding.

WARNING!
Arc welding and cutting can be injurious to yourself and others. Take precautions
when welding and cutting. Ask for your employer's safety practices which should be
based on manufacturers' hazard data.
ELECTRIC SHOCK - Can kill
Install and earth the unit in accordance with applicable standards
Do not touch live electrical parts or electrodes with bare skin, wet gloves or
wet clothing
Insulate yourself from earth and the workpiece
Ensure your working stance is safe
FUMES AND GASES - Can be dangerous to health
Keep your head out of the fumes
Use ventilation, extraction at the arc, or both, to take fumes and gases away
from your breathing zone and the general area
ARC RAYS - Can injure eyes and burn skin
Protect your eyes and body. Use the correct welding screen and filter lens and
wear protective clothing
Protect bystanders with suitable screens or curtains
FIRE HAZARD
Sparks (spatter) can cause fire. Make sure therefore that there are no
inflammable materials nearby
NOISE - Excessive noise can damage hearing
Protect your ears. Use earmuffs or other hearing protection.
Warn bystanders of the risk
MALFUNCTION - Call for expert assistance in the event of malfunction.
Read and understand the instruction manual before installing or operating.
PROTECT YOURSELF AND OTHERS!
CAUTION!
Class A equipment is not intended for use in residential
locations where the electrical power is provided by the
public low-voltage supply system. There may be
potential difficulties in ensuring electromagnetic
compatibility of class A equipment in those locations,
due to conducted as well as radiated disturbances.

Dispose of electronic equipment at the recycling
facility!
In observance of European Directive 2012/19/EC on
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment and its
implementation in accordance with national law,
electrical and/or electronic equipment that has reached
the end of its life must be disposed of at a recycling
facility.
As the person responsible for the equipment, it is your
responsibility to obtain information on approved
collection stations.

2 INTRODUCTION
PAB is a control unit that translates the communication between the ESAB LAF, TAF and
Aristo 1000 AC/DC power sources and automation control equipment, such as PLC. It
receives control signals and settings via Profibus or Profinet, it receives setup files through
FTP via Ethernet.
PAB is used together with ESAB's CANbus equipped power sources for welding automation,
i.e. LAF, TAF and Aristo 1000 AC/DC. For power source and wire feed unit handling, see the
relevant instruction manual.
2.1 Equipment
PAB is supplied with:
USB memory with configuration files
The internal cabling
Instruction manual
Profibus version:
Two D-sub adapters for mounting in the adapter plate
One RJ45 panel socket for mounting in the adapter plate
Profinet version:
RJ45 adapter plate
Block off plate
Two RJ45 cables

4 INSTALLATION
The installation must be carried out by a professional.
4.1 LAF/TAF
Installation and connection to the LAF/TAF power sources, kit 0449535881 and kit
0449535882
Make sure that the power source is disconected from mains.
If the powersource does not already have a hole in the connection plate for the adapter plate
then follow step 1A-1C below.
1A. Remove the sideplate, frontplate and the lower coverplate.

1B. Remove the lower side-support attachment and bend it to the side.

1C. Create a hole in the connection plate according to the correct illustration below.
For LAF 1001 only:

For TAF 801/TAF 1251 only:
2A (Profibus). Mount the adapter plate 0465531880 together with the two D-sub adapters
0465530001 and the RJ45 panel socket 0462018001 on the right side of the connection
plate.
2B (Profinet). Mount the adapter plate 0465531880 together with the RJ45 adapter
0465795001 in the middle, the block off plate 0802859201 on the left side, and the RJ45
panel socket 0462018001 on the right side of the connection plate.
Mount the PAB inside the LAF/TAF
Remove the cover from the screening box for the welding power source control board.
Fit the PAB to the welding power source control board as shown in the illustration
below.

3A (Profibus). Connect the CAN internal cabling 0458357885 to the control board, the RJ45
contact on the gateway board to the RJ45 panel socket on the adapter plate and the internal
cabling with D-sub splitter from the profibus board to the D-sub adapters on the adapter
plate.
3B (Profinet). Connect the CAN internal cabling 0458357885 to the control board, the RJ45
contact on the gateway board to the RJ45 panel socket on the right RJ45 connector on the
adapter plate. Connect the middle RJ45 connector on the adapter plate to the RJ45
connector on the small Profinet board that is mounted on the PAB.

4.2 Aristo 1000 AC/DC
Installation and connection to the Aristo 1000 power source, kit 0449 535 881 and kit
0449 535 882.
Make sure that the power source is disconnected from mains. The board behind the front
plate is powered even if the power source is turned off.
If the powersource does not already have a hole in the connection plate for the adapter plate
then follow step 1A-1F below.
1A. Remove the right cover plate.

1B. Remove the top cover.
1C. Remove the front cover. Make sure it is not hanging in the cabling.

1D. Remove the block terminal plate. Make sure it is not hanging in the cabling.
1E. Remove the cover plate that is covering the four holes.

2. Mount the gateway board in the Aristo 1000 power source according to the illustration
below.

3A (Profibus). Mount the adapter plate
0465531880 together with the two D-sub
adapters 0465530001 and the RJ45 panel
socket 0462018001 on the right side of the
connection plate.
3B (Profinet). Mount the adapter plate
0465531880 together with the RJ45 adapter
0465795001 in the middle, the block off
plate 0802859201 on the left side, and the
RJ45 panel socket 0462018001 on the right
side of the connection plate.
4A (Profibus). Connect the CAN internal cabling 0458357885 to the control board and the
ethernet internal cabling from the RJ45 contact on the gateway board to the RJ45 panel
socket on the adapter plate.
Connect the internal cabling with D-sub splitter from the profibus gateway board to the D-sub
adapters on the adapter plate.
4B (Profinet). Connect the CAN internal cabling 0458357885 to the control board, the RJ45
contact on the gateway board to the RJ45 panel socket on the right RJ45 connector on the
adapter plate.
Connect the middle RJ45 connector on theadapter plate to theRJ45 connector on the small
Profinet board that is mounted on the PAB.
