polarized extension cord will require
the use of a polarized wall outlet. This
plug will fitinto the polarized wall outlet
only one way. If plug does not fit fully
into the wall outlet, reverse the plug. If
it still does not fit, contact a qualified
electrician to install the proper wall
outlet. Do not change the equipment
plug, extension c ord receptacle, or ex-
tension cord plug in any way.
S To reduce the ri sk of elect rical shock,
use exten sion cords specificall y marked
as suit able for outdoor appliances. The
electr i cal rating of the cord must not be
less than the rating of the unit. The cord
must be marked with the suff i x “W - A” (i n
Canada, “W”). Make sure your exten-
sion cord is in good condition. Inspect
extension cord before use and replace if
damaged. An undersized extension
cordwillcauseadropinlinevoltagere-
sulti ng in loss of power and overheati ng.
If in doubt , use the next heavier gauge.
The smaller the gauge number , the
heavier the cord. (NOTE: The correct
size to be used depending on the cord
length is shown in this manual. See
SE-
LECT AN EXTENSION CORD
in the AS-
SEMBLY
section).
S Do not use mult ipl e cor ds.
S Keep the extensio n cord clear of oper a-
tor and obstacles at all times.
S Ti e cord to cord r etainer and connect to
recessed plug as shown in this manual
to prevent damage to unit and/or exten-
sion cord and to reduce the possibility of
the extension cord disconnecting from
the unit during operat i on.
S Do not attempt to repair unit. Inspect the
insulat i on and connectors on the unit
and extension cord before each use. If
there is any damage, do not use until
damage i s rep aired by your authorized
service dealer.
S Do not use the unit if the switch does not
turn the unit on and off properly . Have
the unit repair ed by your author i zed ser-
vice dealer.
S Avoid accidental starti ng. Be sure the
switch is in the
OFF positi on and keep
your hand and finger s away fr om the
switch while connecting the unit to the
power source or when carrying a unit
connected to the power source.
S Avoid any body contac t with any
grounded conductor, such as metal
fences, or pipes, to avoid the possibility
of electr i c shock.
S Ground Fault Circuit Inter r upt er (GFCI)
protect i on should be provided on the cir-
cuit or outl et to be used for this unit . Re-
ceptacles ar e avail able having built-in
GFCI protect i on and may be used for
this measure of safety.
S Stop the motor immedi at ely if you are
approached.
DOUBLE INSULATION
CONSTRUCTION
This unit is double insulated to help
protect against electric s hock . Double
insulation construction consists of two
separate “layers” of electrical insula-
tion instead of grounding.
Too ls and appliances built with a
double insulation sy stem are not in-
tended to be grounded. No grounding
means is provided on this unit, nor
should a means of grounding be add-
ed to this unit. As a result, the exten-
sion cord used with your unit can be
plugged into any s tandard 120 volt
electrical outlet. Safety precautions
must be obs erved when operating any
electrical tool. The double insulation
system only provides added protection
against injury resulting from an internal
electrical insulation failure.
WARNING:
All electrical repai r s to this unit, includi ng
housing, switch, motor, etc., must be diag-
nosed and repaired by qualified service
personnel. Replacement parts for a
double insulated appliance must be iden-
tical to the par ts they repl a ce . A double in-
sulated appliance is marked with the
words “double insulation” or “double insu-
lated” . The symbol
(square wit hi n a
square) may also be mar ked on the ap-
pliance. Failure to have the unit repair ed
by authori zed service personnel can
cause the double insulation constructi on
to become ineffecti ve and result in serious
injury.
UNIT/MAINTEN ANCE SAFETY
S Do not set the unit on any surface ex-
cept a clean, hard area whil e the unit is
running. Debris such as gravel, sand,
dust , grass, etc., could be pi cked up by
the air intake and thr ow n out through the
discharge opening, damaging the unit,
property, or causing serious injury to by-
standers or oper at or.
S Do not overr each or use from unstabl e
surfaces such as ladders, t rees, steep
slope s, rooftops, etc. Use extra care
when cleaning on stair w ay s. Keep firm
footing and bal ance at all tim es. Keep
hands out of t ubes.
S Inspect the enti re unit bef ore each use
for worn, loose, missing, or damaged
parts. Do not use until t he unit is in
proper wor ki ng order.
